LEGO Batwing & Batmobile | Review & Comparison

When the Batcave Shadowbox came out I was certain people would love to get their hands on the minifigure sized 1989 Batmobile that was included. Unfortunately you had to buy the entire shadowbox to do so. Fortunately, LEGO wasted no time selling it individually as well as the Batwing. But, is this an exact copy of the build from the Shadowbox?

The 89 Batwing is the better set out of the two I think. It looks so beautiful. The 89 Batmobile is cool too but the Batwing is better executed in its shaping.

For the price of the batmobile would've liked a couple of additional mini figures (Penguin/Catwoman/Alfred)or the gun feature more discreet than that dial

It would’ve been cool if the two sets included Penguin, Catwoman or even Billy Dee Williams Two-Face, since we know exactly what he was meant to look like for the third film.

Bought the batwing a couple weeks ago. It was a fairly interesting build, even if it was slightly repetitive.

Thanks for sharing Alex! The wing shape on the batwing is fantastic for the size of the set. I’m also loving that the cowl has white eyes, or lenses I suppose, rather than the ridiculous white band on the head for the sets we have😁 Just wish Batman had more foes than just the joker. That’s the combo in too many sets lately 🙁

Been looking forward to these, so will defo be picking up. Priority will be for the Batmobile as I want it to go with my other Batmobiles (tumblr and classic tv series). Do like that they’ve included that hook piece on the batwing so it can be wall mounted.

I think the chase Batmobile has better intakes and a cooler interior. But I'm not a fan of the cones on the rims. I think they're trying to represent the blender mechanism that comes out to destroy another vehicle's wheels, but aesthetically they don't look good. I think the Shadowbox Batmobile fins are the better of the two, though. Overall I prefer the chase Batmobile by a hair.

While the '89 Batmobile looks really cool I think it felt over engineered. Like there was way too much going on in the hidden areas you would never see rather than just simple brick stacking. But I do also like the new design of the stud shooters they put on the Batwing. They included those for the E-Wing as well. They look good when not loaded which is a big improvement over the old ones that looked incomplete without the stud loaded in it. I really liked the design for the grapple gun as well. Ordered some parts to make a few more for some of my other minifigs, including Chase McCain.

If only the shadow box Batmobile could split in 3 pieces like the movie when Batman drove in between 2 buildings. That would have made it more unique and most sought after to get.

I find it so strange that (both) version of the Batmobile use that 1x1 studded brich on top of the rear 'Batwings'. The whole shape is smooth, I would expect a 1x1 tile piece to be used there.
Not sure which side intake I prefer. The oval window panes look nice, but overlap with the 'gills' behind it. The rounded intake doesn't.
Weird to see the Batcave version doesn't have those wheel inserts that stick out. That's a pretty major detail.

The new Batmobile(s) look darker and better then the first one Lego made way back. A bit annoyed that they keep making them a single seater though.😤
Hopefully LEGO releases (another proper mini fig scale) Batski in the future.

I took the mask off hade him hold it and added. Black hair style for a mask less version.
