Something else rather ingenious with the release of Wind Waker HD on WiiU was the fact that a lot of what you mentioned with the Game Pad was ported over from the original game. The original game did allow for seeing maps and other stuff, but you were required to have a GBA hooked up to the GameCube via the GC link cable. Not everyone had that handy, and it even cut you off from some specific content that you could only access if you had those items handy. The WiiU's Game Pad pretty much completely removes such an arbitrary limitation, making it just a part of the game outright.

Speaking of The Wind Waker being slightly not perfect but still an excellent GameCube/Wii U game along with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2, the Bayonetta duology, Donkey Kong Country 5: Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi’s Mansion 1, Mario Kart 8 (except for more Peach clones than just Pink Gold Peach), Super Mario Maker 1, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Metroid Prime 1 & 2 (Metroid Prime 3 rocks, but it is a Wii game, and I’m only including the consoles that came before and after it chronologically, at least for now), Splatoon, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario Party 4-6 (7 is fun, but can also be frustrating at times), Ikaruga, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Pac-Man World 2, Starfox Assault, Super Mario Odyssey, Sonic Mega Collection, Mario Power Tennis, the Pikmin trilogy, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, F-Zero GX (also by Amusement Vision), Kirby Air Ride, Nintendo Puzzle Collection and etc...
Shane Luis could at some point do *The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube/Wii U) - Negatives - Rerez* and here are the predictions of what the usual/almost-always 4 negatives are gonna be in this video.
      1. Sluggish Sailing Segments (GC)
      2. The Tingle Bottle
      3. The Triforce Hunt (GC)
      4. It Was Criticized for Bullcrap Reasons (re: “They made the Zelda characters look too cartoonish! 🤮🤬😭” when that’s part of what made The Wind Waker amazing, especially the HD version which might get a Replace score when ExoParadigmGamer does a Remake or Rebreak on The Wind Waker)

The big, mainline Zelda games have seemed to settle on the anime character style. That's how it's been from TP to SS to BotW. If they keep making side games like the Link's Awakening remake, those will be where they experiment with other art styles.

I was one of those jerks that didn't buy it over the style back on the Gamecube. I have regretted that choice later in life. While I think the art style is a legitimate issue for some and Nintendo shouldn't have done the Space World promo reel to get peoples hopes up.......Wind Waker is a still a great game. Each Zelda game/adventure has their strengths and weaknesses, it is up to the game to find which titles is their favorite.

I've been playing through the Zelda series in release order, and it seems to me that Wind Waker is the title where Nintendo really embraced (or at least made obvious) the various games all being tied together. Throughout the game, there are numerous explicit references to Ocarina of Time, but I wonder if the 8 shards thing could have been a reference to the original Legend of Zelda, where your goal was to collect the 8 pieces of the Triforce.

And yes, I know that people love to hate Phantom Hourglass for being "too easy" when compared to other Legend of Zelda games. BUT, the game makes great use of the stylus, touchscreen, microphone, and there is even a puzzle that involves closing and re-opening the DS in the middle of the game.

This is on purpose. Exploration is even rewarded (not enough, maybe but it is). And before it becomes old, you get the ability to teleport... Walking takes a lot of time in Breath of the Wild... Shooting takes a lot of time in Call of Duty... Kicking the ball takes a lot of time in FIFA21...

I think the criticism against the NGC version are exaggerated, at the time those little rough spots didn't really phase me much. Today I guess smoothing out the creases is necessary and actually good, but there was something about the slower sailing and difficulty in times events, and checking my map, which were engrossing.
The only true flaw is the lack of content. I wish HD added the planned islands and such, but alas.

While far from my favorite Zelda, I did have this one on the Gamecube and played it and find it to be really quite enjoyable and it is great (and this Link is probably one of the more badass ones especially in regards to that final battle, same with Zelda too)
Have the Wii U version and the Gamepad makes it so much more enjoyable then the Gamecube version. That Nintendo Gallery in the original was too tedious, frustrating and awful, and in the Wii U version it's doable even fun! I’m so glad I gave it another shot when the special addition Wii U was available for a little extra cost than the regular one. I loved it after giving it a 2nd play, all those years later. It’s easily in my top 3 Zelda games

I remember seeing the proof of concept video for the game cube, and because of that when I had initially seen screenshots for wind Waker I admit I was ticked off.
Because it had looked like such a downgrade.
But, I also wasn’t picky. A new legend of Zelda game is still a new legend of Zelda game. So I got it on the game cube, and even though it’s slower in the sailing department then it would eventually become the sailing aspect was still my favorite part of the game even when it was slow it still felt like you were sailing across the great ocean.
And when I got a Wii U it was a special Zelda edition that came bundled with a digital download of wind Waker HD.

And it comes with a limited edition Gamepad. Black with Great Sea Hylian covering the edges and the symbol of the Hyrulean Royal Family underneath the NFC sensor. And all that's in gold! I only know because I'm holding one right now.

I was disappointed with the art style when I first saw it. Took five minutes on the demo disc to completely change my mind. The flaws the HD version fixes are great, but they were honestly flaws I never had a problem with.

The funny thing is Nintendo could easily do the map on the other screen again on the say the phone. Just have the Nintendo map connect and use a code that’s on the game and to the phone. So think of Breath of the wild connect to your phone and have the sheika slate sound effect as you look around

Rerez: It's the best Zelda game ever.
Me: But I don't like sailing.
Rerez: Oh, then it's the worst Zelda game ever then.

It's the basic Zelda cycle. Every time Nintendo does a drastic change to the series, it isn't until the next one comes out that the previous one is looked make on in a better light.
