  • This is a pretty basic video explaining how I replaced the main upper mount in my 2006 Scion tC. Included is the technique I used and the tools used. I am not a professional TH-camr, just thought I'd share some relevant info on this procedure.
    TOOLS:
    • Screwdrivers
    • Ratchet set
    • Pliers
    • Sockets: 17mm, 14mm, 10mm, 21mm (for lug nuts)
    • Ratchet extenders including at least 12-14"
    • Pipe or breaker bar
    • Siphon and bottle for power steering fluid removal
    • 10mm wrench
    • String to tie things out of the way
    • Jack and stands
    • Piece of wood to go under the oil pan when you jack up the engine
    • Brains and improvisational skills
    • 1-2ft of 5/8" hose in case you need to replace the hose for power steering bottle.
Overall procedure was not as straightforward as I imagined but an intermediate DIY mechanic can get this job done. I wish I had a ratcheting wrench with a longer neck for those brackets behind the mount!
BEWARE other videos telling you that you need to cut the power steering fluid return hose going to the reservoir bottle. Be prepared to replace the hose if need be but I was able to just route the bottle under the AC hose and over the engine and out of the way.
    Hope this helps you!

Why does the "old" motor mount look brand new? Mine is completely gone. I'll be replacing all 4 mounts though

Good point, the rubber was totally disconnected from the mount body on the inside

How did you prop it up from the bottom with the oil pan being there?

I put a piece of 2x4 on a small jack and jacked it up a couple of inches right on the oil pan. If you use the wood to distribute the pressure on the pan it will hold it fine. Good luck!

You made this job way harder than it needed to be. You didn’t have to take that power steering bracelet out. Just loosen the 10mm bolt from the bracket and the slide the motor mount out side ways.

    What we’re the barbs for?

Which barbs? The metal bits coming off the mount? They are needed for anchoring to the frame.
