    You can see Davis has a certain swagger, a young man in the prime of his game. That long red he purposefully left himself. A golden generation of snooker.

    This was a great 147, a double, a few break outs, a beautiful shot off the rest, and a nail biter or two, Steve was really the model of a Professional, the absolute best of his era.

    One of the most difficult endings of a 147 break, the last three balls took a lot of nerves.

    He won a Lada for getting a 147 break.
    For losing in the first round you got two Ladas.

    The red that he doubled, and the last pink sealed his name to be written in the history books. A magnificent break made by the legend.

    I like how genuinely excited for Steve the commentator David Taylor (also a player) is.

    • @paulofarrell6498
      @paulofarrell6498 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely - I love how pure emotion takes over his commentary towards the end when he’s just willing the shots to go in. You certainly couldn’t blame him for excitedly interrupting Pullman’s ponderous remarks when Steve was on the last ball!

    Steve Davis was as fine a Pro as they get, he did it all, 147, World, UK, Masters, etc, etc. O Sullivan modeled his whole persona and game off of Steve, see his bio.

    Sooooo coool
    3 things that are cool about this break in ascending order
    3) The ancient long stuff
    2) The double on 33
    1) His posture leaning against the table after the sparkles have flown

    Lovely played each & every shot, unbelievable 147.
    Steive Davis looking confident on his game grip.
    He is the school for the players reached 147 subsequently.

    Amazed that no one has mentioned the black to last red positional shot. When you are just so supremely confident that you purposefully leave yourself a long pot for your 15th red. Cliff Thorburn did the same on his 15th black to yellow position. Wonderful.

    The confidence of youth. He didn't even look nervous until the last 3 balls. He started to show a little bit of concern only from when his positional shot on the blue came up short.

    0:34 Keep an eye on the woman in the front row of the audience who is second in from the right. She doesn't once applaud during this break, and she doesn't give a standing ovation when the break is completed. At 12:04 she can be seen trying to get her (presumably) husband to sit down.

    If it wasn’t for Alex Higgins Snooker would not have been popular at all. The rivalry between Higgins and Davis ignited Snooker to its peak throughout the 1980’s. Hendry modelled his personality on Davis and his potting ability on Jimmy White. Ronnie is simply the best of all of them.

    The first televised 147 was also a very special one a superb double on the 5th red a great long pot on the 15th red and to dispatch that pink to hold for the black to complete the maximum was why they rightfully call him “The Nugget “

    At the most, he lost control of the cue ball twice. But nailed both shots with full confidence. It's like he knew he was going to make it. It wasn't until he went for the black it hit him regarding what he was going for. Davis was just a picture of concentration the entire frame.

    • @theradgegadgie6352
      @theradgegadgie6352 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends what you judge his prime by. He'd won the world title for the first time the year before, but got stuffed in the first round of it this year, before winning another five and being finalist twice before the end of the decade. He'd also just become world number 1 the year before and wouldn't relinquish that for another nine years.
