    Great to see something different to the usual white boxes Andrew. We need to be a bit more adventurous in this country if we want to attract younger people to caravanning.

      As a Dutchie looking in to camping in the UK summer 2023 I would say that the English campsites will have to adapt to different camping styles as well. We camp with a small teardrop and two pop-ups for the teenagers. Many campsites in England don't allow us on one pitch and if they do they ask enormous extra fees for the extra tents. What's up with that Britain?

    With these Kip caravans floor heating comes as standard. Also, in the Shelter Plus the porta potti can be placed in the locker on the right side

    Cute, love what they’ve done with the colours and those cool front/side/roof rails & black highlights. Older ones occasionally come up on eBay…

    Hi Andrew, I find compact c'vans intriguing and that washroom wall / worktop solution is so clever.
    But I know with my height, I'd forever be banging my head going in & coming out ... !

    I like those because they're different!! Get a bit bored with the same old, same old! It's the same with statics, they all have the same layout, just slight variations but basically the same! That's why I like the new concept stuff, something a bit different. Thanks for showing us these, I really liked them! Is that the same shirt or is it another one with different colours?! It looks lovely and fresh! I think people over here would like them for the same reasons I gave you. Modern, the convertible shower room was very good, the lovely one you showed us last week with the rising shower, now that was impressive!! The shape of these were different too, yes I think they'd be popular as long as the price is right of course! This series has been really enjoyable, not many more episodes which is a shame, never mind there's always next year plus the Nec next month!! Take care till the next time, love and hugs xxx

    Team Orange for the win! :) I did find a distributor online in the UK, but was put off by the lack of physical address on the website. The Kip website shows that the only official dealerships are in the Netherlands and Germany. Do you think these would do well in the UK?

    • @Alex-ek5fb
      @Alex-ek5fb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They might if they get a UK dealer. Without that, they are breaking one of your caravan buying rules, aren’t they?
      These caravans should be pretty easy to tow even for small cars and they are both more practical than teardrop caravans.

    Don't forget: the Shelter is more like a 'tent on wheels' than a proper caravan. Especially combined with the awesome 'Vario luifel' (awning) by Dutch tent-manufacturer De Waard. High quality, versatile, beautiful.. the best tent manufacturer in the world..
    (I am very biased as I still love my traditional De Waard tent + vario luifel, even though we are thinking about buyning a campervan...😁😉)

    The price for the kip kompakt starts at 27.500 Euro, but there are literally no extras inside. Floor heating - ok, but not really made for winter. The additional heating costs 1500 Euro extra. An additional table, that you really want costs 245 Euro. Even safety systems like ASK are optional. Then you add 1600 Euro to the list price for checking the gas system, get the 100 km/h, transfer. You finally end up at 35.000 Euro. That's just ridiculous! If you live in the UK anyway, get a Sprite Mondial 420 SE. Will cost you around 30.000 Euro and you get all the options you want, including an oven, Therme, Heating System, toilet, shower, etc. I tested both at the caravan salon. I was so excited for the kip, but at the end just disappointed.

    • @andrewjditton
      @andrewjditton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, I found the list of options to be very long!

    Dear Andrew, Absolutely in love with the colour scheme. And I have some experience with these pop-up tops, they are very convenient. Wonderful caravans to travel light and fast imo. "Kip" means "chicken" btw, after the first builder of this brand: 'Jan Kip" (roughly translates to 'John Chicken'). If I remember correctly he build is first caravan back in 1974. The brand sure has come a long way since then, hasn't it?

      Kip was the first to have the front of the caravan slope backwards like that to make it more dynamic and making it easier to pull. They did almost go bankrupt a few years ago, but made a very good come back with the models here in this video.

    We seriously considered a pop top caravan when looking for something to tow with our VW Camper. At the time we had a tin top and we loved the idea of something tiny and lightweight. We changed to our T6 pop top camper and came to the realisation that the lack of soundproofing and the challenges of staying warm in something with a pop top (we tour all year round in the UK) were more of a pain than we had expected. We’d been tent campers for years but the tin top really kept the noise out and was very snug. If there was an easy to fit insulation that kept out the cold and the noise I think we’d look at these again.

      Some Triganos have solid pop up sides. If you want to buy new look at the Trigano Trend 350. If you are looking to buy used Trigano SIlver 310 is the smallest 1.8m wide and 4.85m long (but toilet is a bit of a squeeze to get into). The 340 toilet is larger as the 340 caravan is 10cm longer and 20cm wider than the 310. They are very low profile (just under 2m) so probably only slightly higher than your T6

      Eriba Feeling, tour here: th-cam.com/video/c6W4yoUPqUA/w-d-xo.html inc pop top SCA camper style roof bed (king sized). This style of roof is a ~£4K option over the normal style pop top but very handy if you’d like a relatively small caravan but happen to have 2 hulking great big teen sons ;-)

    I really like these caravans, was disappointed to hear they don’t sell in the UK, I do like a pop top. But the price is steep. I don’t know why UK manufacturers don’t step outside of there comfort zone and surprise everyone with something different, the base camp is the closest UK made caravan to something different but I’m not a huge fan of those as it looks like a cube on wheels with shopping bags as cupboards! I do like the freedom microlites too but I think they are a teeny tiny bit too tiny.

    Yes, I can see that a lightweight caravan is good, but why do they always have a cooker, fridge freezer, but everyone can eat out, but the need for a toilet or shower is greater, or I am British too much?

    • @annehoog
      @annehoog ปีที่แล้ว

      Cooking is part of the camping experience and also makes your vacations more affordable. As for the toilet/bathroom I hardly know nay caravan owner that uses their bathroom except maybe the toilet when they are on the go or at night. Most use the campsite facilities and use the caravan bathroom just for storage.

    Be great for one man and his dog(s) but I think that a couple would get on each others nerves if they were stuck in there for a few days if the weather was bad.
    I would say that the colour scheme is post war, East German, communist green and black but it is quite attractive and a nice change from bog standard white.

      When you see these in the wild they will alway have a tent or at least an awning attached. It's a shame they didn't bring those to Düsseldorf because those tents and awnings are really beautiful.

    • @fryfrysk

      Yes, literally translated, but the company got its name from its founder Jan Kip back in 1934 ( so Kip is his sir name) building trailers. In 1947 he built his first caravan for own use.
      In 1949 Kip started to produce caravans of high quality, road stability and innovation.
      After economical difficult times they are since 2010 backed by private dutch capital venture and run by the people behind the Boedelbak , which means trailer ( an innovative company, founded by two MBA students who started to rent yellow trailers for few hours or days all over the country being available at any petrol station )
      My 1999 Kip caravan is still travelling with us all over Europe from the south coast of Portugal to beyond the Artic Circle in Finland and passed its recent MOT ( Bovag in dutch and TuV in German) with flying colours !
      So more of an investment then expenditure

      @cliveandroid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fryfrysk Thanks for clearing that up. 😊 Did you know? Boedel-bak means something like, "belongings-tub". (Just fooling around).🤭
