Sounds like you had a fantastic trip! Thanks for posting an update for us, I'm sure it will be much appreciated. It's such an upscale resort I'm glad to hear they took care of the wi-fi issue. I have to say we also enjoyed the nightly shows as well. Now I want to go back to Cancun, I love that place!
Thank you. You guys are going to have a great time. I'd say there was a fair amount of singles traveling in small to medium groups. Tipping is included everywhere in the hotel but we always tip - it just feels better. That being said we tip less than we do in the US. Remember to always use the safe in your room and enjoy your trip.
This was a VERY helpful video as I am about to make our reservations this week! I thank you for your great narrative about the property, you answered many questions for me. Two years ago I stayed further down the road in the hotel zone and I know I will miss the beach down there a little more, but I'm curious to try out this hotel.
Kendall today is my last day here and yes all rooms have a balcony with ocean view. The jacuzzis are in the room unless you get the room with it on the balcony. Also you can go to any riu hotel. Hope this helps
We just got back today (2/12/13) from being at the RIU for a week and thought it was a wonderful all inclusive! We had free wi-fi any place within the resort with decent reception. The nightly netertainment was great! We had live band every night, Elvis impersonator , fantastic magic show, beach party with fire dancers, circus show and mor.e. the service at the hotel was fantastic and far exceeded our expectations. We are already planning our next trip back :)
I'm having withdrawals and I'm barely back today. I had an amazing time at Riu Hotel Peninsula. We were told that it was the best All-inclusive. The food is fantastic. I would say a 5 star stay. It doesn't have a club, but at the end of the night you meet at the lobby and head to the bars and clubs. Congo Bongo is a must, but if that is too expensive LA Vacita is a great alternative. If you're going for a Bday make sure to let them know because they decorated the room.

On a serious note I have to be really careful in the sun so each time we take a trip to a sunny destination like Cancun we both get a spray tan and apply tons of sun block. We are always amazed at how many people get incredibly sunburned and it runes their trip.
Hi Kendall, I think all rooms do come with a balcony, jacuzzi and ocean view based on the way the hotel is laid out. The only exception I can think of is that they were building 4-6 small buildings to the north of the hotel behind the beach bar that were 2 stories or so tall. We were so happy at the hotel we did not venture out to their other properties but I think you can. Have fun! Let us know how your trip was.
There are two small beaches that you will be able to access and enjoy yourself - you can kind of see them in the video. We did not experience a bunch of stuff in the water however we have heard it depends on the weather and time of year. What did wash up on the beach they promptly cleaned up with a rake. I have to say this beach is no comparison to the amazing beach in the hotel zone. We took a quick bus ride and spent some time on the beach there and LOVED it...Enjoy your trip!
Love the hotel, first time in cancun and love the ocean view. The only thing that bothered us was that the hotel staff at the beginning of our stay did not mention that we had a free hour of snorkeling, sail boating etc, I wish they could've told us we found out 2 days before we left that we had that included in our stay at that hotel. the people are so nice, but get ready to tip them and make sure you have a lot of singles. The intertaintment was awesome Also for young people they always met at 11pm in the lobby to go out somewhere i guess a nightclub don't know exactly because i had my kids with me but that sounded awesome. My kids love it they have babysitting too i only used it for 2 hours and the kids were having to much fun that they didn't want to come back with us.
I think so...when you come back can you update us on that? It seems like I got the images on a disc. Great shots!!! Wish we would have taken a nice outfit specifically for photos.
Great footage! I was wondering what the location of the hotel is because on the Riu website map it shows that it is the same location as the Riu Cancun, which I stayed in a few years ago. However, I read somewhere that is right next to the Riu Caribe and from your video, I believe I saw it next door also. If you could clarify this for me, it'd be greatly appreciated!
Yep! Everything is included (photos, excursions, etc are extra) - the only thing we take cash for it tipping - it says tips are included but it feels better to leave a tip for the hard working employees. However if you leave a tip for the maid leave it at the end of your stay in an envelope with her name on it. Enjoy your trip wherever you go!
Yep they take US dollars. They will also exchange for you but you can get a better exchange rate at a bank if you really need cash. We usually take lots of small bills and it works perfectly.

I'm a beach bum and when I go to Mexico I like to pull a sun chair right down by the water to stay cool all day. Is the beach any good for that? The restaurants you showed, are they all through reservation or first come first serve? And like you said, the hotel says tipping is included, does that mean everywhere including these restaurants? I dont want to not tip and then feel like we were supposed to. Excited though cant wait!
Also, at Moon each room you got $1500 credit can apply to tours, massages, romantic dinner, room upgrade, memory picture taking, spa boutique, manicure, wine upgrade, the credit left over you can buy liquor to bring back to USA. I doubt you have any credit left ;( Too much fun there.
me and my wife with 5 years old kid just back from cancun,very enjoy and relax.but must stay in riu palace pennysula (5 star hotel) eat free at 12 restaurant and all free cocktails and wine.
It is not included you have to arrange it. Several options are avaiable from a private car service to bus service. We generally purchase our round trip hotel transfer when we book our trip but you can easily do it afterwords.
Is the transportation from the hotel free. Is it already set up so when you get off the plane a bus is waiting to take you to the hotel or do you have to arrange a ride yourself?

If you can get a good deal....it's super nice, love the in room jacuzzi. Cancun is hard to beat. We usually book through Bookit Travelzoo or cheapcaribbean - we just got back from Cancun and stayed at Secrets the Vine....do not recommend this hotel. All inclusives are great if you have kids! Cancun is hard to beat. Sorry no specific recommendations, it's been a while since we've traveled with kids. Enjoy your trip wherever you stay.
For someone to give a review of a place, you would hope they know the correct name. It is the Riu Palace Peninsula, NOT the Riu Palace on the Peninsula.
I just got back from Moon Palace, Cancun and I think Moon is better, it has more space, better food (14 restaurants), FREE internet not like limit to 90min at Riu, free daycare for children, teen age lounge w/all electronics games. Moon is near the airport so it doesn't have the busy of a downtown and suffocate by all resort surrounding. You will not see the wave from the beach because it has a corral reef so it stop the wave coming from the ocean. That's all I missed.
I am going with some friends and we are all in our late 20's. We are thinking of staying riu cancun or riu las Americas. We don't want a cheap hotel but we want a hotel that will be lots of fun for our age group. Any recommendations?
Sorry I don't have a specific hotel I can think of for a 20 something crowd. As you know Cancun has a lot to choose from. We just got back and stayed in a vacation rental by owner this time. My only suggestion would be to read the reviews to get a feel of the hotel, food, beach location and clientele, we use trip advisor most of the time. Have fun wherever you stay!!! Oh and make sure you take a hat, sunblock, a sunglass leash and a coverup - sunburns are brutal and it's easy to loose your glasses if you go into the ocean.
if you want to have fun, this could be it. the room have many bottles hook on the wall ready for 24/7 fun. The food always available with nice varieties to choose from. over all pretty good i think.
riu cancun is probably the best option the palaces are more expensive and riu cancun was just renovated so it's probably even better! if you really want to go all out then go to one of the palaces! They have 24 hr room service as well!

i went to moon palace ressort last april in 2012, and i miss it very much trying to get my parents to go again XD
I would advise paying for Internet as it is much faster and beach is very good can move loungers to wherever you want great hotel !

If you want the long beach type thing you have to stay on Hotel Row. This is more secluded and back toward Cancun City.
