Don’t join the NJDOC, literally one of the worst careers ever. They honestly do NOT pay you enough for what you do, the inmates in the prisons eat better than you, the schedule is terrible, and the turnover rate is ridiculously high (no surprise there). I’m so glad I only did this job for 4 months and left to a software engineer position making 4 times the pay.
Seriously guys, the 3 months you’ll be in the academy is the same 3 months you can learn Python in a coding bootcamp and earn serious money rather than checking inmates’ rectum and working weekends. Work smarter not harder…

I would not encourage my children to work corrections. I did it for several years and it's a suck job. Society puts prisoners away to forget about them. Staff are included. The standards are low and the conditions are crap. Inmates never bothered me. Fellow guards slept with inmates, snuck them in contraband, and helped them escape. Police officers hated us because so many of us get arrested. They wrote us parking tickets while we worked. Why are those speaking wearing guns? Jail guards aren't armed on-duty. The host of Tier Talk on TH-cam is a boob.

In New Jersey they are now considered Correctional Police Officers and have pretty much the same power as an officer on the streets, just can't write tickets.

@@hectormunoz7966 Anyone looking for power needs self-introspection. CO's don't enforce laws. They enforce institutional rules. They don't present cases to courts, participate in Grand Jury investigations, or apply for warrants. They work tiers with low-life people. Accepting applications from 18-yr olds indicates desperation. I respect all the men and women serving but as a CO veteran, I don't recommend this shit job. Cops hated us so much; they wrote us parking tickets while we worked. They told our union to go to hell. That's because of the conduct we displayed.
