I place all the liquids that I will want on the plane (lotion, lip balm, moisturizer) in a snack size baggie within my regular liquid bag. Then it is easy to grab and keep handy for the plane. (for those rule followers!)

Because the plane is so dark on overnight and some other long haul flights, I started carrying a small mini LED keychain squeezable flashlight. It is strong enough to illuminate what I need to see without disturbing other passengers. I bought a multi-pack from Amazon for under $10 and have one attached to car keys and other places for using at home, too. Good video!

My sister and I recently flew Emirates premium economy. We were only allowed 1 item on the plane: 1 carry-on suitcase. Since this would be stowed in the overhead, we had to create a small inflight essentials bag that we could grab before stowing our carry-ons. My sister used a crossbody bag and I used small crossbody sling backpack. Both were around the same size of your fanny bag. This forced us to really bring what we absolutely needed on the plane. It was liberating. Kudo's on the name "cabin bag" which clearly distinguishes it from a personal item which is usually larger.

I use a hanging toiletry bag for my inflight bag. I can hang it on the seat in front of me and have easy access to everything.

Another tip for Rx meds: Tell the pharmacy that you will be traveling and would like a smaller bottle with a locking lid for your meds. They will put a duplicate label on that bottle. I love to cruise and I take a 2 week supply for a 1 week cruise so the smaller bottle(s) works out perfectly.

This, for some reason, brought to my mind my first flight and trip to NYC my senior year to attend the Restaurant Show (I'm 58, yes, it is now in Chicago) for my college major with my college buddies. The one who had flown before and was giving us tips got sick multiple times on the flight. The one who always misplaces things insisted she did not need me to hold onto her return flight ticket. I made her sign a note stating I offered and she refused and had witnesses. Of course, she lost her ticket and had to pay a $100 lost ticket fee.
It was a fantastic trip and my lost ticket friend always gave me important items to hold onto after that. 😅😂😅😎

Just want to say I’ve watched a lot of travel videos and your cabin bag worn around the waist during flight is a new and brilliant idea for me! I get a bit claustrophobic and airsick when I have to put my head down to rummage through my personal item in the dark, and having a loose pouch that falls on the floor doesn’t work either. I just received the small bag you showed and I think it will be perfect. Thanks for the help in making long flights semi bearable.

Thank you. This was by far the most helpful video on using a “cabin bag.” You mention products that were not in other videos. Love the contact lens case idea.
Mere FYI. You might put the lightly scented cream in the other contact lens holder and use another contact case for meds. Liquids in one. Meds in another - for us “rule followers.”
I’ve watched several videos on preparing to travel after a long lock down. I remember rifling through my personal bag for items. Now I get why using a cabin bag is helpful. Thanks to your video I’m going to create one.

Eye drops, lip balm, moisturiser, paracetamol, breath mints, travel toothbrush, eye mask, water wipes and anti bac gel.

When I flew to Australia, it's a super long flight, so I took my contacts after boarding off intending to sleep most of the long flight. (I didn't, but that's another story.) According to my plan, I was just going to wear my glasses when I got off the plane for the rest of the day. But they have this automatic passport process, where they just do facial recognition or whatever and electronically scan passports, no humans involved. And in order to do this, you can't wear your glasses. And then there's this screen like 10-15 feet away telling you that you are approved. But I'm traveling by myself, and I can't see, so the first time I failed because I put my glasses back on too soon. So the second time I was determined to wait long enough to get approved but I waited so long that the stranger behind me waiting had to tell me to go. I don't understand why, if they know people have to take off their glasses, they don't have like a big red/green light above the gate.

Love and watch all your videos always great tips - I am getting ready to take our first ever long international flight and have a couple of questions. One - do you use, if checking luggage, any type of lock on you suitcase? Two - have you ever sat in one of the seats that have no seat in front of it, do they have some place similar to a back of the seat pouch and have monitors somewhere like most back of the seats have? We splurged for the leg room but now I'm wondering how that works with no seat in front of us. Anything else I should be prepared for that type of seating. Three - do they allow you to bring small flashlights onboard? Any thoughts? Thank you

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge

My STRONG suggestion is head over to seatguru.com and look at the particular seats your thinking about on that aircraft. Every plane is a little different so this is super important! And yes, they will have monitors in the arm sets typically but again depends on the aircraft. Good luck and happy travels!

We bikepack and I use contact lens cases for triple antibiotic ointment & desitin. I would probably add a pen too. Now, I've not traveled internationally in quite a while, but I remember having to fill out customs forms on the plane; maybe they do not do that anymore. But, I ALWAYS find a reason I need a pen. I think I'd also include a small, passport-size traveler's notebook insert just to have some paper. Things come up over the course of 9 hours (or so), especially if you are thinking about touring a place you've never been. I don't use my phone for temporary notes; not sure why....

Great video! Very informative. I pack my personal item pretty much the same way. I do wonder, though. Does Delta allow you to wear the bag around your waist and bring a carry-on and a personal item or do you pack the waist pouch in your personal item to take it onboard the plane? I consulted with an Audiologist recently she said try one or both of these ideas - 2 hours before takeoff use Afrin spray twice each nostril - or 2 weeks before trip use Flonase spray daily, again twice each nostril. I will let you know if it works or not. I sure hope so, my ears sometimes don't unclog for over a week. It can make things difficult.

@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge I used to have a coworker that would come to the office from the airport when he traveled. It was only a 50 minute flight and he literally smelled like skunk, dead skunk. Other coworkers used to call me and tell me how bad they felt for me because I had to share an office with him and his BO. Just saying…if you get hot in a plane or in airports (cause sometime they offer very short layovers and you have to sprint across airports), take into consideration any bodily issues and smells that may happen.

I think it would be very uncomfortable to sit with that around your waist for an overnight international flight? my plan is to have a 'separate' plastic bag with flight essentials (inflatable pillow, eyemask, folding blanket, water bottle, glasses, electronics, facial mist, hand lotion - and I have those tiny sample packets you get with makeup orders - one use and discard and take up no space at all in your liquids baggie) which I would remove from my 'personal item' tote bag
before stowing it under the seat and putting it in the seat pocket in front of me - within easy reach and 'contained'.... I hope to put my purse 'inside' the personal item under the seat for the flight (and would only take it out to go to the washroom as needed)
