The effort and time you must put into creating this video blows my mind, Nigel. It’s hard enough waking up for a sunrise and hiking to a location as it is, let alone doing it twice with video gear! Love the “walk off into the distance and pretend I haven’t got a camera” 😂
Great motivator for getting up early AND sticking around when it looks like the light will be crumby. And you constant positive attitude is a motivator to keep assuming the light will improve and/or the photographer will find a way to get some good shots in good or "bad" weather.
Wow ! For me it`s your best video ever since ! The drone views, the music, the light... so stunnin' perfect. I love to be out before sunrise. Four or five in the morning when you feel the new day is just starting now.... this is by far the most peaceful time of the day. And you just nailed it! What an inspiration !
It’s really crazy that a video like this would get a thumbs down. What’s not to like. Great story line, brilliant explanation of what’s happening and how the shots are achieved, and amazing images. It’s great to see you back in the mountains and thanks for a great video. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
great photos but tooo much drone, sowy. unless this is a drone platform of course. big difference between stills. he also chats too much about the same thing, like a prima donna; can get boring; and the corny music. really? said with good intentions.
@@cwkronenberg9838 Hi CW. I don’t necessarily agree with your comments but think it’s great that you are prepared to make them. Much better than just giving a thumbs down. We can’t all like the same things and it’s great to hear other perspectives. Cheers👍
You've really upped your production game. Really enjoyed the drone, photo, vlog mash-up. Great music too. I don't know how long you spend on the edit, but I can say the result is outstanding.
Not only your pictures but also you videos on their own are pieces of art! Love how you combine drone footage with parts shot on your camera and how it all melts together into the story and message you want to bring! great work Nigel!
I've recently started get up at 4am for sunrise shots, and its lovely! My now favourite time of day. So tranquil, peaceful, and i find my flow and thought process for composition, etc. is much better first thing in the morning. Plus the colours are a lot more lighter, different and easier to deal with than a sunset. If you're lucky as well, you get that nice misty due coming from the grasses or near by waters.
We humans are so tiny, your video highlights this. You are doing such an important job really to bring this landscape into the homes of people who just aren't able to get there. Magic and once again always learn a lot from your videos.
Thanks for sharing video for demonstrating an enthusiastic heart, determined mind and experimental attitude for landscape photography. Light could change unpredictably on the top of mountain and sometimes it was to be disappointed. So encouraging that seeing Nigel constantly seeking potential spot regardless of no chance for sunrise. Mountain peaks at 8:31 intersected by rocks and streamline was so beautiful.
Love how open the landscape is allowing you to be limited only by your creativity in your choice of a composition, not so much by the trees blocking every other direction, as is the case mostly here with our thick and impenetrable boreal forests.
I woke up at 5am in Strasbourg just to get the sunrise, as well as the beautiful deserted streets and shimmering canal bathed in that orange-lemon early morning sunlight.
Inspirational, Nigel. Thank you! Your videos are so natural, showing the great input you put in to bring us these lovely scenes. This video, I definitely felt like I was there. That takes something special, to capture the ‘essence’ of the picture. Good to see what goes on, behind the actual photography, and your videos bring this to life. So good!
I agree with you, mariebird01. I feel like I took that hike with you, Nigel. Your drone work and editing are exceptional. You also truly captured a bit of the mad rushing about that happens, racing the light to extract all the possible compositions within running distance. The more amazing because you are creating a video of the process simultaneously. Bravo!
The first peak is Blea Crag, a subsidiary of High Spy close to Narrow Moor (the border between High Spy and neighbouring fell Maiden Moor). The rocky outcrop overlooks the upper Newlands Valley (summit cairn of High Spy in background). At 17:31 the fells in the background are Great Gable (furthest away) and Dale Head. The little tarn is Dale Head Tarn. Very nice pics, Nigel.
The amount of effort you have put in to created that wonderful video is mesmerizing. Hiking in the dark, managing shot angles, planning drone footage and story telling while chasing the perfect shot is quite an accomplishment.
Amazing content, which must include a lot of back and forwards to set up the various scenes ....no idea how you actually get the audio to sync and sound good from such distances.....inspirational Nigel!
What a location!! Man, I wish I had locations like that near me. I totally get the feeling of being on a mountaintop at dawn - it’s super special, and makes you so glad to be alive. Awesome drone footage, too!
Great video again, Nigel! I think anyone who goes out making photos, recognizes - just like you - the unpredictable aspects, like what to expect and what the light & weather are doing. And also thinking hard of changing location or not, different angles and viewpoints, lenses, etc. Although not living in England, it's great to see the Keswick area again. My wife and I have once walked around the lake in freezing wintertime, and also hillwalked on the other side of Keswick. In one of the first of your videos that I ever watched, I directly recognized the Mam Tor Hills in the Peak District, that we've also visited more recently.
Quite apart from the wonderful photography Nigel, watching your videos is like watching a high end tv channel; the production values are amazing. Kudos! 🙌🏻
Super video, Nigel; indeed it is a real struggle to get up in the morning. 'Overwhelming apathy' sometimes wins out; but at other times, ..... Hopefully,, you will get some workshops planned for 2021 and 2022 in UK (Scotland?); I would love the spend a few days shooting images with you and to learn f2f. Many thanks, great work, Eamonn
Thank you, Nigel. I can’t imaging all of the technical difficulties and planning that you might have to endure to produce these fabulous videos. I have learned a lot from you through TH-cam over the years. Beautiful photos and you made me LOL when you forgot to turn on the video while climbing the hill for the 3rd time. I’m putting in an order for Woodlands today in support of all of your efforts. I look forward to the next one! Linda Jo from Dallas, Texas.
Your videos always hit the spot over Sunday morning coffee, but today you raised the bar higher with the drone work. To do what you did in this video, in the US, you would need a good list of waivers and authorizations to pull it off, such as before official sunrise, maybe in a National Park, and perhaps BVLOS. Fantastique !! Cheers and thanks for all the good work.
Hi from Australia. Wow Nigel, another epic video and gorgeous location. Just received my copy of your book Woodlands. What a beautiful book, superb photos and fantastic quality printing. Your decision to include the names of all the people who pre-purchased (including me) was a lovely and thoughtful thing to do. Your photography style is inspiring and I particularly like the natural look, versus the over-processed look you frequently see in landscape photos. As you say “It doesn’t get better than this!”
After hearing you, I'm hanging my hip replacement pity party bag back on the hook! Not a morning person but your sunrise videos are great. Will have to give it a try. Thanks!
Your best production yet. First video I've watched where I wished I could give more than one thumbs up! Plus what everyone below has said. 😊 Thanks for the trouble you went to and cheers from DownUnder.
Great video again Nigel. I’ve been a full time professional landscape photographer for 12yrs now. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one crazy enough to get up that early... I love watching your videos as it inspires me on a Sunday evening for the week ahead and the pictures I might capture.....
thankyou for these videos nigel. im a learning hobby photographer and this is the style that i want to get into. between you, james popsys and its johnny keeley, you all produce some amazing stuff. thankyou for helping me learn and get inspiration with my photography.

@@paulcollingridge8387 trust me. I'd love to try... I'd like the security of a friend there if something was to happen. I try and not let it slow me, but the fare does. Can't lie
I could watch your videos all day, you really do them so well. Do you talk much anywhere in particular about your focus stacking and exposure, especially when shooting into the sun?
Great video. You're up in the fells capturing amazing pictures before most people have had their first coffee! I really liked the notes on your pictures this week, especially the short note on using your preset and how you changed it.
Weaking up early in the morning is tiring, but it's also really rewarding when it's your passion to push yourself for staying in nature. Thanks for sharing your days.
Nothing like Sunday morning service with Nigel - my morning inspiration. Thank you for giving your time, energy, photography and video expertise. Do you do all the filming yourself? It must take so much time setting up the camera, walking down the hill to only walk up it. Is that what you really do? So curious. Comment: Talking about your composition setup is very helpful. Appreciate this component of your videos.
It doesn’t get any better....... watching an expert photographer execute a pre-planned, sequenced and totally controlled event - chasing the light ☺️👍😉👏.
As always a great video from Mr. Danson. I am impressed with the effort you put in these videos and your sharing of compositions and ideas. Great work! Love those wide angle shots with the rocks..!
Thanks once again, Nigel. Isn't it a privilege to be able to witness such splendor and be given unexpected moments?? Very inspirational. Getting our of bed early on the weekend :)
Love a sunrise shoot, hard though it is at the moment. The peace and quiet an offer most times just about makes it more preferable than sunset in my book. Even if sometimes the conditions aren’t quite right...
Mountains are a really special place for landscape photography. I love being in the mountains and photographing them but unfortunately that is the one thing I don't have close to home. Luckely though I'm going on an adventure to the mountains of Northern Dalarna here in Sweden by the end of this month. This video got me really excited!
You sir, are a fine artist and I say that rarely. The effort you put into this is incredible. I do not know where you are on our planet but it is a wonder. Thank you so much for this inspired video.
I had to suscribe after watching this video. Such superb editing while trying to find compositions with tricky light on the top of Mountain! Well done friend.
Great morning video! As much as I appreciate your photography & tips/knowledge, I really like the way you integrate the drone into your storytelling. Many vloggers use a drone, but it usually seems like a sidecar, not integrated. Congrats.
The whole presentation of the video is top notch, but what took me by surprise in this one and in your latest ones is the choice of music. I always have my shazam ready to check out each individual track!
Thanks for this great video. I use it to warn people when they want to come out and shoot with me. LOL Great shots too! Loved the one with the sun on the rocks, shadow of the mountain, and the stream. Beautiful!
Got up at 4am to go out and shoot this morning. Came back to a nap and woke up to find this video in my feed. I see you TH-cam. Great video as always. :)

All that drone work made this feel like a little documentary/film. And that circling shot with the audio commentary at 5:20 was pretty cool.
