Before the song is released there are a couple things I'd like to share. This song took me a lot of courage to write because I was always apprehensive of the subject it talked about. I've been doing this job for a long time and right now I speak not as Amber of f(x) nor "celebrity" Amber, but just Amber. Just plain, simple, human Amber. "Borders" is more than a song; no glamorous concepts, no "trying to be cool." Its a raw and real story about reality. Its shares, not only about my personal experiences but of people very close to me. Everyone involved in this project- the producers, my team DPR, the actors, to the staff- were people specifically chosen as they have never given up on me and believed in my vision. For that, I want to thank them for making this possible for me. When you guys listen to "Borders", there is just one thing i wish everyone could take from it: NEVER give up on yourself. There is always hope in the midst of this dark, demanding world. In the end, live for those that did not get the chance to and just keep fighting. Always, thank you you guys. You guys made it possible.
노래 나오기전에 여러분한테 몇까지 말하고 싶습니다. 이 노래를 쓸때 많은 용기를 냈어요 왜냐하면 이 주제가 사람들한테 말하고 오픈 하는 자체가 많은 겁을 갖고 있었어요. 제가 연예 활동 한지 오래됐지만 지금 저는 에프엑스의 엠버, 연예인 엠버로서 말하고 있지않습니다. 지금 그냥 엠버. 인간 엠버입니다. 보더스"는 그냥 노래가 아닙니다. 콘셉 짜서 멋있게 만들으려고 하는것도 없어요. 그냥 진심, 솔직함 담은 현실 이야기입니다. 제 이야기과 제 친한테 사름들의 이야기. 이 프로젝트 만들면서 작곡 같이 하는 친구들부터, 제 제작팀 DPR, 연기자들, 스탭분들까지 제가 직접 골랐습니다. 그 이유는 제 옆에 있으면서 포기 절대 하지 않았고 제가 갖고 있는 환상을 믿어주는 분들이기때문에. 그친구들한테 감사하다는 말을 다시 하고 싶습니다. My inspiration in SM is Taeyeon. Prior to her debut, Taeyeon almost didn't debut. As we all know SM's trainee program is intense and could be harsh on trainees. Tiffany at the time was Taeyeon's roomate and she recalls going home finding Taeyeon and all of her stuff gone. They said she went home and almost gave up but she came back and eventually debuted. SM's training is completely natural in my opinion. Those obstacles and harsh training makes the artist stronger around excessive judgments of stupid people in the Internet. Also when Taeyeon was a child, she was discovered by an SM vocal trainee and started training for SM. Her father didn't want her to be a singer so he even asked SM to stop training Taeyeon. Also because it was tiring for the child since they lived in a small province and they had to travel to Seoul for the training. However since Taeyeon was very passionate and loves to sing, her father traveled with her to Seoul every weekend for hours until she is finished.
My mom is a counselor, and she shows this song to her clients sometimes. She has one client who listens to this song everyday to help her get through her struggles (at least she used to. My mom says she hasn't seen the client in a while). I think it's amazing how much this song really helps people. I hope Amber knows how much her music means to people. I even recommended this song to my Geometry teacher when she was getting bullied by the kids at my school (long story). Idk if she listened to it, but I hope she did. Amber is so inspiring, talented, kind, and beautiful. I hope Amber always knows this.

Amber Liu. The first time I ever saw you, it was through my older sister who was, and still is, absolutely obsessed with FX. I have been a K-Pop fan for about a decade now, but at this time, at least 5 years ago, I wasn’t acquainted with many groups. I saw the absolute glow in my sister’s eyes as she showed me endless FX music videos and talked about each member with such love and inspiration woven into each of her words. I got sick just before KCON NY and LA so I was sad when I heard AMBER was going to be there and I would miss her.
I missed watching thinking I was too old to justify buying a ticket... Which I will always regret. Amazingly I got to meet her just after she got done shooting video footage in front of the Staples Center. She is so friendly, sweet and beautiful in person. She took selfies and singled autographs. Glad I had s chance to tell her how much I appreciate her being a role model!!!

this song helped me come out to my parents that i am lesbian♥ it hit hurt because all these lyrics are all the feelings that i felt before telling them, i always felt pressured and different. i didnt know how to feel about anything before i came out. I've forgotten about this song and now, when I'm having a really hard time it popped out in my head and I'm glad it did. I'm trying to get out of depression, I've just started working, and as a really young person it is hard for me, I'm exhausted and my mental illness doesn't help, but this songs helps me a lot. Even after one listening of it, I feel like I'm getting stronger and closer to who I want to become - I'd never give up on my journey and face the hard moments in my life with my head up, so that I can make my dreams come true and make my life better. I hope you all will do the same - please don't give up and try your best, the way to happiness might be hard, but there's always a solution to every problem and at the end, it will all be okay. 💕

This song means a lot to me because just like the actors in this I had the same struggles (what they acted) and I realized I'm perfect in my own way and I'm crossing their borders to be my beautiful not theirs. I have to constantly fight my way to get to be where I can feel beautiful...I fight hateful people and depression everyday just to smile but when I smile I know its worth it on the end because all of my friends, family, teachers, ect..they all love to see me smile and not cry...

I'm from Colombia and my native language is Spanish. My culture and lifestyle are completely different, but even though this fact I can relate with this song so deeply.
