Hi Pete, Andrei here - provincial level player from NZ. At least I was before my senility set in. In my opinion 2NT is a fine contract. Surely 2NT is ok in this situaion. Is it really much different from a freely bid 3 of a major? This is the inevitable price of trying for game. My experience of 2NT over the last 10,000 years is that by and large you make the level you bid up to. Sometimes you make three, sometimes you are down one, but mostly you make your 2NT. And the downside of down one is that you weigh that against the chances of making game. I play Symmetric where a 2C and 2D opening with a 2NT is an invite to 3NT. Now you always have a SIX card minor. Still my experience is you just pass with a minimum.

I did state that passing 2NT is the better option in that situation.
