Nathaniel riesterer the x11 will handle steelhead no problem and salmon depending on rating. Only draw back was tip breakage and cork handles came loose. So i retired that rod. My opinion for a $100 or less rod i like is the north river from fishermans. Havent had no problems with them and if you do, take it back and have it replaced.
So dumb question cause I never river fished before but can I just pull off on any side of the road next to the river and just hop down and fish?
