    Beautiful! I was trying to figure out why my speedo was running up to 25 MPH when I tried to start my truck but the engine wouldn't turn over. After diving into starters and speedos, I wondered if maybe the strong EM field from the locked-rotor starter was tricking the speed sensor. This physical demonstration really helps me imagine exactly what's happening. Thanks!

    Doesn't this mean that different size wheels produce different speedo readings for the same speed?

      Assuming the difference in size isn't offset by narrower tires, yes. If it's a different overall diameter, the speedo needs to be adjusted or it will be inaccurate.

      Yes, the bigger the tyre the faster your Speedo will read compared to the actual speed your travelling. You can set tyre sizes in some computers, some vehicles will throw codes for abs, traction control etc if you don't as the wheel speed sensor will be going a different speed then it is supposed to.
