Part of magic is emotion, when the wand split, whoever feels more at the moment is in control
It's because from what I'm seeing ludo was in control of the wand when using his piece but star took control
The wands are connected yet also cleaved, alluding to the fact that they're originally one wand. Another thing is that the wands bond to their user and the magic responds to the wielders deep emotions. Although they're in separate dimensions, its basically Star and Ludo holding the same spoon and wrestling for control over their food.
This is an allusion to Glossaryks example of Star's wand being a spoon or skewer and the magic is a bubbling stew. To the Butterfly family, the wand is their primary connection to magic as a child's training wheel for a bike. Once they have learned enough, every butterfly can dip down and use magic without the wand. It's just funny to me that once toffee sapped the magic, dipping down is useless (Seen with moon being too drained to light a fire) without the wands use.
@@Aiolet Yeah, it would seem as if toffee managed to corrupt the whole magic dimension without destroying it (then Star restored it when she dipped down inside of it while holding first born)

Because stars magic was being converted to ludo's magic because he was the vessel of toffee the one converting the magic
She had to take control of the wand. Ludo had control because he needed it out in the wild
Look at the star on the wand... there is an error of it swapping on the other side when it turns pink
