Such a great video with a wealth of information for those considering adopting from foster care! I especially liked how you talked about the child regretting being adopted and how you reframed that, getting to the core root of the true feelings behind that regret.
I really appreciated this video! I found your channel in April 2022 when I felt called to adopt from foster care. Our family had a very unexpected journey from what we had originally planned when we began the process, but we just adopted our son in November! Every time I see one of your videos pop up it almost feels surreal that what feels like a minute ago we were searching TH-cam videos about adoption and dreaming about it and now it’s real! Thank you for your channel and all the people you help without realizing it!
I live in Ohio, and my husband and I had really hoped to adopt a waiting child from foster care. We have had our licence for a year and a half. In that time we have learned from our agency that adopting a waiting child is very very rare, unless you are look at a teenager( our range is 3-8 years). After waiting so long, we ended up opening our home up to emergency placements. We now have a little boy placed with us, but feel like adopting may not actually be in the cards for us, as so many children do go back even after years in care or returning to care and adoptive placements are so rare. We will foster at least for the time as we feel called to love on kidos who need a family in a hard season in life, but I am slowly loosing hope that it is very doable to adopt, at least unless you stick it out for years and years, until eventually a child is placed with you that doesn't go back.
@@jessicaolson717 wow that was not our experience at all in Ohio! I know things tend to ebb and flow. Your age range is more limited than some, so it does sometimes take longer. Does your agency do out of state matches as well?
This has also been my experience in Los Angeles and my husband and I are losing hope. We have been licensed for a year and zero placent except for older teens. We are looking to adopting from foster care/ waiting child.
@@adoptinformed They do not work outside of Ohio, which is to bad as we live outside of Toledo so we are quite close to Michigan and Indiana. When I found your channel I got so excited at the idea of being able to adopt without all the worry of heartbreak over a child going back to a dangerous situation, and we were not looking to go back to the baby years with an infant adoption, as our biological daughter is 8. But talking with our agency and other foster families that we know who go through the county, they have all said that adopting a waiting child from foster care is just not really a thing that happens. As one case workers said, for lack of better words, if we want to adopt we just have to go through the wringer of foster care.... Anyways we shall see what God has planned for us.
This might be a silly question but I’ve been watching your videos and was wondering when you are preparing for the home study, are the social workers expecting you to have a room set up already for your prospective child (unmatched)? Is it acceptable to have the room set up after you are matched and obviously before your child moves in when matched?
@@adoptinformed wonderful!!!! I look forward to seeing it! Thank you so much for your expertise and guidance! I am I the very beginning stages of this process and your videos have been so helpful and insightful. Thank you so very much for making these!

We are doing our first weekend visit with the 12-year-old boy that we are adopting from foster care and I’m so excited and also terrified lol.

I’ve been watching you since before they matched me. 2 years later and we’re almost done. Waiting for the court date to seal the deal. 😊
