    Hey Eric, just wanted to give you a huge "thank you" for putting together your videos on your tripod decision making process. Very insightful and helpful analysis! I just reached out to Tony at PMG and gave you props for singlehandedly making me aware of them - I knew them for their gimbals, but never looked closely enough to notice their tripods. Close to pulling the trigger, just need to decide which is best for me. Thanks again!

    Hey Eric, one additional question for you if you have the time: Now that you've had both the 34 and 42 series for a bit, has your use of the 424L changed your perspective on the vibration-reduction capabilities of the 344L? I know your initial impressions were great, esp. compared to the Feisol. I ask because I'll have a demanding use case of shooting a D850 (ultra high res) with a non-VR 500mm f/4, frequently with a 1.4 teleconverter -- so I'll be at an effective 700mm, which will magnify vibration that much more. Head will be a Katana Jr. If I don't lock everything down, I think the 344L will be more than enough. But in low light when I need longer exposure times, that's where I'm wondering if it'll struggle with vibration.
    I'd love the stability of the 424L, but will need to pack it in checked luggage and there will be some short hiking. So naturally the form factor of the 344L is easier to work with in those situations. I want to be realistic though about what I can expect from 34mm legs in those conditions. If you can, I'd love to know what you think based on how it's performed for you so far compared to your initial impressions. Thanks!

    Recently bought the 424L with a red apex and leveling bowl, and the BH1. They go nicely together with their touches of red. They form a beautiful beast. Bought direct on cyber Monday and got 15% off which helped.

      Hey man, I also want to get the 424L tripod. I do have a few questions for you though. Does the flat top mount come with a hook underneath it to hang weight from? or do i have to purchase that separately from their website 'cause i saw a top replacement plate with a hook built in. Also how do you feel about the general weight of the 424L? do you see yourself traveling with it? I very much appreciate your time if you can answer my questions! Have a good day!

    • @ckgarman
      @ckgarman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@taotaoatnyc Yes, it comes with a hook on it. It is definitely not light weight or small. I will be travelling with it, but I do worry about theft from checked luggage. I am of average height (5'8") and fully extended with BH1 on top, shutter release is just barely reachable.

    I have a Gitzo fluid gimbal head and wanted a better tripod then my Induro 314. Was all set to get a matching Gitzo Systematic they would look sexy together. But after further investigation I found out that the beautiful gray apex is cast. And just recently needing a part for a small older Gitzo I have the part needed to come from England. It took a few weeks and the shipping was kinda pricey. Having always wanted a RRS as well I looked in to them and pricing them. I have to say they are sure proud of their tripods! Then I found out about ProMediaGear but didn’t find out much about them. Then came your reviews. Thank you sir! You sold me I ordered one today. One of the 34 series 4 sections 59 inches. According to both PMG and Induro specs it is a pinch over a pound lighter and rated 20 pounds more weight capacity. Do you know anyone that wants to buy a Induro? Looking forward to Monday!

    Love the video! Have been researching PMG vs Gitzo vs RRS for the pat 2-3 months. Have discovered that Gitzo (USA based) customer service has much to be desired. RRS are good, but don’t have the height, or the option of the quick removable top plate. Have heard/read good reviews regarding PMG quality as well as customer service; love the fact that PMG is also made here at home in the USA! Wish the PMG 344L had the quick removable top plate too.. Almost ready to make the plunge. Thanks again for the comprehensive reviews!

    Do you think the 344L weight ok as a travel tripod? Kind of confused since some of the Gitzo tripods seem to be sub 4lbs. I have to admit I LOVE the features and look of the 344L though.

    • @t0bistr
      @t0bistr 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wanted to get the 344L actually and also get the compact apex also. But I didn't end up buying because combined with a decent ball head it would have been around 2,6kg, which is definitely too much weight for traveling for me. I mean, depends on what you mean with traveling. I didn't buy it because I need a tripod for multi-day-hikes. Even with my current 1,8 kg tripod the backpack weight was actually ridiculous. If I wouldn't want to use it for multi-day-hikes I would have taken it definitely. I think for a day trip the weight should be OK, as long as you are fit enough. I will wait for next years black friday and hopefully PMG will have an even lighter travel tripod then, that you can combine with the different apex's.

    On the 344L and 424L , What is the hight at the base with the lower smaller leg kept inserted? I was looking at the 343 51" because I'm 5'8 and with it fully extended with ball head and pro camera it would be at eye level. So I'm thinking I can just not extend the lower leg and get the same result. Thanks for the info !! Also I got me a Tilley hat because of you !!

    • @photoapeal
      @photoapeal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do agree with you in a way all of these tripods are too expensive for what they are. I have the TR424L and it's a very good tripod, I purchased their leveling bowl to go with it. I also have their TR34M monopod which is my go to unit that I use for most of my photography. It weighs way less & it was $299.00 I kind of wished I had purchased the one with the 1/4 accessory screw mount to mount a strap to etc. If you unscrew the foot to use the spike you have to be careful of the foot coming loose while hiking. If you lose one they can be $50.00. I found mine on sale for 1/2 price so I purchased two, may have to use lock tight to insure it says on. Some of these lenses are as much as a car so why would you want to cheap out and purchase something that might fail suddenly. I don't know about you but I don't want my lens and camera falling to the ground. It's expensive but it's an proactive insurance policy as well. Best Regards, J.R. Peal - Photo-A-Peal
