@@higashirinchiah1013Reports say it’s the young trainee doctors that are protesting this, not the experienced doctors who would be the ones doing the training. The protesting young doctors say Korea has enough doctors and they just need to pay them more, not add new ones, but the reality is that Korea has a lower doctor to population ratio than in other developed nations, so they actually _do_ need new doctors. So why are these young doctors (residents themselves that will not be training these new doctors) upset that there will be 2,000 new doctors added in 2025?

The medical spokesperson only mentioned that the government plans are bad and that they are against it, but does not elaborate why. Why would they they be against expansion of medical schools in order to reduce the workload? I think they just want to keep scarcity of medical staff in order to maintain their salary and positions.

Does it need to be explain? Is so, here's how it works simplified.
"government makes more med students=more residents,
      more residents=more training,

higher workload for experienced doctors=more burnout

Lets simplify this. Everyone migrates in cities. Provincial hospitals are dying. Metropolitan hospitals are understaffed. Veteran doctors increasing heavy workload. Fresh interns need training. Veteran doctors too busy. Lack of facilities, lack of skilled and experienced doctors, burnout, and underpaid.

@@Adam-mv4fwYes, it needs to be explained. They said it is young, trainee doctors who are protesting that proposal to increase the number of admissions to medical school, and not, as you stated, experienced doctors who would be the one’s training an increased number of residents who are the ones protesting. Why are trainees the ones protesting this and not the “experienced doctors” then?

Each system is different, but the burden of people in training often fall on varying professionals with little to no compensation, in general it's very easy for a system to delegate responsibility, if something goes wrong (say with student) than the system can just throw the individual professional under the bus blaming them for this and that mistake, so it's easy to imagine that you have a system that can endlessly overburden the professional that always has to just adapt to this increasing workload, only alternative for them is to quit, but if they do than for many they'd quit life because they've dedicated themself completely to the profession, they're perhaps socially dependant on the status, not to mention the economics. More doctors can hypothethically lessen the workload in the long term, but that 1. isn't very relevant if today's doctors are in a crisis 2. if a set increase in responsibility is a given 3. If budgets, number of employees, stays the same and the number of people educated will only be used as a tool to lower salaries..

Are there any SK doctors in the comments? It feels like some information is missing and odd that the protest is only due to increase in medical school intake. There must be some other contract related stuff or conditions which was omitted. Even the interview with the doctor's rep was cut short, only the generic comments were aired. It feels as if the gov is using media to portray a certain image.

More complex, or complicated, events behind the walkout. Classified, so we won't know. The video is unclear as to the cause, and appropriate resolutions. Is it really just about the low pay??
Humans is a "crazy" species. The human world was not as "crazy" in the past, but only some very "crazy" individuals here and there, now and then. Now the craziness in and of the world has increased. "Crazy" and "craziness" is being not reasonable enough, not logical enough, not assertive or decisive enough. Though we have more than enough of the necessary and useful means - to have a reasonably ordered world even with some "crazy" or "unreasonably enough" individuals in it.
This unreason, illogic, unwillingness will continue feeding the progression to the future.
Doctors from nearby countries can fly in to help/relieve the ill patients. This is a temporary solution. Military doctors though are medical doctors may lack specialized skills to deal with or knowledge of certain illnesses or conditions.

In the 80s/90s, the older generation wanted their children to become doctors, accountants, engineers, and nurses. Why? Because these professions offered high pay and were in high demand. Now, these jobs are considered over-stressed, crowded with patients, and offer low pay due to an oversupply of talent.
My friend, a retired doctor, shared his experience with me. He worked tirelessly every day and had no time for family or himself. The only time he could truly enjoy life was after the age of 60, in his retirement with a walking stick.

Edit: Found the full article. Turns out SK does has this medical law and government has ordered them to return to work but they still protested. Even the Korea Medical Association seems to be supporting the interns but they haven't decide to join the protest...🤔
And reason for protesting as stated in the article:

Yeah.... they're definitely busy... because there're a shortage in the supply of new physicians which is exactly the issue the government trying to address ....lol
Also FYI, I'm old enough to work in the biomedical field for more than 2 decades. I clearly know the real agenda behind their protest is to make sure the supply shortage will continue so their incomes won't be affected. The more senior doctors also push the younger doctors to protest so they won't be responsible for anything in case the situation gets out of control.

Universal Healthcare isn't the problem, its the fact that they aren't having enough new doctors coming out ontop of a higher aging population, with deflated salaries due to inflation. They need to increase Medical Schooling, education, and overall hiring & infrastructure. If we can do it here in Sweden, you can do it too. Just don't do it like the Americans haha.

I think many guys are missing some sane logic here. Do you know how the trainee doctors are trained?
Hand by hand. A resident doctor leads a team of trainee and can teach them in detail well if the team is few in number. And, it's not easy for trainee doctors to become resident doctors. With more people, it means less chance to be taught by seniors because everyone is full of patients and have no time to teach well. Furthermore, the competition will become more fierce which bring more stress.
Burnouts and these docs will make more mistakes. Besides, these trainee docs are already underpaid. If they have more trainee docs, they will be more underpaid.
At the end of the day, doctors are also humans.
If you're ready to blame them for not staying up to the codes, you can now sign up in a medical university, spend money for classes, get through it and become a honourable noble doctor in myths and fairytale in your mouth.
    😂

I am not understanding this logic at all. I am sure it is all about pay. In the US, we train advance practice professionals such as Physician assistants and Nurse Practitioners to deal with less complicated medical treatment and can practice under the guidance of a licensed medical doctor. However, they also can assist in surgery. This is how you offset workload.

That's the ongoing challenge with all universal healthcare, without capitalism, doctors suffer equally and patients all suffer equally.
Under private health insurance in the US, it's more like tiered, there is always some unhappy and some very happy, patients are the same where the poorest aren't happy.
The problem with universal healthcare is that there are too many unhappy people which none are like "i can't take it anymore." Under private insurance, the unhappiness and happiness are too far concentrated in fewer number but severity of each case is greater.

  • @lynnem5616
    @lynnem5616 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

More students means more workload for residents (who are responsible for the students in their clinical rotations!!) means less quality or adequate attention for patients, and it's worse if the residents are not well compensated. How is that so hard to understand for y'all in the comments? Sure, increasing medical students will eventually solve the supply issue, but not by breaking the backs of the experts responsible for their education. (Which, clearly, will lead to less quality education and mental and physical strain on the residents). Like that guy said, the government should listen to experts and find a solution that does not overwhelm any side. Governments are always in a hurry to introduce policies in sectors such as healthcare or education without giving much thought about how it affects the staff on the ground responsible for those changes (usually the overworked, underpaid lot). I'm surprised people living in a world where essential service providers usually receive the short end of the stick can't clearly see what could be the problem here.

Increase school admission = increase supply of doctor. Doctor supply increase but doctor demand side way/linear/down = less pay. For those who don't understand, the concept is close to inflation except it's related to energy supply this time. Although, I still think it's ridiculous to stage a rebellion for this since korean currency is strong, they can always work in foreign country. Please leave some reply to my opinion, I want to learn new things here.

There is no shortage of doctors, in fact it has been increasing every year the past decades.
The shortage we see are specific fields (obgyn pediatrics etc) where risk is high and are paid low.
Many pediatricians simply had to quit and start doing laser hair removal in order to earn money, which is an absolute waste of their specialty.
There is no shortage, THERE ARE THE DOCTORS WHO ARE LICENSED but they cannot do their job because it is underpaid, or they have to pay an enormous amount for legal issues.
The doctors oppose because the gov is not addressing this issue properly, but use the doctors for their elections.
