    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Spicoli (Sean Penn) learns that Mr. Hand (Ray Walston) has zero tolerance for tardiness.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Amy Heckerling's adaptation of Cameron Crowe's Fast Times at Ridgemont High is often considered one of the finest films of a disreputable genre (the teen sex comedy), and kick-started the careers of many future stars. The center of this ensemble film is Jennifer Jason Leigh as Stacy Hamilton. She is a young, innocent high-school student who, as the film opens, is asking for advice from her friend, the sexually outspoken Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates). Stacy takes a liking to nebbish Mark Ratner (Brian Backer), but he is too afraid to make a move even after Stacy all but throws herself at him. She eventually hooks up with Mark's more confident best friend, Mike Damone (Robert Romanus). When not concerning itself with these four characters, the film spends time with stoned surfer dude Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) and his ongoing feud with history teacher Mr. Hand (Ray Walston). The film includes brief appearances by such future stars as Nicolas Cage, Eric Stoltz, and Forest Whitaker.

This is exactly when I went to high school and the movie is spot on in most of its parts. The teachers were straight up with you and did not sugarcoat anything. Your feelings were not even on the radar. You either got yourself squared away, or you fell behind and flipped burgers for the rest of your life. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but I am so grateful for those old school teachers.

@ I’m in California and I do. I thinks it’s ridiculous to pay $20/Hr for fast food service. If you want more money, go to school and learn some thing more substantial to gain more money. You should never ask for more money perpetually for the same thing that you’re doing.

Did you know he adapted that persona from the surfers from dog town? Whom went on to revolutionize skateboarding as we know it. Theres a scene where he takes a checkerboard Van's shoe and hits himself in the head with it. that shoe was worn by Stacey Paralta. Penn narrated the documentary on them called the Z-boys of dog town.

Some of the comments get the name of the printing technology wrong. Mr. Hand's list of quizzes was printed using a "ditto" machine. The ditto technology used a volatile solvent to transfer a waxy substance, usually purple in color, to the printed page. That solvent was what we all loved to sniff. (I was in my high school's class of 1971.) In contrast, the "mimeograph" or "mimeo" technology used plain old ink, usually black, squeezed through a stencil onto the printed page. The ink didn't have an odor. But mimeo was messy, and if the teacher was in a hurry he or she could easily splash some onto clothing. Ditto was easy and fast, and any spilled solvent evaporated quickly.
