As an American, I was/ am very embarrassed by the way "American interviewers" behavior and ridiculous questions toward all BTS members. Was extremely proud of how RM handled the situations, because it would have been hard for me to be so professional. So much admiration for BTS and Big Hit!!💜👏😎

I really love actually, when you go on a "rant" as you say. Like your speech about so called "factory manufactured K-pop". Western media is always so biased if it is not a western artist that they are talking about

Wow... Thank you very much. Hope these double standards will get better in time. It feels odd to hear someone liking my rant thought. I stopped any type of rant in front of my wife... so that I get to live. ^^

what you said about asian men was spot on, and i have heard so many stories about asian men Living abroad who is now viewed as handsome and have it way easier to get a girlfriend and make friends, than before.
BTS has helped alot with that. people are more used to see BTS and also watching kdramas. but yes there will always be racism in the US. still black people have it hard too. and it took a long time before a black person won anything at the oscars and in music.
US is just really toxic masculine and here in Europe we tend to mimic what US think. also it´s either US music or our own music, that are played on the radio.
they refuse to play korean still. it´s only a few songs like gangnamstyle and despacito who got played. and it´s so wrong. but i do see a change already and as long as US take the first step the rest of the world follows.
but US is also afriad to give power to korea because they will get all the money. and people would no long go to US for music. they wont loose the power they have on the entertainment industry.

In that billboard awards, we army, had other fandoms from other kpop groups voting for Justin Bieber, so BTS wouldn't win it,
But we still made it 😂

Thank you for opening up to us; I'm glad you were comfortable enough to do so! And it wasn't just you, I remember Yoongi's talking about his sense of duty impacted me quite a lot when I first saw it. Anyway I'm looking forward to your next reaction, I always have a good time watching your videos! 💜

That was not a rant, you just spoke facts! Asian representation is a sad joke...
Billboard like others US awards use BTS for clout but sabotage them in the same time. Most of interviewers ask stupid questions, some even bully them... The first BTS red carpet remains a horrible memory because of the hostility of the media.
I'm proud and happy that BTS stayed strong despite all this shit and that they managed to impose themselves.

BB just created more K-pop categories to keep them all out: JK, Jimin and Yoongi.
Jimin made one non-K-pop category (and 3 K-pop ones).
But sure Seven is not Pop/s.
Yoongi does not deserve to be in Hiphop categories for his tour (I'd cry if I weren't that angry)/s.
BB are truly a billboard for Western artists (whose label pay in one form or another).
Funny that BTS still keeps winning anyway. (and f* BB!)

we call Bill board the bullyboard coz man after 2017 BTS won top social artist every year and I think after 2021 it has been discontinued. They created a Kpop category and shoved all of Kpop artists in it. This year SEVEN by JK a whole english song , produced by western producers was shoved into Kpop category and isn't in main category at all. Basically saying anything not from America will not be in main categories.

So, for example a Canadian singer or a Mexican singer can not be in the main categories? No Europeans also? Lol. Actually it is kinda funny and sad. They can try but you can not stop the changing world. There is a limit to that. Even the most snobbish and bull headed Oscars hasve changed a bit so..... lets see what happens. 😅

@@komerican-og they have a whole latin category coz their songs are not in English , which is probably why they created a kpop one if that was the only reason I'd be okay. But when seven is a whole English song why do they have to put it in kpop?
I wouldn't know about Canadian they probably will be in the main category. I don't know what their ideology is, scammys too

actually MJ did write most of his songs so that was a bad example but other amarican artist yes for sure. it´s all a machine. but there is also a difference between an artist who just sing whatever songs people give them.
compared to artist who choose what songs they want to sing and hire a songwriter to write what they want to express in their lyrics. in kpop it´s the label that chose whatever the idol has to sing. they can´t say no.
they are also not really in charge of their lives. too many rules and stuff, BTS had rules too but it was not as bad as the others and i do think there needs to be some rules.
BTS said no to many of the songs bang PD wrote. they work with the label, not for them. that´s the main difference. all artists have help in some way but if you have the control that´s all that matters. at least for me.
i think that´s what they mean by manufactured.

The problem with Asians in entertainment is the orientalism aka. hyperfeminization of both female and male Asian (artists).
I watched a vid by Rice Squad about how BTS made Asian men sexy and it was so true about how Asian men are depicted in movies/TV shows.
bby gang mag/Elliot Sang has that theme a bit in a few vids about Orientalism and Asian Fetishization. It's not pretty but pretty sad.
    So much: Why?!
There are Asian artists but the ones I noticed are also black and as such they are more often categorized as such and not as Asian.
(MJ wrote his music, but Elvis Preseley didn't - not one song)
Thank you for your reaction! 💜

While I do agree with you about the Western media bias, I think Michael Jackson was a poor example. MJ wrote and composed quite a bit of his own music and wrote many songs for others.
I would also argue that the bias of a manufactured group is rooted in our own negative history with boy groups. The term " boy band" originally referenced groups that were specifically "manufactured" (young, trendy, no involvement in creative process, bubblegum pop) to mimic the R&B template and bring it to pop, capitalizing off the mainstream audience that their black counterparts were prevented from crossing over into. While the term has expanded in definition with time, the negative connotations of its origins still follow it.
Let's face it; BTS is also one of the anomalies. The majority of K-Pop and other "boy bands" did fit the bill of a manufactured group. While it is not fair for BTS to have that stigma placed upon them, let's not pretend that it was an unreasonable thought.
With that said, of course, xenophobia is a contributing factor in these biases. Westerners couldn't fathom the thought of a group that actually creates music and actively engages with fans, lol. 😮 Because we have devolved so far from authenticity as a society, we tend to be more skeptical of it when it appears.
I can only hope that one day, BTS and other true artists will get the respect and recognition they deserve.

You are right in that MJ was not a good example. He did compose some of his music. Actually, I have nothing against Pop singers or groups that do not create their own music. The song writing is not a prerequisite at all in judging singer or groups. Now if we wanna talk about artists and sing a song writers, that would be a totally different subject. I feel that the performance should be respected also. Just like MJ performiing Thriller like no one else can or Whitney Houston's beautifully singing most of her songs should be considered as an artistry in itself, even if they did not write the song. I think I was pointing out that why is it a manufacturing when Idols deliver an awesome vocals and or dance performance? There are those who write their own music and perform them as well. I personally look at them in different category and pay respect to that. As you have stated only few Idols would fit this mold and BTS is one of them. Not many are like BTS. I have explained why letting artists make their own music can be counter productive for the 'companies' In short they do not want to relinquish the control. However, I am so happy that there are more and more of them these days like GIdle and Seventeen to name a few. More respect is paid to these teams but I believe it should end there. There are very few who can do even one really well. We should celebrate how rare and wonderful it is. I just did not like the superiority complex that seem to be behind 'Manufactured' Statements made especially by western media. They would never call great western performers and singers manufactured cuz they did not write the song.

It's not really changing much tbh😂 i don't see it changing, and that's not a particularly bad thing either. If you think about it, why aren't there a lot of white or black actors in k-dramas? Because they are in the minority where those are being made. It's just the truth. Brutal, but still true.

    • @komerican-og

I totally agree with you on the point about being realistic. However, US is not made of only white and black people and Not all asians are nerdy weirdos or kung fu masters. Representation is one thing but misrepresentation is something different. Many things have become so much better throughout the years. However, all I am saying is that ignorance of the past is turning more to hatred. Lastly, things like racism should never be OK. We can live with it.... like all things terrible in reality(there are so many aren't there?), but if we accept it as it being OK, it will never get better. Like disease, if you leave it alone, it just gets worse.
