Knocking it out of the park as usual, your writing style and humor never disappoint, and I get to learn stuff while it's happening! Keep up the good work Seer!
I know this took an insane amount of work. It's crazy how low the view count is, gotta be algorithm fuckery cause this is an insanely well done top tier video.
I wish this would've gotten more views. I am not a fan of turn-based stuff at all, but this was wildly interesting, and your style and presentation are amazing. I hope you have the time / motivation to continue this in the future. I have followed you since 1.2k subs, I'm so proud to see you grow and improve. One of my favorite youtubers, no doubt!
Chrono Trigger is already a 4D game. You travel through time, affecting outcomes in many main and side quests, unlocking many different endings, and you can even “cook” magic boxes in early eras and return in later eras to receive upgraded items.
Hey Seer, love your content! Just some constructive criticism, but I've noticed you seem to try and introduce lots of structure to your videos (like the rating system here with all the checkboxes, or the long intros and rating system in your Finding the best ARPG series), but you don't really take advantage of them. To me at least, you seem at your best with free flowing jokes and long inspired rants and tangents that take you everywhere and end up nowhere, rather than getting bogged down in disclaimers, intros, clearly separate sections, etc. Just my two cents. The video about Fate was a lot of fun and seemed to have a more organic progression, if that makes sense. Great stuff either way!
I can't believe you didn't put Ultima IV here. How dare you not put Ultima IV here? In all seriousness, awesome video. Your one of the few people on the platform that I'll always watch when you release a video. Keep it up! (Seriously though, Ultima IV is a certified good ass game. Also, it's one of the very few games I know of where you have to craft your spells, and you can kill everyone in a town with one command and a bone.)
Weird shit. I just checked your channel for the first time in a month wondering if you had a new video out, didn’t see anything, then get a notification 10 minutes later that a new video was out.
How the ever living fuck does this only have 10k views, some of the best editting and writing and humor out of any channel like this. BRB gunna go spam this shit to every single unrelated subreddit for 3 hours
Seer, big time fan here. Was going to write a big message here stating how good of a creator, talent, communication skills, fun, creativity, etc. but just want you to know (I hope you do already) that you rock, man! 👏 Thanks for sharing your passion with all the community. Keep up the good work! ✊
This must've taken so much time to make! Thanks for another verbal diarrhea packed video! But seriously, you're doing a great job! Hope you're well, cheers!
The one new feature I _think_ Zelda II innovated with - And this is a weird one - Is overworld shortcuts. You get abilities that let you go back to earlygame areas quickly, which unfortunately means Zelda II is a little bit Dark Souls. Also, your cadence and writing is in fine form here, and the video itself is a whole new level. Being a giant fan of Dorktown, I love all of this.
Woooah you're right, Zelda 2 probably did invent that concept. Every other warp until then had been menu based. Alas, live and you learn. And thank you! I'm glad this video was up to scratch and that you enjoyed it!
Used to play MUDs all the time in the early 2000s that shit rocked and still some of the best and most impactful multiplayer gaming experiences I've ever had. You're a real ass dude Seer, appreciate all your content
Holy shit yes, I've been looking for something exactly like this, a video relaying the history of ALL RPG video games, not JUST JRPGs, or JUST western RPGs. It's weirdly hard to find a video doing both, most just ignore the side they don't care about.
Here is a comment for the algorithm as your videos deserves many more views. I'll have too watch it later as I don't have the time right now. It's probably good though so I'll give it a 10 out of 10 - excellent content!
I feel crazy for not thinking fire emblem was an rpg and I love the series lol along with the mega ten games obviously. I learned a lot from this , very well done history lesson.
Seer proving that he is Seeriously insane-- Err, I mean insanely dedicated and perhaps even good at what he does? This is definitely something I did not expect to see out of you, especially when it relates to the obscene amount of effort that's evidently gone into it. All I'm going to say is that it's a fantastic video and I can't wait for the next part!
Just recently discovered your channel and man have I been enjoying it! You're one of those rare creators who is able to balance being both very informative and incredibly entertaining at the same time, which is no easy feat! Looking forward to part 2!
Pretty entertaining but there are inaccuracies here and there like: -Faxanadu not being the first sidescrolling ARPG (DS2: Xanadu, Tritorn, Wibarm, Zelda II, Rygar NES, Getsu Fuuma Den, arguably Golvellius MSX since it had side view segments) -Action-based progression was done before FF2 in Adventure Construction Set, Xanadu and Dungeon Master -Recruiting monsters was done in Wizardry IV so maybe SMT got it from there, but those are from the same year -You already mentioned Cosmic Fantasy before Lunar as the first anime one -FF2 and King's Bounty (MD/GEN) had non-random encounters before Idea no Hi
Love your videos, I've only just found this channel thanks to your Grim Dawn arpg video. Maybe a bit too unique for this list, but a shout out to Moonstone, 1991. A competitive 4 player RPG with gory beat em up gameplay mixed with like a Talisman like race to unlock the chance to be eaten by the final boss.
Good job man! Looking forward to the D2r streams with the new ladder. May I suggest enchantress this time, watching you hit stuff that is immune to your attacks will be fun.
16:40 4D, there's a whole lot of dimensions to pick from, but a game using time as 4th where your character grows in strength as a young adult aging and weakening with age towards death by old age would be interesting.
You're a fucking madman. Okay, I've complimented you - Now give me another heart. Jokes aside, this is incredibly impressive! And only part 1? Damn! Keep pushing, you got this.
Fun fact: in vanilla wow if you had a bow or gun and had ammo in your bags, but not on your “paper doll” inventory tab, and you tried to attack with the bow or gun, the message that appeared was something like “no ammo in paper doll ammo slot” So I knew what that meant hehe
I think using the music being a significant part of what makes a game good peaked at Tales of Phantasia. You can't tell me you didn't feel hype when Fighting of the Spirits rocked on as you're fighting for your second summon.
Hope u was working on second part, cause this was good (also hope u finish it soon around now and like in january at least, take ur time do a good research), like it a lot. Ur presentation well its like mg3 LMG and cuts through all.
Love your videos, Seer! You have an uncanny ability to drop a massive amount of knowledge in a really entertaining way. Would you ever consider doing some guides to the different classes in Diablo 2: Resurrected? Would definitely enjoy your take on the best builds and how to level them.
I just want to point out, the AI-controlled party members were introduced in Dragon Quest III (and all Tactics would be different forms of AI control), whereas IV re-introduced the ability to manually control your party members while also allowing you to instead choose AI-controlled tactics. I kind of became obsessed with the early Dragon Quest games last year and played through 1-4, which is the only reason I know that.
Really good video. If there were any egregious inaccuracies I wouldn't know since I'm not an RPG nerd. Curious as to wether you'll include RTS games with RPG elements like Warcraft 3 or the (vastly underrated) MMORTS Shattered Galaxy.
I humbly request you make a video to the best ARPG ever made. The god damn goat of goat. Dark Angel Vampire Apocalypse. Never has there been or will there be another gem of this quality.
Me and a buddy of mine back in '96 traded off renting Hollywood Video's only copy of Earthbound, he gave me so much shit because I named Jeff (the science nerd) after him. Naturally he responded in kind :P
Next video, Paper Mario Sticker Star and the deterioration of RPGs. And classic turn based RPGs like FF7 being remade and "upgraded" to action RPG with HP sponge enemies. Oh and RPGs having very high HP monsters and a stagger bar that take too long to beat.
It's always disappointing when videos of this insanely high quality don't get the recognition they deserve.
The amount of editing and work put into this video is crazy. I hope eventually TH-cam will give your channel the attention it deserves
Knocking it out of the park as usual, your writing style and humor never disappoint, and I get to learn stuff while it's happening! Keep up the good work Seer!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed!
I actually can’t believe a single meathead made this. This is some high quality content. And what a cool video topic!
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
This is a criminally underated channel, can't wait for it to be huge
Ikr based content creator
I know this took an insane amount of work. It's crazy how low the view count is, gotta be algorithm fuckery cause this is an insanely well done top tier video.
I hope this series wouldnt die to low views, c'mon youtube, ffs
I wish this would've gotten more views. I am not a fan of turn-based stuff at all, but this was wildly interesting, and your style and presentation are amazing. I hope you have the time / motivation to continue this in the future. I have followed you since 1.2k subs, I'm so proud to see you grow and improve. One of my favorite youtubers, no doubt!
Chrono Trigger is already a 4D game. You travel through time, affecting outcomes in many main and side quests, unlocking many different endings, and you can even “cook” magic boxes in early eras and return in later eras to receive upgraded items.
This is a true statement, in annoyingly technical ways.
@@seer6251 technically accurate is the best kind of accurate!
I tried to play this in Steam and it wouldn’t stop crashing 😭
And then proceed to fuck up the time stream by collecting said "cooked" magic boxes and then going back in time to collect the "uncooked" magic boxes.
Pretty much all games use time as a dimension though and Chronotrigger is a 2D game graphicly so at best it would be a 3D game
Hey Seer, love your content! I can tell you put a ton of work into this. You've learned a lot since you started.

(Seriously though, Ultima IV is a certified good ass game. Also, it's one of the very few games I know of where you have to craft your spells, and you can kill everyone in a town with one command and a bone.)
Wait, where the heck is part II?
I NEED to see it!
Weird shit. I just checked your channel for the first time in a month wondering if you had a new video out, didn’t see anything, then get a notification 10 minutes later that a new video was out.
Spooky
TH-camrs grow up so fast these days. Brings a tear to my eye. You deserve it this is good stuff.
How the ever living fuck does this only have 10k views, some of the best editting and writing and humor out of any channel like this. BRB gunna go spam this shit to every single unrelated subreddit for 3 hours
An actual legend, lol thank you! Maybe the day part 2 is finished, it will have its moment.
ur scripts are always so well written omg ur a gem
Damn, you ain't slacking around, it's hardcore
Seer, big time fan here.
Was going to write a big message here stating how good of a creator, talent, communication skills, fun, creativity, etc. but just want you to know (I hope you do already) that you rock, man! 👏

This must've taken so much time to make! Thanks for another verbal diarrhea packed video!
But seriously, you're doing a great job! Hope you're well, cheers!
Thanks very much! I had fun with this part, even if it nearly killed me. Hope you're well too!
The one new feature I _think_ Zelda II innovated with - And this is a weird one - Is overworld shortcuts. You get abilities that let you go back to earlygame areas quickly, which unfortunately means Zelda II is a little bit Dark Souls.

The man, the mith, the legend has returned!
The thing I am most impressed with here is the obvious work you put in to nail some of these complicated pronunciations! Seer levels of perfection.
Such an underrated channel, great content!
Just keeps getting better all around man! Shared it right off the bat. Super entertaining as usual. Keep kickin ass
Paused the video to tell you how happy I am to hear you say good word on Ultima. Carry on
Used to play MUDs all the time in the early 2000s that shit rocked and still some of the best and most impactful multiplayer gaming experiences I've ever had. You're a real ass dude Seer, appreciate all your content
man I LOVE your writing and jokes, this is gonna be a good one
Criminally underappreciated video. One of your best yet!
Loved the video, will their ever be a part 2?
This
Give part two pls Mr. Perceiver
Bro you put so much effort in your videos, awesome! :D
"It's final fantasy, I'm sure that wasn't a big deal. *It was a big deal."* Never change, Seer. Love your humor.
"If you're anything like me, well sucks to be you!"
That bit genuinely made me laugh out loud.
Good stuff, it might take a while but keep making content this good and the algorithm will pick it up eventually. You deserve it
I'm going to go out of my way all the way to SHARE this video because it's criminal it's under a million views. Huge effort I know thank me later
Wow this was so good. Thank you for existing.
i wouldn't expect Zeliard (1987) to get a mention, but i was happy to see the png xD. great timeline, can't wait for part 2
Just rewatched this. Can't wait for the next one!
As video game historian i appreciate work you done.
Awesome job on this, and such great nostalgia for some of these, especially Quest for Glory, the first rpg game I ever played.
Holy shit yes, I've been looking for something exactly like this, a video relaying the history of ALL RPG video games, not JUST JRPGs, or JUST western RPGs. It's weirdly hard to find a video doing both, most just ignore the side they don't care about.
Just gotta say your videos are 100% underated your content is great you deserve more subs man
I can definitely see why this took so long. Very interesting video and looking forward to the next one!
Where the heck is part 2 I need it
I love the way you write your videos!!! This channel will get big ,keep it up !
Here is a comment for the algorithm as your videos deserves many more views. I'll have too watch it later as I don't have the time right now. It's probably good though so I'll give it a 10 out of 10 - excellent content!
This is fuckin beautiful. You deserve a much larger audience.
This is a actual amazing video dude, bravo for the good work.
Just watched this, can't wait for part 2!
Thanks, Seer! Don't stop doing what you do best!
I feel crazy for not thinking fire emblem was an rpg and I love the series lol along with the mega ten games obviously. I learned a lot from this , very well done history lesson.

I legitimately snorted when you said "if were anything like me, sucks to be you".
Your videos bring me joy man always glad to see you upload something :>
This is some quality content, keep it up man! Love your vids.
Pretty entertaining but there are inaccuracies here and there like:
-Faxanadu not being the first sidescrolling ARPG (DS2: Xanadu, Tritorn, Wibarm, Zelda II, Rygar NES, Getsu Fuuma Den, arguably Golvellius MSX since it had side view segments)
-Action-based progression was done before FF2 in Adventure Construction Set, Xanadu and Dungeon Master

Choose you own adventure books and txt based adventure games deserve an honourable mention
You're a fucking madman.
Okay, I've complimented you - Now give me another heart.
Jokes aside, this is incredibly impressive! And only part 1? Damn!
Keep pushing, you got this.
That means a lot to hear, thank you! Now here's your f***ing heart
"Wow, fuck!" - Shigeru Miyamoto

Amazing video, dude!
Fenomenal project, and I am only 5 minutes in. Quite the generous bestowal of RNG knowledge and history
Thank you! I had a lot of fun researching a lot of niches I had never experienced personally.
Love your videos, Seer! You have an uncanny ability to drop a massive amount of knowledge in a really entertaining way.

Finally a seer video. Very well done old bean.
Great video!
Its also a drinking game, take a shot anytime you hear 'fleshed out'
Finally. Lore for the RPG cinematic universe.
But on a tangent: how many features can you remove from an rpg before you can no longer call it that?
Seer is one of the TH-camrs I instant like the video before I even watch it
We need to get you more subs, great content bro.
love this video, looking forward to part 2 :)
Sure...
Really good video. If there were any egregious inaccuracies I wouldn't know since I'm not an RPG nerd. Curious as to wether you'll include RTS games with RPG elements like Warcraft 3 or the (vastly underrated) MMORTS Shattered Galaxy.
More people need to see this. Damn good video
Is this chrismass yet??? This present took me by surprise and with present I mean a Seer video. Time to shut the heck up and watch
4D RPGs games ironically might exist sooner than you think. Someone made a minecraft-like game but in 4D.
I saw that, haha. I wanted to refer to it, because it was super cool, but I just didn't find a way.
Great video Seer.
Thank you!
It's inspiring to know that mutants like me can make quality content.
Jokes aside, love the history form video. Very entertaining
32 minute as a part 1? Damn seer be puttin in the overtime :0
Based Seer using 3rd edition as a template for the Stat Sheet 😤
11:00 dragon slayer was actually the first japanese rpg... which you already covered
anyways nice video
Wasn't Majora's Mask technically a 4D game in the sense that you could travel backwards and forwards through its timeline?
Oh nice, a Seer video. And its long.
Call him Long Daddy Seer
Well written witty words :)
YOU NEED TO TALK ABOUT BATTLE BROTHERS IN THE PART 2
I humbly request you make a video to the best ARPG ever made. The god damn goat of goat. Dark Angel Vampire Apocalypse. Never has there been or will there be another gem of this quality.
A magical era, may a similar era come again.
Amazing work ♥️
Thank you very much!
@seer I even read that in your voice lol
Me and a buddy of mine back in '96 traded off renting Hollywood Video's only copy of Earthbound, he gave me so much shit because I named Jeff (the science nerd) after him. Naturally he responded in kind :P
Amazing video
Beyond oasis is something everyone should check out
Love your work Seer! Any chance you would be up for tackling a Dragon's Dogma review? Love that game!
Yeah, absolutely! I'm not sure that'll be soon, but definitely in the pipeline somewhere.
@@seer6251 Awesome! You must throw your pawn off of a cliff, it's a rite of passage lol!
Next video, Paper Mario Sticker Star and the deterioration of RPGs. And classic turn based RPGs like FF7 being remade and "upgraded" to action RPG with HP sponge enemies. Oh and RPGs having very high HP monsters and a stagger bar that take too long to beat.
