    Beautiful squat technique bro, you're an inspiration

  • @tv26889

    No hate, but that wasn't a pause rep, that was just a regular rep. Your hips were still sinking before the ascent--there was no dead stop. And definitely no dead stop with a 1-2 second pause which is what a pause squat is.

    • @ploonge
      @ploonge  ปีที่แล้ว +87

      True. A millisecond feels like an eternity in the hole. Going for longer pause next time

    • @tv26889

      @@ploonge Good luck, Ego really kills people with pause reps because you're going to have to take off weight to really do it the right way and benefit. I would guess you around 375 with a decent pause.

    • @abadran8174
      @abadran8174 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For weightlifters anything that you didn't use the bounce in is paused. And judging by Jack's back angle, flat chest, and strictness in form, he's a proper weightlifter.

    • @tv26889
      @tv26889 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@abadran8174 A pause rep is a rep completed at the minimum from a dead stop at the bottom--a pause before the concentric.
      Down and up with a slightly slower tempo isn't a pause squat. What type of competitions the lifter trains for is irrelevant when determining the legitemacy of the lift. A down and up bench press isn't a pause bench because a lifter is not a powerlifter. And likewise, a down and up squat without the bounce out of the hole doesn't make it a pause squat just because they are an olympic lifter.

    • @tv26889
      @tv26889 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Banx Why do I keep getting these comments? No, that was not a pause squat. Hips still sinking and no dead stop isn't a pause squat. That was just a regular rep. Clarence Kennedy has videos of him pause squatting--that's a pause squat.

    Do you keep a slight arch in your low back when going down? I keep hearing people say "tuck" the pelvis a little, but I get back pain when doing that. When I keep a VERY slight arch it feels fine, is that normal?

    • @francik4225
      @francik4225 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are posterior pelvic tilt then you probably shouldnt tuck, because you are already overtucked. The thing is, most people are wide infrasternal angles which tend to develop into anterior pelvic tilts (archy backs) so they need to tuck. The tuck means slight posterior pelvic tilt (only pelvis- hip bones are moving), most people are overdoing it and slouching/ crunching. That could be tiggering low back pain. We have to stack, so subtle tuck, not too agressive. Hard to say whats going on with you without assesment.

    • @Tinfoiledhat
      @Tinfoiledhat ปีที่แล้ว

      @@francik4225 I get what you're saying...hmm yeah I'm def over tucking then cause I def wouldn't say I have a huge archy type back but not posterior either, pretty neutral. When I started lifting we all squatted like the westside tards so I'm slowly relearning squat patterns with knees forward etc. Thanks bro!

    • @SisypheanRoller
      @SisypheanRoller ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Your spine should not be moving under load. A slight tilt at the bottom is normal for most people, but if it's excessive, you will eventually injure yourself.
      Learn to breathe into the belly and squeezing that tight with your abs. That combined with a glute squeeze before lowering into the squat will do wonders for your technique.

    No one should be pausing in a full squat (below parallel). Any pause squat should only involve a loaded barbell with less than 50% of your body weight. Of course, less weight may yield less results. The risk on your lumbar spine is very high during that pause. It is much safer to have that flowing bounce when the stress of the weight reaches your hips in order to rebound back up. Good luck if you choose to keep pausing with progressively heavy weights and be ready to have a good surgeon available when you herniate the lumbar spine. You may not recover from this type of injury.

    • @danaparish1644
      @danaparish1644 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      That was hardly a “pause” at the bottom. Your comment means literally NOTHING to someone squatting 420 lbs with good/proper form - StevenSweet. Unless you’re Tom Platz (who would never make a remark like that) I don’t think you’re qualified to comment on his squatting technique.
