    Yes, sir! I enjoy your informative videos and the range of subjects from flintlocks to percussion, to modern arms and how to handle them. You and I have about the same interests and probably similar experience over the last decades (?). We enjoy the shoots if the weather holds. Much wetter her, even in the summer. Rendezvous and shoot camps are made of mostly tepees instead of tents, otherwise we do the same things, trail walks, tomahawk and axe throws, specialty targets, fire-making! (brrr)...Thanks a lot for the realistic and accurate info.

    I was looking for a first traditional muzzleloader. I am a poor college student and was wondering between a Lyman Great Plains Rifle, and an Armi Sport (Chiapa) Enfield replica. Which would be better for a beginner? I know the Enfield is more meant for Minnie balls but how would it handle patched round balls?

    Question, are kids allowed to come? I'm 13 and wandering if I would be allowed to come and shoot. I am good with guns and am looking into getting my first black pounder rifle. I am good with my 12 gauge and 22lr. Any suggestions on the gun I should get with a very small budget?

    Dear Mike: I know you have lots of experience with Blackpowder. I have noticed that Grafs import from Germany a blackpowder that they market for $14.95, almost $10 per pound less than the Swiss which I really like. I never could warm up to Gerhardt Owens (GOEX), it is dusty and I think inconsistent. My favorite was Curtiss and Harvey, it seems that it and Swiss are about equal in quality, Curtiss and Harvey has been extinct now for many, many years. If I can get enough information, favorable information about the Grafs product, I'll stock up with it, but I really want a better powder than GOEX. Can you help me out and give me some guidance on this matter? My last big buy(truly a very large buy) is almost gone, (it was a very large one made more years ago than I care to remember) all those cans read Du Pont which is almost the same as GOEX, I've got a few odd cans of GOEX, Swiss, and Elephant left, bought as samples in order to evaluate them, Swiss is really nice, but it is really expensive. If you can, please advise me on my next purchase of powder, I'll be buying FFFg, FFg, and Fg, I still have a lifetime supply of FFFFg left. Help me if you can please.

      @duelist1954  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Donald Denison I like the Graff's powder. It is made by Wano in Germany...also imported by Petro-Explo as Schutzen. It is not quite as powerful as Swiss, but much better than Goex.

      Dear Mike: Much of my shooting will be using the Big Lube 250 gr bullet using an over powder wad of .060 thickness and .455 diameter I'll be compressing the powder with one of Buffalo Arms powder compression sets. I have been able to load 40grains of Swiss FFg this way without the wad, but with mediocre accuracy. I usually shoot at about 50 yards and with the Unique load of 9 grains with a rudimentary rest I usually get 3-3 1/2" groups, the 40 grain load without the wad is much worse than the Unique 9 grains load that I have shot since 1954. I'm thinking perhaps about 38 grains compressed with the wad using Dick Dastardly's Pearl Lube II will give me full power and soft fouling with accuracy in my Cimarron Uberti revolvers. I was amazed to find the throats were a uniform fat .452 diameter, my old Colts are up to 456 diameter. I'll be using 16-1 alloy. Black powder is usually in stock at Grafs, Unique which I really like with a 9 grain load is never in stock. Does Grafs powder have that nice finish like Swiss and Curtiss and Harvey? Thanks for your help, I'll try not to be a pest. Been watching your Bucks County build, fascinating, I just built a Lehman Trade Rifle in .54 and with a flint lock using a Green River Barrel I had on hand, a very accurate rifle, and a relatively easy build. May God Bless you and yours Don D Bear104172 AKA Don Denison

    sir, you speak about how black powder substitutes are "not liked" in flintlock rifles. BUT, can they be made to work, for those of us that have a difficult, if not an impossible, time acquiring satisfactory volume of real black powder? Could you do a video or series on how to make subs, like Pyrodex, work in flintlocks of such bores as .40, .45, .50? Thank you much!

    • @duelist1954
      @duelist1954  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hui Heavies it is pretty hit or miss. They don't work as priming powders in flintlocks. They best bet is to duplex them with a 10 or 15 grain charge of real B-P down the bore first, to catch the flame from the pan, topped with Triple 7

    Man, I would so love to go to something like that. We have mountain man rendezvous here in Idaho. I went to a couple when I was younger. Probably the same idea basically except it's based on the mountain men out west like liver eating Johnson and others. He actually ran around some of the areas here that I camp, hunt, fish, ride quads etc. I've never participated in a rendezvous, I went as a spectator. At that time I didn't own a black powder rifle, just a junk brass '51 Navy that never really worked right and it finally went totally tits up lol. I did buy a nice horn flask that I still use. It's full of Goex ffg now lol.
