This was exactly what i WASN'T doing and was driving myself crazy trying to align my eyeglasses back with the arm. I would've never, in a million years, figures out how to align it with the spring mechanism open. my eyesight thanks you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I had a similar experience. When I was looking for a solution, I didn't even mention the word "Spring." Instead, I inquired about how to tighten the screw on my reading glasses. After watching a few videos, I stumbled upon this video, which taught me how to become proficient in tightening spring hinge screws.
Thank you!! After melting my brain for a while trying to figure out why the holes didn't match up I found your video! I have a bunch of sewing needles of different sizes, and used one to hold open the spring. My family and I have been wearing glasses for about 10 years and I didn't know there was a spring, you learn something new everyday!
I spend almost 2 hours trying to fit something into the spring part and also fitting the screw in very carefully. This time it took 10 minutes. I would have never thought to use another screw you’re so smart omg
I just spend an HR on the floor at my coffee table trying to fix my 8 year olds glasses. My leg is numb and I feel over getting up. You're telling me it only takes 2 mins to fix these things?🤦♀️ I will give this a try. Fingers crossed it works.
I spent two hours trying to figure out why my temple wouldn’t line up with the screw hole. I went to the Optometrist and they shown me exactly what you just did. I didn’t know the temple was spring loaded. It explained why the temple is so flexible.
I also crazy at work (Optical Assistant) trying to fix this for a client..I was shocked as to why it wouldn't line up ..tomorrow morning when I get to work it's me & the frame ,I'm definitely going to get it right
Thank you so much! Once I figured out my problem was that it was spring loaded I looked up your video for guidance and was done in a matter of a few minutes! God bless you for helping others 🙌
thank you, the wedge was the missing key, I spent nearly an hour agonizing over how to keep the slots lined up under a massive amount of tension and considering the tool being used to pry it open was also filling the space the screw needed to fill it felt like a fools errands
Spent an hour just figuring out there was a spring lol. Then another 30 minutes trying to figure out how to keep it sprung. Then this video helped in 5 mins lol
Dang! I would have never fixed my glasses without this. The key was using a spare screw as a wedge to hold the hinge open. I was trying to use a paper clip, but it just kept popping out. Thanks for the video!
Spent two hours trying different ideas after one watch of this video once I swallowed my pride that I could get it myself, and voila! This video was sooooo helpful
bro, I gave up mid way of trying to line up this freaking holes and decided to eat instead. Then I realized I won’t able to see if I don’t fix this damn glasses, thank God I found this😭
This technique works perfectly if you have the miniature punch tool (came with a new cell phone) and a set of miniature screwdrivers. I used a tiny flathead to hold the loop in place instead of another screw.
Thank you so much for the video. Bent glasses at the hinge point and screw almost popped off. Removed it and bent frame hinge points back in place but could never get the screw back in. Thought I pushed in the middle section or hinge points on frame still needed adjustment. It took me 2 hours to realize that I have spring-loaded hinge but it never occurred to me to try this method. Saved me a trip to the Optometrist for new frame.
❤ thanks so much for this video i have tried absolutely everything you can Imagine my pitbull dog got her teeth on my wifes glasses and dad is the fix it person she will learn to keep them in the case next time thanks again from another youtube creator from east ohio.
after two hours of trying this and the screw kept popping out, we are sporting a ghost earring (courtesy of my toddler) to keep the arm in. f it i’m getting new glasses 😭
love my old pair frames, expect metal hinge coating came off and started causing skin irritations , so i bought similar shape frame, thought I could just swap out metal hinge for plastic one, nope newer frame came with spring hinges, oh well. Now I cant put back on hinge to the frame, spring hinge sink inward, wont line up holes for screw to drop, your video solved my mystery, and trip to glasses repair and money. thanks.
Thank you for this!!!! 🙏🏻 I was getting so frustrated trying to fix my sons glasses and not getting everything to align properly… until I tried this! I should have got on TH-cam sooner and saved myself a couple of hours of stress and frustration! LOL.
1st: I didn’t think to use a SIM card tool 2nd: I knew it was tensioned but not quite like that. Now I actually know how my glasses work 3rd: Sick music!
Thank you thank you thank you thank I spent hours and contemplated life and I watched your video and it’s three am and I finally fixed my glasses with two safety pins ❤
Thank you! Was thinking my glasses hinges were warped, didn't occur to me it was the spring. Other video using plier didn't help at all, probably did more damage. Your method works so much better.
Dangit why didn’t I come to TH-cam first? Wasted two hours of my life. Thanks to this video I was done in 5 minutes after watching the video. Lol.

After an hour and a half of not understanding why the screw wasn't going in thid was a lifesaver. Thank you and please never delete this video 😂
Thank you so much!!! I wasted 45 mins for a 2 mins fix!!! 👍👍👍

Thanks. Fixed in 2 minutes (slightly annoyed with myself for not coming up with a solution on my own though!)
thank you, the wedge was the missing key, I spent nearly an hour agonizing over how to keep the slots lined up under a massive amount of tension and considering the tool being used to pry it open was also filling the space the screw needed to fill it felt like a fools errands
Almost broke my pair of glasses out of frustration before finding this video. Thank you.
Saved me a trip up to the optometrist. This may be the most helpful video on the internet!

One hour trying put the f screw …I looking in TH-cam then 2 minutes finally is in omg
Thanks for this video. Because I really didn't want to start wearing a monocle like the Planters Peanut guy🧐.
Why was the screw out in the first place? They are under a load so they normally don't just come out. I just use a push pin from the bottom.
Thanks! I was on the right track just didn't extend the spring far enough by bending the long part far enough over. Joe
thanks so much omg i love u dude, was wondering why the holes wasnt lining up. U THE MANNNN
Wish i saw this before i broke my glasses
You’re a fucking legend lad I could make out with you right about now🙏🏼🙏🏼

The video jump cuts before you add that second screw... I am still lost and baffled. Where, exactly, does that magical "hold it open" screw GO?
