Brilliant video, tips and advice. Perfect 3 pairs of glasses. Loved that you chose lenses that cover all indoor and outdoor lighting conditions. You offer the best advice and I love the perfect eyewear wardrobe you’ve built for me 👍
Binge watching your videos. Learning so much. Buying first pair of reading glasses. Trying to nail the size. Having a tough time. Broad head and big eyes.
Love your channel! Gives me new ideas for eyewear options and cool glasses brands and models I'd likely never run across. Wish those Modo VS1's were still available, but that's what makes them special. Cheers, from Austin, Texas!
Question: I most often buy metal frames. The paint gets scratched and chipped too early, while the rest of the frames are still usable. Is there a way to repaint them? If so, what type of paint and finish would work and would be ok near face and eyes?
Thank you. I appreciate this video but as a first time glasses chooser/wearer it confuses me even more regarding shape. It also seems to me that adding a tint albeit a light one for one’s every day lenses would detract and obscure the appearance one’s eyes. The choice is understandably a personal one as I understand it may well bring a bit more comfort to the wearer. I appreciate looking into someone’s eyes when I’m talking to them as well as their ability to clearly see mine as well. Obviously a good tint outside is a must to be able to see clearly in high light conditions as well as being what I call sunscreen for the eyes.
Those modo are sick the adaptive with the yellow rim esp in the travel video. how do you take out the plastic rim? does modo let you buy just the plastic rim? I just got a pair in nude on nude (coppery color) but I want to change the it like you did.
No you have to buy both frames and combine them. Would be glad to do it for you! You still get 2 frames out of it, and MODO are very reasonably priced in the first place
10:50 hi, im so confused. In some videos you have gradient tint in other videos you have a full yellow tint or blue tint. How do i know which color tint and whether i should have full color tint or a gradient tint? If i can only have 1 pair of tinted glasses as an all day everyday pair, what would you suggest? I work inside at a hotel resort and then i stock the hotel guests mini bar, do id be looking at paper at the room numbers. Sometimes in the holidays ill help housekeeping strip the beds and pick up towels. I dont work on a computer but at home i do like to scroll on my tablet and ive picked up sewing for a hobby. I just wanted to tell you my daily activity so you can help suggest me a tint or gradient tint and which color. Also, can you polarise normal inside glasses? Or polarise is only for sunglasses? Thank you 😊
You’ve got great taste! You came at the right time when I’m about to shop for new glasses! I’m stealing yr indoor modo design though 😀 ain’t listening to my optometrist no more!
Are they DriveSafe in your JFRey carbon wood? As opposed to SmartLife in your Modos. Love the way you customised them to suit your own personality. Are they as comfortable as RE's? I was thinking of the gold edition with Hoya Sensity Brown if that would work? Thanks for sharing your thought process. Definitely inspiring as always👍
All 3 are SmartLife. As a ratio, it seems it's about 3:1 SmartLife to DriveSafe in my Eyewear Wardrobe. So the next pair will probably be DriveSafe! I'd say 90% as comfortable as RE - the titanium is not quite as flexible and slightly thicker with a screwed hinge. Beautiful nonetheless. Gold Edition with Sensity Brown would be a bit plain, no? I think the brown and gold might be too close in colour? They do a Sensity Shine Green which is a green tint and Blue Mirror coating - that would look beautiful!
Great recommendations, love the Modo VS1's. They remind me of the awesome Allied Metal Works frames which you did a review on a while back... to bad both models are discontinued. Any suggestions for frames with similar styling and material? Cheers!
Great video and great advice. I have another question about eyeglass brands. In my glasses hunt lol I’ve come across a brand called Lindberg. I really like their rimless and full titanium air frames. Do you know anything about the company and quantity of their frames. Thanks
Lindberg are great quality and a very well respected brand. I have nothing bad to say about them but they don't excite me, either. I'd get Flair, Reykjavik Eyes, or Modo instead but just my personal opinion.
Wow - Those VS1s are so nice. I had never heard of them prior to this video. Rob: You mentioned you used 1.67 in that frame. What is your typical advice as to when someone has to use high index (as opposed to CR-39) for a frame of that thickness? My prescription is -1.75 and am curious as to whether you think it's necessary at that level. Thank you.
Yeah my Rx is about -1.5 and with this style of frame it's all about a clean look. It's not necessary, but it's preferable aesthetically in my opinion to have none of the lens showing

Your videos are so informative and I thank you for your efforts! I have noticed your personal preference for rounder frames that work so well for you. I'm fair skinned with very little close cropped grey hair and wear a hat size of 7 7/8. Round lenses look like two bulls eyes on a snowball in me. It would be awesome if you showcased a few more square and rectangle frames when choosing for presentation. Secondly, I live across the pond and some brands don't make it to the US. For example Reykjavik Eyes and IC! Berlin. Ovvo Optics are similar to IC! Berlin and I may choose that brand. I did find one IC! BERLIN Changguyn in rose gold color. But I find no reference to that frame anywhere. Is it new, old or I wonder what. Any ideas?
Not sure on that one as we don't deal with IC! We ship to the US all the time so if you like a pair and want them, just let me know. I do try to cover all shapes but when choosing my own glasses as you say, they tend to be rounder generally. Thanks so much for your kind words.
Hi from Sweden. I am just about to change glasses and I think I will try the fl41 but I would like to know: why is it so expensive? Is it worth it for migraine? And also: what colours are generally most calming for anxiety and autism? What are your thoughts? 😊
It's a difficult tint to create. Blue and violet are the most calming colours - I recommend the Sweet Violet I wore in this video: th-cam.com/video/LBnuNHgNg6g/w-d-xo.html I'd love to make you a pair 🙂
@@thespectaclefactory thank you so much for the answer. And thank you for the offer. It sounds so cool you have no idea but I am pretty sure I wouldn’t afford it and I live in Sweden so I don’t see how..
Would you recommend a photofusion 25% gradient brown tint (wanted to get rose but I don't think it's available.) Paired with a jade green duravision flash for my Reykjavik eyes ALBA brushed brown frames? Thinking of getting it polarised too (My skin tone is brown so I think it'd look good blended in)
There is no such thing as PF with a permanent tint. Apart from the Zeiss stuff in the US which is just independent labs licensing the Zeiss name. Zeiss Germany do not offer tints with PF. But aside from that, a rose gradient tint on transitions can easily be done.
If he has a light prescription, it wont affect him much. For people with really strong prescriptions like myself, it can make a big difference, also switching between multiple pairs of the same rx can be challenging.
Do a review of spectacle frames for bikers that they can put a helmet over. I use silhouettes with progressive lenses, but they are too fragile to slip a helmet over.
I love JF Rey as a brand and even though some of their frames are not for me, I’m drawn to them nonetheless. What do you think of the brand LGR? I ran across their frames a while back and I wear their Malabo in 50mm as one of my go to frames. The story of the brand is even printed on my cleaning cloth. It’s some of the greatest craftsmanship I’ve personally come across, and the Malabo is the lightest optical frame I have, even lighter than my titanium antique gold aviators.
I hesitated from wearing eye glasses because, I feel, they look horrible on me, but recently my eye sight has gotten worse. So, last week, I found a pair named *Oakley Tin Cup* and I loved how it wore on me. It fits my budget too. I am thinking of buying it. What do you think?
Well, I'm not a fan of Oakley but if you like them, they make you feel good and will help you wear glasses more, I really think you should go for them!
Unfortunately, with the strength of my lenses, I can't go minimalistic even with ultra thin lenses. I'm stuck with pretty similar glasses every year. I'm back to contact lenses at 58 years old.
I was wondering in the beginning of the video why your lenses are so flat and reflect light like mirrors and then you admitted - you used 1,74 for what? -1.0? Overkill is an understatement. If you'd used 1.67 spherical it would've turned out absolutely the same thickness, but with a higher base curve thus better looking. And since you ordered your 1.74 with tint it had to be Rx anyway, so why didn't you also order it with special base curve? You know it's possible to order 1.74 AS with special base curve, right? Other than that - I agree with you about MODO - cool and quality frames for this price. I like them too. Cheers
I specifically wanted lenses that were as reflective as possible, hence ordered them on a 0 base. It really makes the most of the flash coating which I added to them. You're mistaken, though, because these are indeed 1.67, not 1.74 (as I stated in the video). Lastly, spherical or aspherical lenses are quite old lens designs. We don't really use them anymore - my lenses are Zeiss SmartLife, which are much more complex, resulting in much less optical distortion.
I am old enough to know what suits me and what I like and what gives me confidence, but then the person shows me sixty pair I hate because they don’t carry a particular line. If you shop around your optometrist seems miffed. People are ordering on line because of this disconnect at the spectacle shops. The ones I like are often too expensive. Alas….. I also have a small face and the recent trend to goggles is depressing. Lucky you that can get good frames. Sigh…
You do not need tips for eyeglasses just put on the eyeglasses to see how you look with them on and do it with a numbers of them until you find the one you like the most the way you look better with to make up your mind to look your best to yourself and to other people that makes you happy to have the most
Actually a lot of people struggle to choose glasses which they feel good in. That's why I like to help 😄 Also... looking in the mirror is inherently subjective. It's NOT the best way to choose glasses, as you'll tend to lean towards frames which feel familiar or easy to wear. The safe choice.
