I don't think this is really a series on campervan building anymore. It's more of a documentary of a man slowly descending in to madness while looking for his glasses
As a safety professional, I always find myself holding my breath with my hands to my head!! Lifting that satellite assembly onto the roof!!! All's well that ends well!! What a great project - I love watching you problem solve your way to your dream campervan.
I did the same thing. Dremel the motors off. Same 3D printed elements. But I kept the original modem as using only the Starling when standing still. Powered by big Lithium battery. Works perfect!
Tell you what Nigel when I had my woodwork shop I had AT LEAST one pair of protective glasses with each machine, bench and work area so I didn’t spend all day looking for them!!!
Your dad looks like my next door neighbour. I always put our protective glasses down in the exact same spot, so I can find them. I'm always worried my wife is going to use them though, because you can guarantee she'll put them somewhere else and I'll have to use the old, scratched pair instead.
Mate, love these campervan series. I have my own campervan that takes me around Europe for photography and surf adventures. The one thing we struggle with is to charge our macbook pro laptops. For some reason they macbook charger drains the household battery to fast. I'm curious to what your solution is to keep your laptop(s) charged while being parked. What household battery system did you set up?
You should have added a weep hole(s) on the aluminum sheet under the starlink dish; rain is very persistent. Also, where will your potable and grey water tanks be mounted???
I am surprised you put a shower in...I thought in Europe you could always check nito a motor camp where showers are available as it takes so much space......and weight it adds
Nigel I have used Starlink at home and for work. The non-RV residential version (which it appears you have) is geolocked - meaning if you drive around to a different area, it won't work. The RV version does not have this problem. Have you checked that you will actually be able to drive to different areas and still have it working?
@bencollins7684 if I may interject… The hardware is not restrictive. Your dish may be the same hardware as Nigel’s. It’s in fact the subscription plan that determines where you are licenced to use it. A Home plan fixes your location as the only place to use it. I have the Roam plan and like Nigel, the device can be used anywhere on land and up to 16km off shore in many countries on the globe. There are some countries where it cannot be used. I’m in Australia. The ability to use any of the 3 models of hardware available, recently opened up to use while mobile.
Sorry for the off-topic, but I figured on this channel there are many Nikon users :) I just bought the 100-400 zoom lens and I noticed that there is something inside that rattles when I wobble or rotate it. I presume it's the VR, since when the camera is on it doesn't do it. Is it normal or should I worry? It seems weird to me if it were to be normal, it sounds so cheap
@@NigelDanson Thanks! And sorry again for the spam, I figured that it would feed the algorithm anyway, so it was not too bad ^^" I did enjoy the video though! :D
Nigel I'm praying and hoping you never get cramp, drop the soap or even sneeze whilst in your new "fits like a glove "shower ! Also slightly baffled why you frequently refer to your new van as a "car" , no car ever made was as big or houses so many creature comforts, it's a motor home, or at least it will be one day! Lol. You do have a good sense of humour, probably just as well. Hoping you'll be in by xmas as your house appears way too tiny to house your camera gear collection, lol.
Wow, you can start another business as a camper van builder for budding photographers wanting to get off grid, after you've finished your own Nigel. Just don't put on weight for that shower/toilet! lol.

I agree

Love the bravery and flush fit of the Starlink - and Nigel's voice going up an octave when he's pleased with himself!
“I put my son under the car…” had me laughing before you finished the sentence. Such a dad thing and I love it.
TH-cams most funny diy video, keep it going😉👍 wonder if the van can move with all that weight in it😁👍
Another informative and funny van video with added jeopardy moments. Maybe santa will bring you some spare safety glasses. 😊Brilliant, thanks Nigel.
Incredible amount of work and precision! Amazing.

All that drilling in a brand new Crafter .... now that takes some guts ! Very curious about your electricity setup ! Kind regards, Guy.
Lol, i never knew Makita also made jackets. Interesting video as usual!
For someone like, with two left hands, no tools and most importantly, zero skill, this very impressive ! well done
Tell you what Nigel when I had my woodwork shop I had AT LEAST one pair of protective glasses with each machine, bench and work area so I didn’t spend all day looking for them!!!
Good tip!
Who's a clever boy then! ( hope it all works when you finished) 😅🤣
Surely it will - won't it?
seeing the tools you have you can have my tool kit:- hammer, pliers and saw!!!Tx
Your dad looks like my next door neighbour.

Im looking forward to the day im 60 and can finally do this
Safety glasses are not expensive - I hang a pair on every machine. Never lose them and they are a good reminder to use them.
I would not have been game to chop that antenna. I’m a bit surprised it works- ours moves around all the time to locate a satellite.
Yeah - there are so many of them now that it isn't really needed. Still get the same download and upload speed...
@@NigelDanson Yes, I see that’s what they are saying. Maybe we have less here in Tasmania!
Great video

Thanks - there are some weep holes. Grey water tank is underneath
Nigel, I would really appreciate the name and model...or a link to the 12v-48v supply and same for the wifi router. Keep up the great work bub
Rick's laughter at the end...ha ha. Looking good, having the dish encased like that doesn't affect it at all?
Not at all
@ very cool idea, glad it’s working out!! 👏🏻
I am surprised you put a shower in...I thought in Europe you could always check nito a motor camp where showers are available as it takes so much space......and weight it adds
It was more I wanted a room to dry things and a toilet….
"The video Starlink does not want you to see!"
Do you not have to be able to turn/tilt the Starlink to make it work properly?
Nope - works fine just pointing straight up
I wondered the same but you are only in one position so it may change in a different location, I hope it works for you after all that work.

It isn't geo locked any more which is good
@NigelDanson as in your particular one has been un-geolocked, or the residential version is no longer geolocked for anyone?
@bencollins7684 if I may interject…

Tell me you covered up the big hole in the bottom of the satellite dish, my OCD needs to know. And is that Rick Bebbington?
Very entertaining (and interesting) -- but will you ever want to finish your van?
Probably not - I love doing it
All the fancy tools, but no allen key bits for your drill...;)

That isn’t normal - best to get it checked out

You know there are these strings you can attach to your glasses and then put them arpund your neck 😊..
I’m not that old 😂

Is there an ending to this story? Been waiting a while! By the time you finish, all the things you put in will be outdated.
No rush

.....bud...😂
You need a chin for your safety classes so you don't lose them 😂
Nice one Nigel, just a question how are you going to line up the starlink when it only points at one part of the sky? and cannot move any more
that is my question too
Doesn’t need to move as so many satellites now
It
It doesn't get better than....... 🤔
Solar panel are shit had them tried them binned them not worth the money
