I'm a 1st generation (legal) immigrant. My ancestors have never set foot on this continent, let alone had anything to do with slavery. But, I'm supposed to pay some penalty simply because of the color of my skin? That's the most racist BS idea I've ever heard.
My first ancestor came in 1749 in indentured servitude. After the contract he worked a piece of land and after it grew specifically said "no man will work for me for free". Then my family went on to fight in every single War starting with the Revolutionary war to help build this country. I had family specifically volunteer in the civil war to uphold the family moniker. My family has literally died over and over again for this country, and all races of it's people and I got to listen to the view????! Makes me sick.

My ancestors fought on the side of the Union. I had ancestors who lost their lives fighting to free black slaves. Where is my families reparations?
The truth is, majority of Americans are not the descendants of slave owners. I’d argue there are Americans whose families fought for the Union, and yet Sunny wants them to pay reparations.
My dirt poor share cropper family was forced to fight for the south. Why would I own them anything? During that war, you didn't have a choice. You fought for the state you lived in or you were hung.

Many families didn't even get here till after the Civil War. My great grandfather came to the US in 1901 from Germany.
The bigger fact is that a vast majority of Americans didn't own slaves during the slave trade. Slaves were reserved for the wealthy upper classes and large land owners. Most white Americans during that time had to scrounge for their own survival and lived in similar conditions that slaves themselves lived in.
I agree with you. My family came from Germany in the 1880s. Reparations cannot be justified. Every descendant of a slave in this country is far better off than if they were still struggling on the Gold Coast of Africa.

Same with my great grandfather 5 times removed. From England to Australia to work in chains…. Took my family nearly five generations just to own property and that was by working a 70 hour week as carpenter/ builder for many years. The ignorance is astounding….

Her ancestors actually had the audacity to move from Spain to Puerto Rico to continue their slave trade but everyone else and their ancestors are the problem. Cant make this stuff up.
In my book that makes her ancestors more evil than the plantation owners that bought the slaves. Leaving the old country after it was declared illegal just so they could continue trading slaves is the worst part. I hope this revelation haunts her in her dreams every night.

Of course she's still for reparations . She doesn't consider the money as coming out of _her_ pocket. She considers it coming from the US taxpayers as a whole -- you know - that body of productive people which happens to include millions of millions of people who DON'T have slave-holding ancestors (like she does). Hell, many of those taxpayers have ancestors who _were_ slaves themselves and/or ancestors who actually fought to end slavery. She views reparations as a punishment and proclamation of guilt against the people she unfairly blames for everything she thinks is wrong in the world.
