Thank you for the information. I am still very new to scrollsawing so still experimenting with different blades. My biggest problem is trying to use plain blades. I just cannot get them to stay in. I have no problems using pinned blades but obviously it limits the size of cut I can achieve.
Hi Peter, Great to hear from you and thank you for the positive feedback. We get an issue sometimes with blades slipping out in the same way. We sand the ends of the blades to get them to grip better. Might be worth a try if you keep getting the same issue. Thanks again for supporting our TH-cam channel. All the best from us all here at The Lovespoon Workshop. 👍👍
Thank you for your very informative video ! 👍👍👍Until now, I have just made a couple of small baskets, made from thin plywood. However recently I tried to saw hard, thick ashwood, and you probably can imagine that the feed speed was snail-like ! I started off with blades from Proxxon having 17 tpi, and then went to 14 tpi, with only a minimal improvement, and I don’t remember seeing blades in their programme with TPIs of less than 14. I will now see if I can get hold of some good blades eg from Niqua with a TPI of 8-10, and then see how I get on then : if it doesn’t work then, I’ll have to stick to softwoods.. or chuck it ! 🤷🏼♂️
Hi, great to hear from you and thank you for the positive feedback. Ash can be more challenging for scroll sawing but a more suitable blade should indeed make a big difference. Flying dutchman also do a near identical blade to the Niqua speed one we use and if those are not strong enough for the thickness of Ash you are cutting, pegas have a new blade called the Pegas Hook. It has been specially designed for hardwood. Not quite as good a finish as the Niqua speed or flying dutchman but it is a very strong blade for cutting hardwood. Hope you get the results you are looking for. Thank you for supporting our TH-cam channel. All the best from us all here at The Lovespoon Workshop. 👍👍
@@DailovespoonsThomas Thank you sooo much ! I just wish I knew about this a few weeks ago, as it would have saved me a lot of time researching. The researching itself can be difficult even on the Niqua website, as I couldn‘t find data on the TPI of their blades. Proxxon do quote TPI values, but not in the form of a table i.e. only when you click on one individual blade, you get that info. That makes the going tough for newbies ! Thank you again ! 👍👊👍
@@zeejimi4044 spot on, spare a thought for dad. He's been scroll sawing for 20+years and only recently fully realised this. He was more familiar with t.p.i.on band saw blades. @@DailovespoonsThomas Hi Thomas, I bought 3 versions of blades from Pegas to try out on the Einhell scroll saw which I bought specifically so that I can use pinless blades. After mounting a Super Hook blade, I started sawing a piece of pine, about 3/4“ inch thick. After cutting a length of about 3 inches, the blade broke loose from the holder, so I had to switch the machine off. I then re-inserted the blade into the holder, and when I tightened it up again, THE TIGHTENING SCREW BROKE. In my view, the Einhell holder for pinless blades sucks ! I will be returning the machine to the shop where I bought it, as it is now useless. This may mean the end of my scrolling days, as the success rate other than with thin plywood and pinned blades (using a Proxxon DSH V1) has not been good, to say the least..😳🤷🏼♂️
I have a scroll saw from Harbor Freight. I was told that I needed to use 9TPI blades on 1/2-1” Oak wood. What speed is needed to glide through the wood, I used high speed and being a new blade, it stalled a lot and I got burn spots on my wood. I’m new at this and want to know how to do the best work I can.
Hi Gizmo, great to hear from you. The Niqua Speed number 9 reverse tooth blade I use is around 9 tpi and I cut alot of Oak. I use a Hegner Multicut 2s. Mine is the single speed machine so it would be fixed at a higher speed. The scroll saw never stalls when I am cutting. You could try putting packing tape on the item you are cutting, it can help to lubricate the blade whilst cutting. A good quality blade is also essential to get the best results. @@DailovespoonsThomas question. Are there size marking on the blade itself or do you need to count the tip yourself? They’re so small, should I keep it in a case and categorize it myself?
I know what T. P. I. means, but I never took it into consideration as far as the thickness or hardness of the wood. Thanks for the information. I have been using Flying Dutchman reverse tooth and have had pretty good luck with them. I have been thinking about trying Pegas reverse or geometry blade etc. What do you thinks helps with really tight turns? Enjoyed take care!
Hi Michael, thanks for the positive feedback. We were exactly the same here. Never really gave it much thought because our normal blades have always just done the job. Earlier this year we were unable to get our blades (Niqua speed reverse tooth number 9 blades) from our normal supplier so we bought some online. When they arrived we installed them started to cut and they were useless. They were Niqua number 9 reverse tooth blades but Niqua fix blades with alot more teeth per inch.
