What I like to do is putting blue painters tape on the wood then applying the pattern with adhesive spray on the tape this way I just pull off the tape and the pattern follows plus the tape lubes the blade

Hi Dana, great to hear from you and thank you for sharing the technique you use yourself. That's a great method for sticking the design down and certainly one that is worth considering for anyone who is interested in scroll sawing.

I see that some scrollers cut clockwise and some counter-clockwise. Is there a difference? Enjoyed! Happy New Year to you and your family. Take care!

Hi Michael, great to hear from you. I do both. Its a case of follow the line and cut out the shape. Whatever suits you best and gets the results you are looking for.

I am definitely new to scroll sawing! Just received one for Christmas and can't wait to give it a go. Thank you for the very timely tutorial. I guess my biggest question is to do with blade size vs wood. Sounds to me like a reverse blade is a good all round blade. What number blade would you suggest for 1/8th inch wood and 1/4 inch?

Hi Kelly, great to hear from you and I hope the video was useful. In regards to your question blades are definitely the most discussed and debated aspect of scroll sawing.
Personally, I am working in hardwood between 1/2" and 1" in thickness and my blade of choice is the Niqua Speed reverse tooth number 9. I would suggest for the thickness you are working in a number 3 or 5 would be more suitable. Additionally, pay attention to the t.p.i. (teeth per inch) as this will have a great impact on the feed speed and how fine the finish is. Again my blade of choice is 9 teeth per inch. For thinner wood the number of teeth per inch will need to be higher to get the best finish. Flying Dutchman blades are equally good from my experience so buy those if they are easier for you to get hold of. The other alternative I would recommend is Pegas blades but I find it necessary to sand the ends to get them to grip properly.
Hope that helps and you enjoy making things on your new scroll saw. If you want any free templates check the link in many of our videos.

@@DailovespoonsThomas thank you! Very helpful. I also appreciate that you suggested working on something very basic. As I watch more and more videos, I start seeing all of the intricate work a person can do. Thank you for the reminder that as a beginner, it’s best to get a bit of practice under my belt

You're very welcome, always a pleasure to be able to help out if we can.
We never lose sight of the fact that wood with its grain and colour is a beautiful material in itself and simplicity has a special beauty too.

Great video. Is the Hegner Multicut 2S Scrollsaw really worth the investment? I have been using a scroll saw for one tenth of the price for several years and had no problems.

Hi, great to hear from you and thanks for the positive feedback on the video. Basically, we used lower priced scroll saws when we started scroll sawing and had issues with the ones we used. This led us to the Hegner multicut 2s and it did the job for us. It's done thousands of hours of work and we are always delighted with it.
Having said that, if your scroll saw is doing the job I would not suggest changing it. If you're happy with it then continue enjoying working with it.

@@DailovespoonsThomas May i ask what the problems you had were, maybe i am having those problems and just am used to them?

    • @DailovespoonsThomas
      @DailovespoonsThomas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Absolutely. Some of the issues we were confronted with included excessive vibration, drifting whilst cutting, and a finish that was not of the quality we wanted.
We had the opportunity to use a Hegner Multicut 2s at a demonstration and could see the difference when trying it.
If you are unsure, I would definitely suggest trying before you buy it. You might find out that you have adapted to the little peculiar things that each and every scroll has and a different design causes you more problems than solutions.
Thanks again, all the best from us all. 🎄⛄🎅✨👍

@@DailovespoonsThomas I think i have had the three problems you describe at points but as you say i have adapted to them.
Glad you have found a saw you are very happy with and it has worked for thousands of hours. I think i just got very lucky with my cheapo one that it was okay.
Thank you very much for your lovely messages. Happy New Year to the both of you :D
