- Tapuae-o-Uenuku is the tallest peak in New Zealand outside of the Southern Alps range. Part of the Inland Kaikoura mountain range, the climb to the summit ended up being the scariest hike of my life.

Hey just want to say thank you for doing the vlog. Not only is it inspirational but also very informational for others. I think I'll be too coward to climb up that summit and call it a day where you said you had anxiety attack. Kudos for getting up there.
Do you have a detail strava or gpx of the route?
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately I don't have a gpx of the route. We were just doing our best to follow the information I gathered from a few websites I read. Honestly can't believe we made it!
@@aStrayLife npz, thanks for the reply, hope I'll find the courage and time to attempt this one day!
Thanks again :)
Nice video. Huge effort to push that last bit to the top. Well done.
Thank you! Probably my first anxiety attack but I overcame and summited!
Congratulations! Great video, I'm hoping to climb Tappy soon too
Itâs an amazing hike! Pick some good weather and take more than two days. It was quite strenuous the way we did it!
I have climbed in both the Southern Alps and the Alps. To get to 10,000 feet in the Alps is easy. To get to 10,000 feet in the Southern Alps is tricky and damn hard work.
I bet! Depends on the snow situation, too. Many hikers choose winter to climb Tappy so they can use crampons on the snow instead of climbing up the scree like we did. Iâm not experienced in snow so summer was perfect for me!
@@aStrayLife I definitelly think Tappy is better in snowy conditions (spring is the best IÂīd say)....That scree is really annoying. Also it looks more romantic and fotogenic under the snow cap.
I imagine it would be much easier in the snow! But also harder to find the route ðĪ·ââïļ
@@aStrayLife ItÂīs actually easier. In snowyy conditions you just get the crampons and walk the snow uphil the way you wanna go.th-cam.com/video/ldhuUNucHxs/w-d-xo.html...check out this video
The animal you saw on the ridge was actually a chamois which is an alpine antelope.
Another mammal to eradicate, sadly
Small world lol, I know Kane from uni
Thatâs crazy! Heâs an awesome dude. Was so fun taking him on his first backpacking trip!
tah - poo - eye O ew - eh - nuh - koo.
The O is pronounced like the o in orange. Not an easy kupu.
Itâs a difficult one!
