39 years is way to old for an explosive sport like K1 kickboxing even for Peter Aerts , but Peter was really a very fine champion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Youth over Age. That was the deciding factor. The Japanese was Mentally Fit . Arena in Japan 🇯🇵. I still feel he(Japanese) could pull it off in Holland. Japanese is very much younger and more athletic in reflexes.
Even if he is in his prime the result will still be the same. He fought a fighter who is way faster than him and the accuracy was pure insanity. Peter Aerts was simply outclassed.

Its too much of a drain on someone who never used to cut weight. Also his style works much better with more meat behind it. Its no coincidence he is called The Dutch Lumberjack and not the Butterfly :). Also Kyotaro had very good boxing and counters. He KOed Melvin Manhoef and beat Saki to win the K-1 Heavyweight championship tournament. Another thing to note is Aerts' primary weakness in most of his career were fighters with very fast and aggressive boxing or brawlers i.e. Mike Bernardo, Cyril Abidi, Badr Hari, Le Banner KOed him once after he got complacent.

Agreed...one of the greats but he past his prime and dont have the speed to match it with someone much younger than him.

Kyotaro is a good fighter but i believe Bader hari could knock him out if they ever fought in K1 back then.
