Aww man it’s so hard trying to put yourself in Tom Hank’s character’s shoes and try to think what you would do man… you just want to let him free, but he wanted to go, he didn’t want to feel everyone’s pain anymore and if couldn’t do it and you quit someone else would have done it and they would have been probably so mean to him because of what they say he did so if anyone was gonna do it it might as well be them…. But man how can you kill one of Gods true miracles man an angel. Aw man bro this one makes me cry like a baby too bro I love all yal man I pray everybody can be more like John and the world can just not have anymore of this evil and suffering and unfairness man. Agreed. He was a handful of actors/celebrities that I've really admired and liked as a person and was moved when he passed. By all accounts, he was a really good, gentle and friendly person who appreciated his opportunities. At least a movie like this one will keep his legacy alive and not be forgotten. He was just WAY too young to go.

Mine is when John talks about being as lonely as a robin in the rain. In the book it’s “sparrow in the rain” and for some reason that touches my heart. Also, at the very end, the line “sometimes the green mile seems so long”. This is such a beautiful book and movie…. It must be quite something to get to know Steven King in real life. @@Arfy900yes, I am an atheist, but I consider being a sceptic and humanist more important than being an atheist. I consider my atheism a result of being a sceptic. Isn't it strange how the occurrence of "miracles" has dropped with our ability to accurately and scientifically document them? Did a person that the stories of Jesus were based on actually exist? Probably. Were the stories of his supernatural abilities accurate? Probably not. We have no extra biblical accounts of his "miracles" or resurrection. The whole idea of a god coming to earth incarnate as a man to sacrifice himself in order to forgive humanity for braking rules that he created is ridiculous. Why the need for a human sacrifice? If Jesus was God, what did he really sacrifice? He had one terrible ordeal, and went back to being the all powerful creator of the universe. That's really not a sacrifice.

My grandmother lived to be 98... her mother was 99 when she died... when grandma was in her 80's she told me something that has stuck with me ever since... She told me the older you get the harder it is... everyone you ever care about dies... friends, relatives... you soon find that only the young remain... as it should be... but it gets very hard to see them all go. I remember her saying that to me. And I remember how upset she was when my uncle passed (her eldest son)... and how hard she took it when my mother died (her eldest daughter)... and when my pops died a short while after... she was really upset... and she said to me, a mother should never bury their children. I could see the pain in her eyes... so when her time finally came I was happy for her. I've always told my children it's Quality over Quantity... any and every day of the week. I told them I want you to think about that when you make any decisions about my life. If I can no longer do the things that I enjoy... let me go. Working in healthcare I see death far too often. But I still believe it is Quality over Quantity... and I do understand John... there is too much hate, too much sickness in the world... and it seems to me that it's getting worse all the time... I don't know if that's just me... I know there was a whole lot of ugliness in the world when I was a kid... but we didn't talk about it. But with the way media is today... you can't avoid it. It's everywhere all the time. I just wish more people could just do what I believe in wholeheartedly... Do unto others as you would have them do unto you... tis the most important lesson of the Bible if you ask me. I treat everyone with the same respect and kindness that I would hope they would treat me with... as much as I can help it. We all have our good and bad days... I try to remember that.
This movie always makes me cry... and for some unknown silly reason I keep on watching other people react to it... to see their reaction I don't know... to share in the pain and support you maybe? Perhaps that's it. Perhaps to cry along with you... to let you know we share your feelings.

This is one of the best movies ever filmed. The story, the actors, the score, everything was perfectly done. Award winning performances from everyone. This movie does what a movie is supposed to do, take you on a ride, in this case a highly emotional one. I am a 48 year old man's man and I cry every time I see it and I watch every reaction I find of it. You are 100% correct, it is about quality not quantity. Have a blessed day.

@@captbrownbeard1599 It does at that... and I cry every single time I see it... even if it's cut up a lot in a reaction that I'm watching... I have no idea why I really enjoy watching people react to seeing this movie... probably because I feel it's such a wonderful movie... and so important for people to watch and think about... and talk about. From how we judge other people... to how we look at life itself. Not that I'm against the death penalty because I'm not. There are those who deserve death... IMO but at the same time you really ought to be absolutely certain that they do. And you should NEVER judge a book by it's cover... and this movie demonstrates how just because you see something... it might not really be what you think you are seeing. In the case of John holding those 2 girls and seriously sobbing... he didn't harm them... anyway... Love the movie. Be blessed.

Every reactor that I've seen watching the scene of Dell's execution always says, "Why don't they stop it?" If you listen to the speech they give right before, they specifically say, "...electricity shall be passed through your body until you are dead in accordance to State law." They cannot stop it, or it would be in violation of the law in addition to subjecting the condemned to even more suffering.

    • @samuelvincent557

That is part of it. I think the other part is that he was still alive, and stopping the execution at that point would just be making him live longer with the damage done by the electric burns that were inside and out, at that point.

You have to remember who the writer is.. Stephen King..his genre is supernatural horror...had it been another writer things may have ended differently..when bad Billy showed John what he'd done..if he hadn't been killed by Percy.. John could have shown that to Tom Hanks and a new trial could have been brought...however with Billy dead he couldn't be brought to trial even though the farmer dad could say Billy was there..but there was less of a chance proving guilt..alive and Billy might have admitted to the crime as he was already on death row...

    2. Movie magic: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene.
    3. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but
was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill.
    4. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy. EVERYONE hates him.🤬🤬5. John also rescues the other patients at Briar Ridge.
    6. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP)😇. They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography/angles to make John look taller.
    7. The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder, and he brushed it off.
    8. Now we know what the "leftover is fine" dry toast is for.

What man, in the entire course of Earth's history, did things similar to what John Coffey did?
This was Stephen King's attempt to tell the history in a more modern setting. The guards here are representative of both the Disciples and the Roman soldiers. In a way, I think Percy Wetmore is representative of Judas Iscariot. Or he is a combo of the Jewish priests who thought they were superior to Jesus.
EDIT: just thought about this. The Warden and his wife were representative of Pontias Pilate and his wife.

39:36 A mouse's lifespan can be up to 2 years in ideal conditions. If we take Paul's age when he's old (108 years) and subtract his age from when John was executed (44 years), and put in the fact that a mouse reaches reproductive maturity by 6 weeks, it would mean the mouse is at least 64 years old.

  • @TheDaringPastry1313

John Coffey (JC) had a lot of similarities to Jesus Christ and the story too with his miracles, his followers (apostles), the people that wanted him dead because they didn't understand him and so on. The math is that a wild field mouse like that lives about 2 years, so the mouse is an estimated 64 years old at the end, 32 life spans. So if a mouse can live that long and not be dead, Paul at minimum will live to around 32 (lifespans) x 65 (average age estimate for 1935) is about 2080 years and then some.
