    Oh wow, thanks for the shout out at 1:15:32. Your breakdown of Jacob 2 was excellent and you have made a very compelling case throughout your presentation. You've also brought to the table many observations that I haven't heard of yet like the gospel doctrine manual changing the word "For" to "But" which is very significant. I have also seen language explaining this verse that places the word otherwise at the end such as, "I will command my people otherwise" which also changes the meaning. The biggest problems with this subject are that the amount of information is so vast, the sources vary substantially and regularly contradict one another, and there are so many other important facts are left out.
    Also, we don't seem to realize that Joseph Smith, who translated the Book of Mormon and knew of that vast amount of content that could have been as much as 1 Nephi to the end of Alma, likely knew a great deal more about this topic from Lehi's record and perhaps others that were lost and would have known clearly better than anyone else that it was an abomination.
    Another thing to look into is the specific use of the term "wickedness and abominations." It seems that this term is used with Jacob's people and their practice of taking many wives and concubines along with King Noah, and the people of Jerusalem at the time Lehi left and we know they were practicing this as well along with those in ALL the lands of God's people. We see the phrase occurring many more times throughout the Book of Mormon and I've wondered if this unique phrase is perhaps especially tied in some way to the people taking many wives and concubines.
    Anyway, I'm a little over halfway through but just wanted to share my appreciation for contributing to this topic, you have provided many great resources and presented the information very well.

      Thank you, Steve! Michelle pointed out the "For" >> "[But]" thing, and it blew my mind.
      Also, when I read through the Jacob scriptures during the video, I was going to leave out all the instances of "saith the Lord of Hosts," for brevity, but I believe it was you (correct me if I'm wrong!) who pointed out that that term has significance, so I left it in. Thanks for you contributions!

    Karen, I already knew this would be great, but I'm absolutely stunned at the clear and logical and persuasive way you organized this video.
    The LDS polygamy history, with all of its moving parts, motivations, false "laundry list" persuasion techniques ("there are tons of women that we can list who we were married to Joseph, so it must be true!"), etc., etc., etc. make this an extremely daunting task. And yet you blow holes in all of it with ease, and give compelling reasons why we can ACTUALLY BELIEVE Joseph.

    God bless you. I developed a hypothesis many years ago that Brigham Young had started polygamy and pinned it on Joseph Smith. I thought I was alone out of over 15 million members. Finally thousands and even tens of thousands are coming to learn truth regarding this. Jesus Christ taught "The truth shall set you free." Your work, with that of so many others, like Pamela and Richard Price, Michelle Stone, Jerry Hoop, and so many others, all contributes to bless those who seek truth. Untruths hurt so many, but the truth will set us all free. So many have suffered and have been persecuted for speaking the truth. The humble followers of Christ will recognize truth, and love all those who need the love of those who honestly seek truth and love their fellow men. This is wonderful overview of what has taken me years to learn. May the truth bring people together in love and understanding.

    • @karenhyatt647
      @karenhyatt647  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@anniecrowther8423 Annie, I apologize - your comment got buried, and I'm sorry I'm only now getting back to you.
      There are so many parallels between Brigham and King Noah that I now see them in a very similar light. Both were polygamists, of course. King Noah put down the priests that had been in place before him and replaced them with new ones who were prideful and would support him in his abominations. Brigham was awful to many who were loyal to Joseph, including Sidney Rigdon, William Marks, Emma Smith, Lucy Mack, and Joseph's sons. King Noah heavily taxed his people and lazily glutted himself off their labors. Brigham openly said that every time he picked up a hoe, someone would come along and do the work for him - they just wouldn't let him work! He also told his people that he couldn't pay his personal debts until the people paid their tithing, threatening to put them "to the screw" if they didn't. Yikes. King Noah "did cause his people to commit sin." I could never imagine how a leader could "cause" his people to sin. But Brigham repeatedly told his people that polygamy was necessary to their eternal glory and exaltation and shamed those who didn't participate. Check.
      As far as "keys" and "succession," I look at the example of Alma the elder, who was one of Noah's wicked priests. Not only were the previous priests replaced by Noah (breaking any "chain of authority" as I see it), but I can't imagine it would be necessary for someone as wicked as King Noah to lay hands on Alma in order to confer godly power or authority on him. I just don't believe that God approves of - let alone requires - anything like that from a wicked man in order to impart power. I believe God chose and empowered Alma because of his faith, repentance, and obedience - not because he was in some sort of line of succession.
      So for me, as far as modern leaders, I listen to them and strive to discern truth from error with the help of the Spirit. As Jesus said in reference to true prophets, "ye shall know them by their fruits."
      There's a very long answer after a very long wait - apologies!

      @psmith535 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@anniecrowther8423 I’ve thought about this question many times.
      To be as short and to the point as possible, all of the evidence shows that Brigham was a very bad man and took opportunity in literally hijacking the restored church away from Joseph and Hyrum. The deaths of Joseph, Hyrum and Samuel can all be attributed to the secret combinations of Brigham Young. It’s a fact that Brigham Young was about to be dealt with severely by Joseph once he was released from the Carthage jail. Joseph had become aware that there were many dirty members of the quorum of the 12 apostles and he had been made aware of some things they were teaching while in Carthage jail. Joseph told Emma that upon his release, he would square things with the newspaper regarding misinformation that had been printed, then he planned to deal directly with Brigham Young regarding his false teachings of polygamy and spiritual wifery secretly being taught among certain members.
      When you understand that Joseph and Hyrum were literally murdered by Willard Richards, the nephew of Brigham Young, and John Taylor, the successor of Brigham‘s church after his death, you should be able to see very clearly that these were not godly men, and that they could never have been called by God to be prophetic leaders of his church.
      The day Joseph and Hyrum were murdered the restored church fell into complete apostasy.
      Brigham Young started his own church out of the ashes, while trying to disguise it as the same church, Joseph restored.
      The church that Nephi, Isaiah, Moroni and other prophets, warn us about in these latter-day‘s, the church that would rob the poor, the church that would have leaders with hard hearts, stiff necks, and would be puffed up, the church that would teach false, vain and foolish doctrines, the one that would commit whoredom‘s and priestcrafts, the one that would have large and spacious buildings adorned with the finest materials, is literally the LDS church today. The church is approaching nearly $300 billion in assets yet gives very little to feed the poor or clothe the naked. Instead, it bails out its own insurance company, built a lavish shopping mall and invests in hotels and commercial real estate throughout the world.
      Even with hundreds of billions of dollars the advice is still given over the pulpit today that “if you are faced with a decision to buy food or to pay tithing, you should always pay your tithing”.
      It should be obvious to all that the LDS church corporation today is completely off track and apostate, and is absolutely not the same church that Joseph restored to the earth.

    I just found Michelle Stone through the Cwic media podcast and was so intrigued. Mary Rollins Lightner is my ancestor. I have read her journal entries and was always so confused by the account of the angel and the sword. I wish that would have been included in this video. Where did this story come from? I grew up believing it.
    I really enjoyed this documentary and it clearly shows that there are way too many question marks to portray the certainty that the church does on Joseph Smith polygamy!
    Listening to Jennifer Finlayson Fife has also been a huge inspiration to me. She explains how polygamy can not and does not allow true intimacy in marriage, eternal spiritual growth or progression. Paraphrasing her words… If God is who we think, a loving God completely dedicated to our eternal progression… polygamy can’t be apart of it.

      I REEEALLY wanted to include the angel with the drawn sword, but the documentation on where it came from was just all over the place. I thought Mary was the first to claim it, but then I saw that some newspaper article by someone hostile to the church actually claimed it much earlier on. But yes, that's one of my top 5 regrets of things I just couldn't find a way to fit in!
      You've probably already read lots of autobiographical sketches from Mary, but I do have a link to the extracts of her autobiography as published in the Utah Genealogical and Historical Magazine on my website. So on the off-chance that you haven't read them, they're pretty entertaining! (Nothing about the angel in there, though, unfortunately!)

      Brigham was obsessed with Adam hence the Adam God theory and I'm sure used the term "angel with a drawn sword" often since that phrase was used when casting out Adam and eve from the garden.
      Many "revelations" back then included that phrase for what seems like dramatic effect. I haven't read where Joseph used it but I've read where others have. I don't believe any of the revelations using those words because they don't make sense and completely contradict what was going on. In other words the dudes used it to look powerful 😅

I think people who justify polygamy and insist on ignoring the women who were/are destroyed by this practice have lost touch with their understanding of what authentic intimacy is it supposed to look like. Kimball, Orson Pratt and the others in high positions remind me a bit of Chad Daybell - just fat, old, bald men who think they are somehow special and can have as many wives or have sex with multiple women because they have special powers and keys. This documentary is such an eye opener, and so well presented! I'm so happy Joseph and Emma are getting a voice, this should be shared with everyone and everywhere!! Our gospel was never founded on polygamy, its a dirty stain brought about by nasty old men, and I hope they will be accountable for all the pain and suffering they caused so many women!

      I'm sure they will be, and I'm pretty sorry for them. Gwendolyn Wyne pointed out that Brigham lost his mother at a young age and lost his first wife early on as well. I wonder if he suffered from feelings of abandonment. Who knows. But it stirred up some compassion in me, and I was thankful. I really like your comment about giving Joseph & Emma a voice. It's sad that they've been squelched for so long - thank heavens we're now able to look at what they actually said. Thank you for the kind words! 💜

    -Many don't know that Willard Richards is Brigham's cousin.
    -That Brigham claimed having a vision regarding polygamy while on his mission in England before Joseph ever allegedly presented polygamy to him. Yet later Brigham would claim he desired death when Joseph presented polygamy to him.
    -William Clayton, Willard Richards, Heber Kimball were all with Brigham in England when he had that vision. (thick as thieves)
    -William Clayton's Manchester Journal page 145. April 25th 1840. William Clayton defends Jacob and David having many wives. Completely contrary to Jacob in the Book of Mormon
    They hatched their plan for polygamy in England with no oversight or influence from Joseph. They brought women from England to America, some leaving their husbands and arriving destitute and susceptible to the lies of these men, as a means of survival. Joseph put a stop to it (why would he do that if he was involved) Joseph instituted the RS in part to protect these women from men who would use their desperate situation to seduce them (again why would he do it if he was involved?) As soon as Joseph died Brigham shut down the RS and as stated in this video took many plural wives while still in Nauvoo even though Nauvoo was so dangerous the Mormons had to flee. How does this make any sense? Joseph was jailed and killed as a result of the Expositor revealing his alleged polygamy. Polygamy was allegedly kept secret to avoid persecution. Yet after polygamy being exposed and Joseph's killed Brigham and Heber felt safe enough to take multiple wives. Mind-blowing, unless your research has revealed the truth then it all makes sense.

    Very well done. And it makes sense! So much of traditional beliefs and excuses for polygamy never felt right, especially for women. This strengthens my testimony in Joseph Smith. It’s too bad that this false teaching wasn’t addressed and condemned by leaders decades ago. It’s amazing that we’re in the year 2024 and still not hearing our leaders explain that it was wrong then and forever will be, even if that means bad mouthing those past leaders that promoted it. It’s okay, and would be a relief, to hear our current prophet just say they were wrong and caused decades of harm to the church that continues today. Wow, awesome Karen, you did a wonderful job presenting the truth that the saints that came West who entered polygamy were filled with lies, lies and more lies. These "lies" are the "foundation" of Brigham Church, Its not the Lords Church, its Brigham's Church and the Lord has this to say about it:
    Behold, I am Alpha and Omega, even Jesus Christ.
    61 Wherefore, let all men beware how they take my name in their lips-
    62 For behold, verily I say, that many there be who are under this condemnation, who use the name of the Lord, and use it in vain, having not authority.
    63 Wherefore, let the church repent of their sins, and I, the Lord, will own them; otherwise they shall be cut off.
    64 Remember that that which cometh from above is sacred, and must be spoken with care, and by constraint of the Spirit; and in this there is no condemnation, and ye receive the Spirit through prayer; wherefore, without this there remaineth condemnation.
    (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 63:60 - 64) Revelation given August 1831
    And your minds in times past have been darkened because of unbelief, and because you have treated lightly the things you have received-
    55 Which vanity and unbelief have brought the whole church under condemnation.
    56 And this condemnation resteth upon the children of Zion, even all.
    57 And they shall remain under this condemnation until they repent and remember the new covenant, even the Book of Mormon and the former commandments which I have given them, not only to say, but to do according to that which I have written-
    (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 84:54 - 57) Revelation given Sept 22 1832
    For the kingdom of the devil must shake, and they which belong to it must needs be stirred up unto repentance, or the devil will grasp them with his everlasting chains, and they be stirred up to anger, and perish;
    20 For behold, at that day shall he rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.
    21 And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well-and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell.
    22 And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell;
    (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 28:19 - 22)
    Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!
    25 Wo be unto him that crieth: All is well!
    (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 28:24 - 25)
    What song did the Saints sing on the way WEST to SLC Utah? "Come Come Ye Saints" "All is well," All is well." This is fulfillment of prophecy from our own Book of Mormon! I hope the Church repents, if not collectively at least individually! I am still a member and have repented of propagating the lie that the prophet Joseph Smith was a teacher and practiced polygamy and that D&C 132 is false doctrine and is not in harmony with D&C 42 "embracing the law of the church," that man should only have one wife and cleave unto her and none else!

    I do however wish we could get rid of the bad explanation for Jacob 2:30.
    It really is quite simple. 29&30 are the peak of the chiasm so there are two thought forms in each verse that mirror one another.
    #1) If God will call people to be HIS people then he will give them commandments.
    #2) if said people choose to disobey God’s commands, then God will curse them.
    We don’t need to break the chiasm to make sense of verse 30 nor do we need to reach back 7 verses to define what “these things” means because the definition comes from the verse before.

    One other piece of evidence about Joseph and Emma's feelings on monogamy is the old hymnbook compiled by Emma. In that book there is a "section" on Marriage that contains only one song. It is so beautiful about Adam and Eve and explains the whole plan about husband and wife cleaving to each other. It has been included in the RLDS hymnbook for sometime I believe.
