    Well spotted!
    Yes we had a malfunction on the thrust reversers (T/R), which was rectified immediately after the flight. The T/R's are - as you can imagine - very well protected against an inadvertently deployment in flight. A lot of safety features are built in. The T/R's did not deploy in time, but this is not a problem, because all landing distance numbers are calculated without the use of thrust reverses.
    Happy Landings,
    Guido

    One of the things I always enjoy about your videos is the CRM and interactions between you and your FOs. Always relaxed, yet very professional and duties are obviously clearly defined. I'm betting your coworkers are always happy to know they'll be flying with you.

    I once made that same approach into Smyrna while accompanying a non-instrument pilot to St. Louis. He was not my student but I offered to go along under my ticket just for the fun of it.
    Weather there was fairly clear but his wife in back would not shut up. I even mentioned "sterile cockpit" and quiet during the approach. Nope. I had to get him to say something to her. On into a snowy St. Louis, visibility was low on that ILS and she was talking again.
    I love the isolation switch!

    Excellent ATC letting you know that there is an area of heavy precipitation FOUR miles!! ahead.....it would have been nice to come up with one of your red subtitles/remarks pointing out to that obvious lack of situational awareness.
    Sorry if I sound harsh but after all, you are the one putting yourself under the spotlight and making this video sound and look somehow an educational tool.

      flxsrsathr For sure we scanned the radar and were aware of the location & intensity of cells and precipitation.

      Standing water on the runway makes it easier to do smooth landing. But there is an elevated risk of hydroplaning.
      The the best practice is to do a firm landing in these condition.

    ... the bleed air ducts in front of the windshields, outside. Quite effective. Also used to prevent the fogging up when descending from high altitude into a moist environment. Typical: flight to Florida. From FL430 down to sea level with a lot of moisture.

    CRM is a challenge in the small aicraft flying. Most of us pilot come from a single pilot environment. It takes discipline to learn CRM, to integrate the other crew member and work as a team. The benefits are obvious.

    Looked like you fought the TR levers for a bit. I've seen that problem quite a bit on the 560 series Citations. Shop I work at is a citation repair station as well. Safe flying!!

    • @GuidoWarnecke
      @GuidoWarnecke  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Isaac,
      seems to be a common problem. The TR's are well protected NOT to deploy in flight. So sometimes you struggle to get them out after landing.
      Here a link to my latest video, CJ1.
      No TR's only ground flaps (60 degrees).

    Thanks! Upper two light: reversers armed (hydraulic pressure applied). Middle 2 lights ("four lights in total): reversers unlocked. And the last row of lights (that makes it "six lights": reversers are deployed. The system is well protected to protect them from being deployed inadvertently. Happy Landings, Guido

    Ranferi, that is a good question!
    Small piston airplanes do not need windshield wipers because the propeller blows the rain off. Twin engine airplanes often have a wiper, because there is no propeller in the middle. In the jet, the landing speeds are around 100 kts, that is enough to keep the windscreen clean. We have "rain deflectors" in the Citation which we never use because they do not retract properly.

    Well done! It amazes me even as only a virtual pilot how stressful a restricted visibility ILS approach is. I can't imagine what it might be like for real.

    • @GuidoWarnecke
      @GuidoWarnecke  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you.
      i would not call it stressful but it certainly requires full attention, even with the degree of automation and autopilot.
      Thanks for watching my videos & happy landings,

    Hi Austin,
    thanks for your kind words.
    Before any recording of videos I have to ensure that this does not affect the flight safety whatsoever.

    Excellent. If you're ever back in town and want to bore holes in the sky in a 1967 C-172 (with stock paint and panel :) ), I'm your man! It ain't pretty, but she does 7 gal/hr and flies like a dream! Enjoying the vids!

    I agree completely. Guido's videos are addictive. I'm fortunate to be just finishing a home theater with a big HD projection screen. The videos look AMAZING projected at 110" diagonal!
    My only wish would be for the GoPro to somehow operate at a shutter speed that would allow the instruments to read more clearly. In this video, once they were fairly low and the camera adjusted for lower light, the digital displays were much more visible, and it was really nice.

    Guido Warnecke my hometown is Smyrna! I was wondering when I'd see KMQY pop up in my constant aviation browsing. Small world, my mom was the receptionist for John Black and the Airport Authority for years, and my dad is a Captain at JetBlue.

    Enjoyed that! Smyrna is about 10 miles from my house and I sometimes play at the Smyrna Municipal golf course which is right next to the airport (which is what I believe you flew right over on your approach to 32).
