Yes! Uniquely talented. Jon Christensen was one of my favs also. Sadly he passed a few years ago. Both these drummers played with Jan Garbarek. And both have a distinctive sound.
@@brserralheiro Omg dude, can't you just respect people's opinions. You know drummers shouldn't even be compared to each other to begin with, every one has their own unique style.
I made the same comment several weeks ago. I keep coming back to this vid, those toms - wow! And the way he weaves those heavy tuneful bottoms with super fast, light splash cymbal sync is unique and totally awesome. One of a kind.
I had the thrill of seeing Manu Katche with Sylvian Luv and Richard Bona during the Montreal Jazz festival back in 2010, in a smallish theatre...maybe 400 people? It was truly a spiritual event.
Oh, I was there too !! :D The Gesù in Montreal ! I think Bona and Luc were out of this world. Katche, however, seemed to be a little out of his domain that night, like he was not able to get to Luc's and Bona's level.
I love the tom tuning, so low, even and round. Looks like he is running racks of 8x12, 9x13? Old school, more players these days go 7x10 and 8x12. Could be wrong, but amazing full tone.
Quel talent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All personal choice man. Some people like crunchy, lower tunings. I personally would tune them differently, but I also haven't played for Peter Gabriel and Sting, so....who cares haha XD
Great stuff from Manu yet again. I did some work for the Peter Gabriel tour in 1992 and listen to Manu's fills on this track (come talk to me) from the live sessions (th-cam.com/video/T7GRBHoTUbg/w-d-xo.html). His fills are mainly at 3:32 and 5:02 minutes in but the whole track is fab.
would love it if those toms were a bit muted...too much resonance for my tastes, making the whole solo sound sloppy.....the reason why i love Dave weckl...can play better than god and also be better than god at the technical aspects and sound balancing of drumming. ONE COHESIVE UNIT but it could also be my high end audio system pissed at me !
hahah hahahha. How much is you sponsorship contract worth? I see the Renatto Mazaella signature snares on ebay are going for $1, and the seller pays the shipping.
Ever since "So", I've been a fan of Manu Katche'
Manu has always been one of the most unique, gifted, tasteful, musical, soulful, creative, energetic, technically masterful drummers I have ever heard.

Beautiful!! Manu is the reason I still have my 1998 Yamaha beech custom kit! “Pear yellow” of course.
One of my favorite drummers
He is amazing! His work with sting was epic
Epic? Omar Hakim

So this is the guy who did the superb drumming on Sting's best song, 'All This Time'!
My favorite drummer - I always loved how he incorporated his splash cymbals in his work.
The best tom sounds I have ever heard!

I think they are 12,13,16, 14x5 and 22. I love the old school sizes also. I like tuning my toms low. Yamaha's sound awesome.

Over puissance !
Juste un bonheur!!
So clean how has never been invited to do Zildjian Live?

Taste, tone...and a dash of percussive joy make for an interesting solo.
Beautiful sound he gets from his kit.
Pour moi un des meilleurs TOP 5
These kind of solos are indeed ‘oldschool’ but is always interesting to watch!
...and by 'oldschool,' you mean dynamics, musicality, touch, feel, phrasing, rhythmic compositions, and serious chops, I agree!
These kind of comments are indeed ’oldschool’ but are always interesting to read!
the man has been performing literally the same solo his entire career because it's just that damn good. his touch is phenomenal.
like Gadd

Le patron !
He's not just a drummer. He's also a painter! No one else will get that deep tribal sound of of the drums.
so musical
Respect.
No one sound like this
Bro which Lenny White are you listening to ?
He's a great player. Either the audio eq is not great or his toms are tuned a bit too low...He's still great!

I love the tom sound, love it! They sound thunderous and organic, and both of us are right!
His Toms sound amazingly huge
Camera editors don't need to be Michael Bay
Sting, Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock...
Need I say more...?
