Do you have the Sony 85mm f1.8? What are your thoughts about it?
I have and you can't miss with it. Always great pictures. I have the Sigma f1.4 now (also great) and I am giving the f1.8 to my girlfriend.
I had it but since 2 years I own the 85mm 1.4 GM much better!
No, the Sony non-G/GM lenses is known for varying assemble build quality and can vary in image quality, so I recently got the excellent Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 used for US$550 (taxes included) and it will last for many years !
I just got this lens and I've been kind of hating it. Every time there is a bright light it creates horizontal stripes all over the image.
That doesn't sound right. Wondering if there is an issue with the lens, or maybe the sensor needs a clean. Let me know how you go with it@@EpicMotionProduction
I sold mine and then went back to it lol. I LOVE this lens.
Haha good call. I think I’d regret selling mine.
This is your best video yet!
I remember when you first got the 85mm - and you shot photos of me for my 30th ❤ 4 years ago haha
Wow, that seems like such a long time ago.
Your video quality keeps improving Jem!
Thanks David 🙏 Appreciate you watching them
Great stuff Jem!
Thanks Brad 🙏🏻
... just bough it!!! I was thinking and doing research about this lens for quite some time. Thanks for the video Jem!
Hey congrats! It’s a fantastic lens and really good value for what it’s capable of.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy your new lens 🙌
Just bought one 10/23. Value choice plus I'm using the aCii and wanted light / compact 85 for travel!
That’s a great combo!
I have same cam and just bought one but it has SUPER BAD purple fringing??
Well. With the 50mm f1.2 GM you get optical near perfection over the frame wide open! I'd love the 50mm sony-zeiss f1.4 ZA, but I'll be getting a used one of these 85mm f1.8 at last for a fraction of the price..along with my used tamron zoom.
You have a great channel mate. You gotta make more shorts if you wanna make your account get more public interaction. Hope this helps.❤
Thanks Luka. I appreciate the feedback. I'm working on bringing more content. Finding the balance between paid work, family and creating.
Hi, thank you for your video! I am wondering wich lens(es) would be the best option for shooting children portraits in a smaller room (3 meter length) on Sony A III cause I can't decide which one to buy. Thank you for your help!
For something like that I'd look at a 50 or a 35mm. Or a 24-70. 3m room doesn't give you much room to play with. Even 50mm will be tight but gives nice compression ideal for portraits.
I have Sigma 85mm prime and its stunning. I'd love to see how it compares to the Sony. I use it for my A-cam in shoots! :D
Thanks!
I used to have the FE 85mm. It was a good lens, but mine suffered from pretty bad chromatic aberration wide open at f1.8. I currently daily drive the Sigma 24-70 f2.8, but I am thinking about picking up the 85mm f1.4 from Sigma too. I believe the 85mm focal length is the best!
Just bought 1 this year!
How are you finding it?
I have 90mm 2.8 is there significant difference compared to this one ? Thanks
The 90mm can be used for portrait photography and other styles but being a specific macro lens it does prioritise macro first. So the quality of other styles will be slightly better on the 85mm
Someone else spoke of the compression of the GM lens compared to the 85 f/1.8., well with the new features in Lightroom (Blurr) that to can be achived w/Bokeh in MHO... so lets just say as the software changes to acommadate the lens good cheaper version will be well worth the purchase.
Totally agree. With AI and software continually advancing it gives a lot more tools available to help creative people be even more creative with what they have access to.
Dropped mine yesterday and got a visible dent on the black plastic cover near the gasket 😅 but other than that, it works pretty fine 😅
Phew imagine if it didn’t work. Glad it’s still working.
thanks
I bought one. Excellent lens.
Sure is!
I started watching this video to convince me not to buy the 24-70 GMii and just buy the much cheaper 85mm. Think I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and get the GMii
I take full responsibility haha. You honestly won’t regret it. The 24-70GMii is a fantastic lens.
I've owned the 85mm 1.8 a couple of times. The first time I sold it when I bought the 85mm GM lens. And I just recently reacquired it to make a small kit with three primes. The other two lenses being the 20mm G, the 50mm 1.4 GM, along with the 85mm 1.8. This will be my mid size kit with the A7CII.
I have same camera what small sharp lenses do you recommend and any zoom, my f1.8 85 has seriously bad purple chromatic abberatins) fringing on edge of every photo
@@PuReXtremeGaming There's definitely something not right there. The Sony 85mm 1.8 is an excellent lens, particularly for the price. If you don't want to try another copy of the 85mm, the Sigma DG DN Contemporary lenses are small, sharp, and relatively inexpensive. Just don't expect GM IQ when stopped all the way down.
@@PhotoTrekr thanks. Oddly teh guy who sold it to me swapped to the sigma, maybe he had this purple fringing
@@PhotoTrekr he denies having it btw
I Love My Sony FE 85mm F1.8 Lens I Keep It On My Sony a7Riv Only Lens I Can Afford atm lol And With my Sony a7iv I keep my 24-70 F4 :) I do Switch But 95 percent of the time that is how I keep my set up
That’s a great setup. What are you thinking of buying next?
@@jemlang 24-70 G Master (Once I Start Working Again, I'm A School Bus Driver) I Must Save Up Now :)
I got the tokina 85mm f1,8. It’s better in anyway
