I had a 78 Winnebago Minnie Winnie with the 360 motor, totally reliable for years, just keep your foot off that accelerator whilst cranking. Get in cold, two pumps on the pedal, foot off, crank. It started every time no matter what the weather.
Chrysler cars back then had such unique sounding starters. I worked with a girl once who had a 1972 Dodge Charger. She said when her car was cranking it sounded like it was "playing a tune."
Ah, the joy of priming a dry fuel system. Spun it over to get gas to the carb and hope the battery holds out. The ol' Highland Park Hummingbird had to work overtime on that one.
I have wondered if the fuel drains back and I have to prime the whole system. This vehicle hates me but loves my wife. She has driven it thousands of miles and I can't even get it out the driveway without issues.
i have a 1978 dodge tioga 16,6 with a 318 in it, it sat all winter and when i tried to start it i think i fried the starterm i decided to replace the ignition system and just ordered a starter from RockAuto (great prices BTW). going to put new battery cables in because the originals are just too beat up. last year i took it on an 2200 mile trip first time out and was expecting the worst but only problem i had was went through 5 qts of oil and had to top off the brake fluid a couple of times. i'm hoping it will start once i put the new starter in so i can set the timing on the new distributor and i need to pick up a new ignition capacitor
American Clipper (Irv Perch) sure liked using 440s. Haven't seen a small block one yet. Not sure they offered it for the Clipper. At least not the Dodge version. Mine is a 1979 with a 440.
@@muddyudders Excellent.. I'm glad to hear it! I know with the 57 Chevy pickup in mud, we'd often apply the emergency break which seemed to help sometimes.
It was a great vehicle it just hated men. It would start right up for my wife every time. She drove it home from San Diego to Redding California. Not an issue except for clipper hot foot.
I miss my Uncle's ol' American Clipper Motorhome. He has the exact same one as yours. Been hoping to find the new owner of it and buy it back. Can't remember the plate # though, hope that it isn't totaled.
@SkeletonKeyFarms find a local car show and talk to people who own Dodge's . Small mom and pop businesses are where I have taken mine when I was too busy to work on it. The engine is a normal engine it is just really crammed in a tight space.

@@muddyudders You know why I DON'T have any "content"? IT'S BECAUSE I HAVE A LIFE!!!!!! Now go out and get a damn JOB SON!!!!!!!!!!!! (and go call your mother, she's getting on in years and you KNOW we won't have her FOREVER!!!)
It's a motorhome, NOT a van. The chassis were built before the coach, and not designated a year until completion. I have a 1978 Brave, Dodge M-400 chassis with the floor plan of a '79 Winnebago, with the coach designated as 1980. And yes, two different V.I.N.s
Man, oh man, the sound of that starter is amazing!
I have the Coronet also but it starts easily so you don't get to hear the starter cranking for long.
Those sound great too!
mmm I love the sound of those old starters. Nice video sir!
Thank you.

This thing hated me. My wife never had a problem. Needless to say her cold start video would have been quite boring.
Hey I have a 1978 Minnie Winnie I have never used the generator could you do a video on how to start the generator?

What an awesome cold start video. Please make more like this! So cool!
Thank you!, this was video number 100 please share it. I'm wanting to up my subscriber count.
muddyudders done! Please make more with that view. So cool to see what you’re doing during startup. I have a feeling this video will be very popular.
I love your old dodge van!!👍😍👍😉
Man I really enjoyed watching you try to get it started. If you only knew..
Thanks!!
Perfect view during startup. Please make more
Beautiful man thanks look forward more
This video's too good not to watch over and over.
This guy is gold

I love rock auto. They were the only place I could find brushes for a VW alternator. Everyplace else wanted to sell me the whole alternator.

We just sold it. Sail away Clipper.
I've seen some videos where they had the smaller motor.
going to start my 440 here soon!! I need a new battery!
I have 1977 of these any idea were the fule filter is can't find it for the life of me
I believe it was after the mechanical fuel pump at the front passenger side of the engine below the alternator.
Never underestimate American Iron is right! :-). Thanks and hope you goter unstuck!
I did after some digging and adding gravel in front of the tires.

Not sad, we were neglecting it and it's new owner is a mopar guy so he is in hog heaven. I have a 67 coronet 500 project that needs some attention.

If he was a police officer in San Diego this one may have been the one. Thanks for the comment, and good luck on your search.

I need a starter for a motorhome like yours, but I don't know how to order it in the store !!!!!
My American clipper no start 🥺
It is a Dodge B300 Van. Order parts for your year
Do you know anyone who can work on these vehicles I need help!
What is wrong? Most any mechanic shop can work on motor issues.
@@muddyudders no one is willing to since it’s an rv and the rv places won’t touch it because it’s got a carborator

That's not a 1978. 1978 Dodge vans have different dash and marker lights.

Stop "holding it to the floor". Pump the shit out of it then crank with closed throttle. Less air makes the fuel go much further
Fuel delivery problem, bad gas
