Hey Uncle Steve, Buckin" needs to watch your video on lawn mower tipping, is it kinda like cow tipping? And how come he hit that root now? How many times has he missed it? Murphy's law: I'm gonna mow the lawn, what could go wrong? Eh friends? Hey? Thanks Uncle Steve!!!!! You da man!!!!
Thank you sir for this great tip. Yesterday I was mowing my lawn and the lawn mower stopped all of the sudden. I tried so many times to re-start, but I couldn't because the pull rope got stuck. After so many tries I got tired and gave up. Today I searched on the internet for help and found your video. I paused your video and got so excited where you tipped the mower and I saw the big rock under there. I ran outside to where I left my mower yesterday and started to tip it over. OMG! I found the culprit! There was a big clump of grass covering the blade. I am so grateful for your information sir. Thank you thank you thank you!!! and God bless.
Thanks for your great advice ; ) One time i couldn't pull my rope on the my tiller after i had loaned it to a friend . My first thought was he blew the engine . Come to figure out he had transported it on the side which allowed oil to flood the cylinder and made it hydro lock. All i had to do was remove the spark plug and pull it several times and clean oil off spark plug . Man did it smoke when it finally start . Needless to say i don't loan tools to that guy any more but we are still friends after i told him what happened . Cheers ; )
After watching the top ten hateful and angry replies…I’m hooked…we love you…I’ve learned so much from the videos you have posted…having a cold SOL beer…cheers brother…south Texas loves you…
Dang, you are awesome. I did what you said and was shocked at the amount of grass underside. After I used a putty knife to scrape it all off I flipped it over and it fired up on 2nd pull. Thank you thank you
Boy, am I glad I found Steve's!! I flipped my lawnmower over, and, sure, enough, there was some type of material wrapped very tightly between the blade and the deck. I removed it, turned the blade a little, then pulled the cord, and it worked. Thank you for this video. Saved me some money and a lot of embarrassment.
Absolutely. The many times Ive had customers come to me with this sort of issue and it only took seconds to sort out. I haven't actually come across many genuinely siezed lawn mower engines to be honest. Great vid 👍👍
D’oh! THANK YOU!!!! I was 3 seconds away from taking a sledgehammer to my mower. And it was just that I hadn’t engaged the brake handle after replacing the starter rope. THANK YOU!!!
Homie, this was awesome I thought I was going to have to do a whole bunch of stuff Thank you man Thank you for making those video may the Lord blessing protect and keep you I really appreciate you taking the time to do this and deep down from inside I just want to express my gratitude Thank you🎉
I LOVE how you always say I hope this will help some one, I do the same on my tiny channel. I learned that from you Steve, you are a fine man. Best of wishes to all. :)
Single moms everywhere thank you for this tip. Seen this happen alot when I'm done mowing and not wash the mower so the grass doesn't dry into giant globs and clog stuff up.
thank you Steve....I have one where the cord will not pull anymore....and it appears to be seized....now I can go out and disconnect the spark plug ...turn it over and see if build up has it locked down or if it is tangled in the plastic part that keeps things from slinging out the back onto our bodies.......now I will see pulling the lawnmower back....will cause that plastic back piece to pull up under the engine........your a gem....I will be tickled shi***** if I can remove something from the bottom and start her up.....Hugs and Kisses to all you guys that record this stuff......major help..............I LUV TH-cam FOR EVERYTHING>
Steve, sometimes common sense isn't as common as it used to be .I think it's great that you offer a refresher course. Like you said, "think before you panic".
Phew! Dodged a bullet there, huh? Glad I could save you from that headache and repair bill. Remember, I'm here to make your life easier and more entertaining!
An eldely neighbor gave me his old lawn vac / chipper since he wasn't using it anymore. I'd never seen one before and didn't know anything about them. The second time I went to run it the pull rope stuck. The blade mechanism is encased and not visible from the bottom but after watching your video I pulled off the bag and could get to it. I found the piece of branch that was jamming the blade, removed it and the lawn vac fired right up. Thanks!
Thank you . Thank you! My starter cord, out of nowhere, locked up ! Turned it on its side and saw a clump of dry grass caught in the blade! Cleared it out and Whalah!! 👍🏼
Did this at the weekend lol, pi**ed for about ten seconds then saw all the wet grass stuck in it :) have a cool day, love the advice in your vids, you made me laugh with the little demo trying to start the mower, was probably exactly how I looked... all annoyed and over animated :)
You just saved me a heart attack my friend! I assumed the worst when my lawn mower wouldn't pull yesterday. Turned it over and it the blade was blocked with a solid chunk of grass. Now I know to clean my deck more often!
Hi Steve i work at my local Lowe's home improvement store and i have counted at least 12 to 14 Craftsman push mowers returned all seized solid over the spring season some of them just days old i believe people are not putting the correct amount of oil in the crankcase or leaving the oil fill cap loose and sometimes i have customers bring their mowers to figure out why they won't start and they just forget to pull the handles out to the correct position.
Nowadays......another Distinct possibility is, well......"Craftsman" ! They sure Don't put out Quality like the used to ! Even 90% of their tools are "outsourced" now. Sad...!
Thank you for walking is through. I should’ve listened and watched the other video first because I fixed the issue but gas spilled out now I’m scared to start it😅
My son didn't clean out the grass underneath after the last time he mowed. Today It was like concrete. Got it cleaned out and things are working perfectly. Thanks for your help.
Great common sense tips to check before the dreaded is there any oil in it.As I watched this my last customer of the day brought down a lawnmower that would not pull over, I tipped up he had the two handle ends pushed down to the point the blade was jammed against it, did not have wing bolts through handle on the ends..So quick fix and will make his day.As an independent shop owner got to say well done videos to the point and I am sure your audience thinks the same.
Hey👋SteveO, just pressure washed the underneath side of my zero today, tomorrow the blades come of to be sharpened! Getting old cutting the lawn twice just to get an even cut🤣🤣🤣 Blade sharpening...hmm🤔 AWESOME VID my friend!!! Jay.
Love the videos of how to, I need one on my Stihl saw that won't pull over new saw that I bought and haven't had to use much at all. I hope I didn't ruin it from leaving it sit for too long and not using it. Thanks for your time.
You always remind me of that guy Worley from Officer and a Gentleman. So when I watch your videos that song, Love lifts us up where we belong, gets stuck in my head. Lol.
Or,… I pulled the spark plug, tried to free blade and it was turning hard. I turned it over to see if it was blocked. Not blocked, just turning hard. Tipped it back over, cleaned up the oil and gas cuz I’m a rookie and left the caps off, then began the breakdown to find the cause. One turn of a socket on the top center bolt (no idea what it’s called) and it broke free. I thought I loosened the nut but I freed the blade. Put the pull cord back on and it the pull cord was working. Started up on 2nd pull. Thanks for your video, especially on how to tip it over (with gas and oil cap tightened). Can’t wait to mow the lawn!
Just had this happen to a friends tractor last weekend. I happened to be there working on something else when I heard her repeatedly starting up the tractor then stalling it out when she turned on the PTO. I finally dropped what I was doing, went out there and asked her if she checked under the deck for stuck grass holding the blades back. She says “Well of course I did! This thing is broken again and has to go to back the shop”. I took a quick look under the deck, giant clump of grass jamming up the blades. Cleaned it out, mower is just fine, she says “Oh, well I didn’t check that side, just the side with the chute!”. 🙄
Steve Please answer...I'm asking here because it's your latest video, Can you do a video on the two big natural gas/propane conversion kits that everyone's using today, The first is a rather large regulator unit, these kits run as high as 300 bucks Then there's the 30 dollar Amazon tri-fuel carbs that I'm in love with, There are a lot of misunderstandings about differences, The cheap one from Amazon only handles low pressure after a regulator, and works perfectly, Propane can be stored for ten years and run perfectly, Natural gas is on tap, gasoline starts to go stale in 30 days.
I recently purchased a new lawnmower for an early Father's Day gift. It's an MTD yard machines Powermore 132cc engine 21" deck. Anyway, I noticed it has a sticker on it which says SAE 10W-30 on it, but it came with SAE 30 oil included with the manual. The manual has a little chart showing different types of oil, but I am not certain which is best to use. Seems like the chart says that 10W-30 is the least one should use, with SAE 30 as the best, but just wanting another opinion.
Hi Steve I enjoy all your videos one day maybe if you have time if you can give your opinion on the justrite gas cans I bought my first i gal. can and now I have all the sizes I love them.
One more quick thing to check is pull your spark plug out. Gas overflowing into the cylinder will hydro lock the piston (liquids do not compress like air). Now, pull the starter rope. If the engine spins and gas shoots out, you need to rebuild your carburetor. I'd also change the oil, too, since gas can leak past the rings into the crankcase. *** NOTE: obviously this comment is for the viewers. Steve already knows all of this ;) **
@@johnanderson3746 If you pull the starter rope and gas shoots out of the spark plug hole, what has happened is that the gas is getting past the float needle in the carburetor and overflowing into the cylinder through the intake. If left long enough, this gas will seep past the rings, into the crankcase and into the oil. Rebuilding the carburetor fixes the issue with the float sticking and or the needle not sealing properly in the float seat. You should also change the oil if gas has in fact seeped into the crankcase.
My Craftsman LT2000 Tractor Steering wheel was off center by a lot. So, I removed the steering wheel cover and was unbolting it from the column, when suddenly the column dropped out. I managed to pull the column up and hold it with my left hand and bolted the steering wheel back on with my right hand. I could then turn the steering wheel left and right now, but the front wheel of my tractor wasn't responding. Well yes, I didn't know what was going on, and I hit the panic button and had to walked away from it. Took time and checked out my Tractor's Manual for a diagram and talked to a friend while picking his brain. Two hours pasted and I walked out to the garage to rework the steering mechanism and this time I assembled it correctly and noticed a hole thru the column where a retainer pin was required. It suppose to hold the column up to a fixed height, if you go and remove the steering wheel. A temporary retainer pin was made, until the one I ordered comes in. It just goes to show you, sometimes you just need to walk away from it for awhile ... A second look counts.
A giant fan of your videos. Appreciate your style. My mower is hard to pull on first pull only. Pull 2, it fires up. It also happens after the engine is warm. (Shut down to open/close a gate) etc... Any thoughts?
That's exactly what I was thinking to do, except for thinking maybe the starter mechanism was jammed. I was also thinking that the blade sure needs sharpening!
Good to know but what if it's your weed eater and you have a attachment disconnect and both of them are rotating would it be your pull cord bound up as this happened to me last week on someone I work for weed eater but didn't have time to check it out further looking for your reply Kraig from Washington State

Steve Please answer...I'm asking here because it's your latest video,
Can you do a video on the two big natural gas/propane conversion kits that everyone's using today,
The first is a rather large regulator unit, these kits run as high as 300 bucks
Then there's the 30 dollar Amazon tri-fuel carbs that I'm in love with,
There are a lot of misunderstandings about differences,
The cheap one from Amazon only handles low pressure after a regulator, and works perfectly,
Propane can be stored for ten years and run perfectly, Natural gas is on tap, gasoline starts to go stale in 30 days.
I have a brand new one in my shop! Video is coming soon...
I recently purchased a new lawnmower for an early Father's Day gift. It's an MTD yard machines Powermore 132cc engine 21" deck. I'd also change the oil, too, since gas can leak past the rings into the crankcase. *** NOTE: obviously this comment is for the viewers. Steve already knows all of this ;) **
Why rebuild carburetor , I'm confused what's wrong ?
@@johnanderson3746 If you pull the starter rope and gas shoots out of the spark plug hole, what has happened is that the gas is getting past the float needle in the carburetor and overflowing into the cylinder through the intake. If left long enough, this gas will seep past the rings, into the crankcase and into the oil. Rebuilding the carburetor fixes the issue with the float sticking and or the needle not sealing properly in the float seat. You should also change the oil if gas has in fact seeped into the crankcase.

Thank you sir 😅
Thanks. I looked under the mower and it was clogged with grass. Thanks for the information...
You're Welcome...
I got a go kart now with the starter rope stuck. I havn't checked it out yet. Thanks Steve
THANK you!!
You're Welcome...
Good to know but what if it's your weed eater and you have a attachment disconnect and both of them are rotating would it be your pull cord bound up as this happened to me last week on someone I work for weed eater but didn't have time to check it out further looking for your reply Kraig from Washington State
I've definitely had the "chunk of grass" happen on my little 20" push mower.
COOL!
thank you for this video
My pleasure
don't waste your time trying to fix those old mowers just put them to the curb and buy a new one so i can come around and pick them up lol 😂
Roger that....
I'll be on the other side of town, doing the same.... lol
I love it when people give up on their old equipment cause that means I can fix em😁
late May and June is a mower picken good time , lol
Same with snow blowers!
If I could find enough broken mowers to pick up, fix and sell I could give up my day job. It's easy money......
That's a good tip, this has happened to me before...hard to believe dry grass clumps can do that.
COOL!
