Hey Uncle Steve, Buckin" needs to watch your video on lawn mower tipping, is it kinda like cow tipping? And how come he hit that root now? How many times has he missed it? Murphy's law: I'm gonna mow the lawn, what could go wrong? Eh friends? Hey? Thanks Uncle Steve!!!!! You da man!!!!
Mine is brand new and the rope pulls but then stutterers any help
@Steve plz help me!!! I have a GCV 160 Honda ez start and the nuts are stuck. They turn but won't come off!!! Advice?
There's no videos on how you start a lawn mower when the pull straight out
Man all I'm trying to do is start a lawn mower my rope pulls straight out very little attention
Single moms everywhere thank you for this tip. Seen this happen alot when I'm done mowing and not wash the mower so the grass doesn't dry into giant globs and clog stuff up.
Right on
Thanks for your great advice ; ) One time i couldn't pull my rope on the my tiller after i had loaned it to a friend . My first thought was he blew the engine . Come to figure out he had transported it on the side which allowed oil to flood the cylinder and made it hydro lock. All i had to do was remove the spark plug and pull it several times and clean oil off spark plug . Man did it smoke when it finally start . Needless to say i don't loan tools to that guy any more but we are still friends after i told him what happened . Cheers ; )
Absolutely. The many times Ive had customers come to me with this sort of issue and it only took seconds to sort out. I haven't actually come across many genuinely siezed lawn mower engines to be honest. Great vid 👍👍
Right on buddy! Thank You...
Thank you sir for this great tip. Yesterday I was mowing my lawn and the lawn mower stopped all of the sudden. I tried so many times to re-start, but I couldn't because the pull rope got stuck. After so many tries I got tired and gave up. Today I searched on the internet for help and found your video. I paused your video and got so excited where you tipped the mower and I saw the big rock under there. I ran outside to where I left my mower yesterday and started to tip it over. OMG! I found the culprit! There was a big clump of grass covering the blade. I am so grateful for your information sir. Thank you thank you thank you!!! and God bless.
You're Welcome...
You just saved me a heart attack my friend! I assumed the worst when my lawn mower wouldn't pull yesterday. Turned it over and it the blade was blocked with a solid chunk of grass. Now I know to clean my deck more often!
Right on
Dang, you are awesome. I did what you said and was shocked at the amount of grass underside. After I used a putty knife to scrape it all off I flipped it over and it fired up on 2nd pull. Thank you thank you
Boy, am I glad I found Steve's!! I flipped my lawnmower over, and, sure, enough, there was some type of material wrapped very tightly between the blade and the deck. I removed it, turned the blade a little, then pulled the cord, and it worked. Thank you for this video. Saved me some money and a lot of embarrassment.
You're Welcome...
Thank you. It's guys like you that help people everywhere that need to save money and feel confident to manage machinery. You rock!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
I have a problem with a cord that doesn't engage. it just pulls out and retracts, but it doesn't engage.
Just helped me i have never used a lawnmower in my life besides the mechanical one when i was a child 😂😂😂 turned the blade and now it works thank you
Thank you . Thank you! My starter cord, out of nowhere, locked up ! Turned it on its side and saw a clump of dry grass caught in the blade! Cleared it out and Whalah!! 👍🏼
Fantastic!
Hi Steve i work at my local Lowe's home improvement store and i have counted at least 12 to 14 Craftsman push mowers returned all seized solid over the spring season some of them just days old i believe people are not putting the correct amount of oil in the crankcase or leaving the oil fill cap loose and sometimes i have customers bring their mowers to figure out why they won't start and they just forget to pull the handles out to the correct position.
Nowadays......another Distinct possibility is, well......"Craftsman" !
They sure Don't put out Quality like the used to !
Even 90% of their tools are "outsourced" now.
Sad...!
After watching the top ten hateful and angry replies…I’m hooked…we love you…I’ve learned so much from the videos you have posted…having a cold SOL beer…cheers brother…south Texas loves you…
Right on Wade! Thank You...
D’oh! THANK YOU!!!! I was 3 seconds away from taking a sledgehammer to my mower. And it was just that I hadn’t engaged the brake handle after replacing the starter rope. THANK YOU!!!
My son didn't clean out the grass underneath after the last time he mowed. Today It was like concrete. Got it cleaned out and things are working perfectly. Thanks for your help.
Great job!
This helped me a lot. I didn't seem to have anything blocking my blade but I hand turned it a couple of times and it was all good from there
Ended up I needed to change my oil
Thank you I just fixed my lawn mower have the same problem and now is working 💯🙏🙏💯❤️❤️
If it's still stuck it could be hydro locked remove the spark plugs then try and pull it over
Just had this happen to a friends tractor last weekend. I happened to be there working on something else when I heard her repeatedly starting up the tractor then stalling it out when she turned on the PTO. I finally dropped what I was doing, went out there and asked her if she checked under the deck for stuck grass holding the blades back. She says “Well of course I did! This thing is broken again and has to go to back the shop”. I took a quick look under the deck, giant clump of grass jamming up the blades. Cleaned it out, mower is just fine, she says “Oh, well I didn’t check that side, just the side with the chute!”. 🙄
Right on
thank you Steve....I have one where the cord will not pull anymore....and it appears to be seized....now I can go out and disconnect the spark plug ...turn it over and see if build up has it locked down or if it is tangled in the plastic part that keeps things from slinging out the back onto our bodies.......now I will see pulling the lawnmower back....will cause that plastic back piece to pull up under the engine........your a gem....I will be tickled shi***** if I can remove something from the bottom and start her up.....Hugs and Kisses to all you guys that record this stuff......major help..............I LUV TH-cam FOR EVERYTHING>
Great common sense tips to check before the dreaded is there any oil in it.As I watched this my last customer of the day brought down a lawnmower that would not pull over, I tipped up he had the two handle ends pushed down to the point the blade was jammed against it, did not have wing bolts through handle on the ends..So quick fix and will make his day.As an independent shop owner got to say well done videos to the point and I am sure your audience thinks the same.
Right on Steve!
I've definitely had the "chunk of grass" happen on my little 20" push mower.
COOL!
My Craftsman LT2000 Tractor Steering wheel was off center by a lot. So, I removed the steering wheel cover and was unbolting it from the column, when suddenly the column dropped out. I managed to pull the column up and hold it with my left hand and bolted the steering wheel back on with my right hand. I could then turn the steering wheel left and right now, but the front wheel of my tractor wasn't responding. Well yes, I didn't know what was going on, and I hit the panic button and had to walked away from it. Took time and checked out my Tractor's Manual for a diagram and talked to a friend while picking his brain. Two hours pasted and I walked out to the garage to rework the steering mechanism and this time I assembled it correctly and noticed a hole thru the column where a retainer pin was required. It suppose to hold the column up to a fixed height, if you go and remove the steering wheel. A temporary retainer pin was made, until the one I ordered comes in. It just goes to show you, sometimes you just need to walk away from it for awhile ... A second look counts.
so what you are saying is a chunk of dried grass messed up your steering, Or you wanted to tell a irrelevant story today ?
Daddy went for a pack of smokes. Thanks for filling in the easy stuff I should have known 20+ years ago lol
You are a lifesaver l! I was certain that the problem was much more complex, but then I turned my mower over and voila!
Right on Andy! Thank You...
Thank you so much I was about to cry because i was thinking how I'm I telling my man I broke the mower
Thank you! That is exactly what was wrong with our machine. Saved me a trip to the repair guy.
Glad to help
That's exactly what I was thinking to do, except for thinking maybe the starter mechanism was jammed.
I was also thinking that the blade sure needs sharpening!
Homie, this was awesome I thought I was going to have to do a whole bunch of stuff Thank you man Thank you for making those video may the Lord blessing protect and keep you I really appreciate you taking the time to do this and deep down from inside I just want to express my gratitude Thank you🎉
Glad I could help!
Steve, sometimes common sense isn't as common as it used to be .I think it's great that you offer a refresher course. Like you said, "think before you panic".
Right on
Steve, thank you very much. This fixed my starter rope from being stuck. Now I can cut my grass.
Glad I could help!
Thanks Steve, just a wooden piece was stuck. You save my lot of hours.❤
Excellent!
Love the videos of how to, I need one on my Stihl saw that won't pull over new saw that I bought and haven't had to use much at all. I hope I didn't ruin it from leaving it sit for too long and not using it. Thanks for your time.
Or,…
I pulled the spark plug, tried to free blade and it was turning hard. I turned it over to see if it was blocked. Not blocked, just turning hard. Tipped it back over, cleaned up the oil and gas cuz I’m a rookie and left the caps off, then began the breakdown to find the cause. One turn of a socket on the top center bolt (no idea what it’s called) and it broke free. I thought I loosened the nut but I freed the blade. Put the pull cord back on and it the pull cord was working. Started up on 2nd pull. Thanks for your video, especially on how to tip it over (with gas and oil cap tightened). Can’t wait to mow the lawn!
d
One more quick thing to check is pull your spark plug out. Gas overflowing into the cylinder will hydro lock the piston (liquids do not compress like air). Now, pull the starter rope. If the engine spins and gas shoots out, you need to rebuild your carburetor. I'd also change the oil, too, since gas can leak past the rings into the crankcase. *** NOTE: obviously this comment is for the viewers. Steve already knows all of this ;) **
Why rebuild carburetor , I'm confused what's wrong ?
@@johnanderson3746 If you pull the starter rope and gas shoots out of the spark plug hole, what has happened is that the gas is getting past the float needle in the carburetor and overflowing into the cylinder through the intake. If left long enough, this gas will seep past the rings, into the crankcase and into the oil. Rebuilding the carburetor fixes the issue with the float sticking and or the needle not sealing properly in the float seat. You should also change the oil if gas has in fact seeped into the crankcase.
@@rebeltaz123 git ya thanks for the info . Little confusing but I think I got it , I reread it lol
@@johnanderson3746 I'm sorry. lol... I'm better at doing than teaching. If you need anything clarified, just let me know.
@@rebeltaz123 no you did good . Thanks any more q's I'll text appreciate it
Thank you for walking is through. I should’ve listened and watched the other video first because I fixed the issue but gas spilled out now I’m scared to start it😅
Yes , I've even had this happen on riding mowers
Thanks Steve. Glad I have a riding mower.
Right on
Thank you! Saved me from a huge headache and repair bill.
Phew! Dodged a bullet there, huh? Glad I could save you from that headache and repair bill. Remember, I'm here to make your life easier and more entertaining!
You are a lifesaver! thank you thank you thank you
You're welcome!
Oh heck yeah, i panicked until i watched your video and than fixed the mower, thanks!
Glad to help
Gday mate yep tip it over the right way not like me on the filter side .
Right on
I LOVE how you always say I hope this will help some one, I do the same on my tiny channel. I learned that from you Steve, you are a fine man. Best of wishes to all. :)
Glad to help
I just tipped my lawn mower over and I can see the blades are hitting two metal rods. It looks like the rods are attached to The Handlebar and the blades hit the rods almost like some sort of safety feature but I don't know how to move the rods out the way. I tried standing the lawn mower up and pulling the handle back but these two black rods on either side don't seem to be engaging
This happened to us!
What a stupid design! Just bought yanked off my arm mid-mow because it had dropped down, apparently while mowing.
Would have been great to see the next steps to fix it if there’s nothing underneath it. My lawnmower chord is still stuck. Do you have a video on what to do next? Thanks
nothing blocking mine but cord was stuck and blade was hard to turn by hand, took spark plug wire off etc. no help. checked oil, looked like it needed some, that was it! It was probably dry as a bone! not easy checking oil or knowing how much to fill it. every few minutes it blows white smoke, i guess i over filled it. How do i get correct level of oil? don't know or care right now, grass is mowed and i'll cross that bridge next time.
Thank goodness for your video. That totally was our problem! Wish I could give you more.
Thank You...
Great tip Steve. Thank you.
Very welcome
simple and straight solution for a big headache - thank you very much
You're Welcome...
It happens many time😉....
Nice share 👍
Thank You...
Did this at the weekend lol, pi**ed for about ten seconds then saw all the wet grass stuck in it :) have a cool day, love the advice in your vids, you made me laugh with the little demo trying to start the mower, was probably exactly how I looked... all annoyed and over animated :)
Thanks. I looked under the mower and it was clogged with grass. Thanks for the information...
You're Welcome...
Steve Please answer...I'm asking here because it's your latest video,
Can you do a video on the two big natural gas/propane conversion kits that everyone's using today,
The first is a rather large regulator unit, these kits run as high as 300 bucks
Then there's the 30 dollar Amazon tri-fuel carbs that I'm in love with,
There are a lot of misunderstandings about differences,
The cheap one from Amazon only handles low pressure after a regulator, and works perfectly,
Propane can be stored for ten years and run perfectly, Natural gas is on tap, gasoline starts to go stale in 30 days.
I have a brand new one in my shop! Video is coming soon...
I left my mower out in the rain and it would not start after. I took the carburetor off, dried everything out, used carb cleaner then reassembled, now the cord won’t pull. I’ve checked the spark plug and oil. I’ll probably take it to a small engine repair shop. Ugh
Haha, it's interesting that this is exactly what happened to me last season. Thanks for the reminder Steve. Cheers! 😊
I got a go kart now with the starter rope stuck. I havn't checked it out yet. Thanks Steve
Steve I love the bush beer
Right on
Thank you! That fixed it!
You're welcome!
I recently purchased a new lawnmower for an early Father's Day gift. It's an MTD yard machines Powermore 132cc engine 21" deck. Anyway, I noticed it has a sticker on it which says SAE 10W-30 on it, but it came with SAE 30 oil included with the manual. The manual has a little chart showing different types of oil, but I am not certain which is best to use. Seems like the chart says that 10W-30 is the least one should use, with SAE 30 as the best, but just wanting another opinion.
That's a good tip, this has happened to me before...hard to believe dry grass clumps can do that.
COOL!
thank you. I fixed my lawnmower .
You're Welcome...
next step: pull the spark plug out. if the float valve in your carb got stuck, it can fill your cylinder and hydrolock you. if you pull the plug it can push the fuel out. then you can look up the video on how to start a flooded machine.
Yes, been there, done that!!!
Chances are, the oil will need changing, too.
@@tinpony9424 depending on how long it's been hydrolocked and how tight the rings are, yes. the gas can fill the crankcase, too. on the plus side, if that happens, your oil will be REALLY clean for a while.
Thank you i was about to be pissed off 😂
You're Welcome...
Nice video Steve
Thank You...
Thank you! that was the problem i had, thanks for your help! GREAT JOB!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Ok ☺️
Thank you so much !!!
You're Welcome...
Yep thanks
You're Welcome...
Before panic, lift of the recoil starter, pull the plug and rotate the blade. Had one just last week the recoil had rusted and seized. Nothing at all wrong with the motor.
So glad TH-cam decided to put your videos back on my feed. Cheers
Welcome back!
Thank you sir 😅
Thanks ❤ it really worked
You're welcome!
I have a question… if you try that and thats not the issue what do u do
Steve if you have time could you do one on interchangeable parts from one brand to another? Like troy built and all that. Thanks friend
Hey👋SteveO, just pressure washed the underneath side of my zero today, tomorrow the blades come of to be sharpened!
Getting old cutting the lawn twice just to get an even cut🤣🤣🤣
Blade sharpening...hmm🤔
AWESOME VID my friend!!! Jay.
Have fun!
Don't forget to unscrew the spark plug and try pulling it. Oil in that cylinder will stop you dead in your tracks.
Simple short good information - Thanks Steve!
You're Welcome...
That happened to me a week ago, but no obstruction. I tipped the mower, wrong way, moved the blade. Tried again and worked it out. It was like air pressure built up. I got it started. Seems like that happened before. I also think you can release pressure or vacuum, by taking the spark plug out.
Probably had oil and/or fuel locking up the cylinder. That's one reason why he said remove the spark plug because any liquid in there will blow out when you pull the rope (that and for safety so it doesn't start while you're underneath messing with it).
It was grass build up like you said I feel so stupid Thanks Bro!
Glad I could help
You always remind me of that guy Worley from Officer and a Gentleman. So when I watch your videos that song, Love lifts us up where we belong, gets stuck in my head. Lol.
LOL!
Thanks
Welcome
don't waste your time trying to fix those old mowers just put them to the curb and buy a new one so i can come around and pick them up lol 😂
Roger that....
I'll be on the other side of town, doing the same.... lol
I love it when people give up on their old equipment cause that means I can fix em😁
late May and June is a mower picken good time , lol
Same with snow blowers!
If I could find enough broken mowers to pick up, fix and sell I could give up my day job. It's easy money......
Thank you!!! So I didn't break my neighbor's mower after all 😊
You're Welcome...
Saved me a hundred dollars and some serious embarrassment! Something was stuck! Thank you!
You're Welcome...
Thank you!
Welcome!
THANK you!!
You're Welcome...
I've been meaning to ask but I always forget. What happened to the breaking glass in your intro. I miss it.
He has learnt the hard way to flick the strimmer away from windows just like me.
Thank you sweetie, you actually helped me and MY NERVES. You're a cutie too. 💕💕❤❤
Another informative video
Glad you think so!
WOW brother!!! Ty so much for this video.. that's exactly what it was👊🏻👊🏻
Very welcome

You're welcome
Hi Steve I enjoy all your videos one day maybe if you have time if you can give your opinion on the justrite gas cans I bought my first i gal. can and now I have all the sizes I love them.
Absolutely 100% love it. Thank you again Stevens 100🙏🙏💯❤️❤️
You are so welcome
Dude you fixed it …tons of grass👍😎
Right on
Cheers Steve. I drink the same beer. LOL Glad your staying safe and drinking the right beer. :)
Thank you kindly
Like the bush light lol
COOL!
Wow! I’m so glad I watched this. I’ve been dreading trying to fix that pull start for a week and I just forgot to pull the handle first lol 😂
Thanks worked right away
You're Welcome...
That happened to me, except it was my Areins Snow Blower. My Briggs stator came off it mounts and got jammed on the fly wheel magnetics. The problem was that the stator mounting hole sheared off because it was drilled off center from the factory. Luckily there are 4 stator mounts on the Briggs, and my stator requires 2. Ordered an open boxed stator and used fly wheel from ebay, mounted the stator upsidedown and I was up and running.
Awesome - thanks! Was a clump of dried grass for me👍
Glad it helped!
Thanks!😁
Any time
My Honda Lawnmower Model: HRX217K6HYA with the Engine model: GCV200 recoil starter spring keeps coming loose where the center end of the spring grabs a plastic part at the center of the recoil cassette. A new cassette costs only $10 and so I bought 2 since the shipping is the same as the part and the part seems prone to failure. I have only had the lawnmower for 2 years and my old Honda HRX217 with the GCV190 motor has never given me any problems except when I ran over a buried railroad tie. Can that end of the spring be bent a little tighter so it won’t come loose? If it can be easily fixed, it might be the subject of a quick repair video.
