  • The sound of something loose near the rear end seems to be a common issue with the Honda Element. If you have done the Sway bar bushing replacement and you still have a noise, it may be this!

Great video! not sure how I feel about the $28 part. I looked underneath my MT AWD and it looks the same as your old one. The OEM Honda part costs about $100. I think I'll opt for that. Thanks for this excellent instructional vid.

BTW, this differential damper is only found on manual transmissions.

Thanks for that info, I did not know that. I wonder why they thought it wasn't needed on the automatic trans models?

Thought I knew everything about my Element. Had no idea! Thank you!

Thanks for sharing… I had wondered what that part is and mine looks same as your original one. I may just try wedging a piece of rubber or silicon pad in there.

You bet, I have never had a vehicle with a vibration dampener on the rear diff. After doing some reading on this it appears this takes out some of the vibration at highway speeds. My Element ran very smoothly before the swap to the new part, I can't say I felt any vibration, but I had it on the highway right after doing this swap and it was buttery smooth! It may be worth the $25 for you to just do the new install. Cheers

Thanks for the video ... what is the part name? ... part number? EDIT #1: Is it this one -> "Genuine Honda 50716-S9A-000 Differential Dynamic Damper, Rear" -- EDIT #2: Also; this is for the "AWD"/ MT version of the Element, the non "AWD"/ MT does not have this part.

Hello, yes you are correct that this damper is only on the manual transmission awd models. Try Amazon with the following number and name; 50716-S9A-000 Rear Differential Dynamic Damper. Cheers

Man.... mine looks like just like yours .. guess another part to change. I wonder if there are aftermarket upgrades that may be better

Definitely, my element is now buttery smooth, no vibration at all at highway speeds and no more clunk when I hit a bump. I haven't seen an aftermarket upgrade for this part, but I have heard of some people who just remove it and don't replace it with anything. My thinking is that Honda put it on there for a reason. Cheers
