If you look around the Burkittsville Maryland area, you will see that the woods are along the ridge just to the west. The woods are only about 3,000 feet wide, that is less than one mile thick. Plenty of open farmland and country roads on either side of the woods. Difficult to get lost.
Yup. People repeat this a lot and how clumsy it was of them to lost. But an important plot point that isn’t explicitly stated is the witch put a hex on them and made it impossible to leave the woods.
I know where they filmed is just like a park 😂 but it's a movie. Back then ppl all around the country didn't look at google maps and just had to say ok the woods there must be thick AF 😂
For real though, if in real life you're stuck in this situation, find a creek or brook or other flowing body of water and follow it downstream. It will eventually lead you back to civilisation.
In real life absolutely. In the movie though the witch put a hex on them making them go in circles. That’s why they can’t seem to get out of the woods.
+FEELTHEAWESOMENESS Don't listen to these Debby Downers. This movie was suspenseful and creepy. As a kid, I was never watched it from beginning to end and I was young and did not understand a lot of the nuances. One night this aired on Syfy at like 2am as I was looking for something to watch on a Saturday night. Luckily I caught it just as it started. I went sleep that night with my mind buzzing. I could not stop thinking about this movie. Such a simple idea executed perfectly. Too bad the second film went all out Hollywood but it is definitely worth the watch on a lazy day.
The only thing that struck fear into me was Heather's screaming at the end. Never have I heard someone scream like that. If I ever heard that in real life I'd be shaking in my boots.
Right after this scene, Josh lies down and then gets up. Looking almost like he wanted to attack Heather, and the looks dazed for a second. Not sure if they brought alcohol on the trip, but that was a strange moment in the movie for sure.
Take notes everyone: When going through an uncertain part of the woods, make sure that you not only have your phones for google maps, but also in case of bad reception, make sure that EVERYONE ON THE TRIP HAS A DAMN MAP!
The reason they can't get back to their car is similar to what happens in Grave Encounters. They're caught in a dimension between the real world and the spirit world, and it's basically a trap they wondered into with no way out.
Good point, but also, some have theorized that the witch is manipulating them so they can't think clearly. That's why I think Mike lost the map. The witch tricked him into throwing it into the river and he had a mild form of amnesia. He only remembered later because the spell wore off.
The most disturbing thing about this whole film is that the actors didn’t get paid what they were due by the film production companies who bought the film and made millions off it.
My favorite horror movie because it's one of the only ones that's managed to get under my skin actually freak me out, no monsters or fantastical plotlines or traditional character tropes or jumpscares, just three people lost in the woods and losing their sanity while you're left to imagine what could be stalking them. I know a lot of people don't like this film because it lacks answers to it's own questions, but that's exactly WHY I love it so much. The unknown has always intrigued and frightened me so much more than any demon (amazingly designed or not) that has ever been conjured up or explained away onscreen. This movie would not have left the impact it did had they shown a gangly witch dragging them into hell or a group of Satan worshipping hillbillies chopping them up. People are talking and even debating about it 20 years later precisely because it wasn't just another horror movie, it was an open ended immersive experiment that pissed some ppl off, bored others to tears and absolutely absorbed, terrified and inspired others. I legit never get tired of this movie.
The scary thing is precisely not seeing anything on the screen. But we do hear voices, and footsteps and nobody knows who or what it is... Haven't you ever been on a camp trip with friends? Or in a park at night? Or even in a cemetery? Sometimes you hear things, you don't know what they are, and your fears start to take shape... The Blair Witch Project's success is due to that, the stress of being lost in an unsafe place which is really nerve-racking and the fear of dying not even knowing how...
According to the supplemental "Curse of the Blair Witch" Mockumentary that came out just before the film released, that's not actually the case. Rather, a group of archaeology students were digging at the foundation of what used to be a colonial house, which was no longer standing, and found a bag full of their equipment and footage underneath some sterile soil that, according to all scientific logic, was undisturbed and thus, they couldn't explain how the bag got there because it would have basically had to materialize there since no person could have buried it. It's a little spooky piece of information that adds to the supernatural element of the movie once you're aware of it.
I just wanna to say that i believe they went down since the moment they kick out the pile of rocks. But my man that answer i mean i cant take it jajajajajajajajajajajajajaj
😂😂 what got me is what's wrong with being a scared of a witch in the woods? Heather kept asking what are you scared In a challenging way? "I'm not scared I'm just DONE man"😅
This is why when you go in the woods to mess with witches you don't take 3 people, you post that trip online and ask everyone to come and take 300 people.
If this movie doesn't scare you or make your skin crawl then why don't you go into those spooky woods in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT let's see if you have the balls!
People focus so much on the map or the fact they should have just kept following a creek or whatever. I think they made it pretty clear they were not getting out of there once they went in, no matter what they did. This is illustrated by the way they walked in the same direction for an entire day and somehow ended up back where they started.
In the 2016 sequel when James is in the house looking for Heather, just before he opens one of the doors, you can see the map from this film laying on the floor. It’s very quick, but it’s there.
One of the scariest parts of this movie is knowing that the map really *is* useless. Even if they did have it, they still would never have found their way out
I know the fear the 3 of those filmmakers would uncover was inevitable but the losing of the map has to be one of the WORST MISTAKES IN A HORROR MOVIE EVER
Haha you would get frank blasting away the Blair witch or Dennis tryna swoon in on the witch! Unless the witch turned out be uncle jack since he likes little kids
BEST AND SCARIER MOVIE EVER!, I feel so bad for the people that didn't even try to understand. Those rocks are their graves but yes... for some people is not scary to know, that someone at nigth put them there and you didn't even noticed it. If you didn't get it, Josh was taken away because he kicked one of those by accident in the burial
But why would Mike want to kill her? They didn't even know each other until the he got in the car. Mike and Josh were friends (or at least knew each other) but I don't see myself going through that much to help a friend kill someone I don't have anything against...
This theory is completely ruined by a couple things. First...the tent shaking scene. Also, why go through all that trouble just to kill her? If they wanted to scare and kill her a couple nights at the most would have sufficed. Also, when they are going in circles it's because there is a hex put on them.
You need to watch the movie but I'll explain quickly. Heather did have a compass on her necklace. It didn't do them any good because the witch interfered with the compass, making it direct them in a large circle. They though they had been heading south away from the river where a huge log was. They came back to the log and realized the witch had tricked them into walking in a circle.
I know this doesn't relate to the movie, but it seems young people in the late 90's aren't that different from the youngsters of today. These guys talk the same as the people in my age group. I think that's a good thing cause it means there's less of a generation gap, so older and younger generations can get along better than ever.
you kids talk like you think you know it all and that are "all grown up" just because you're not 10 anymore, but the reality is a 10 year old is much more mature than y'all, physical height means nothing
The witch was actually in this movie as a woman in a white dress but they missed it when filming which kinda worked for the better. They messed with the 3 people who thought it was a smart idea to not take a tripod pretty bad, I remember reading the contract so long ago when the internet wasnt what it was now and people though this stupid waste of 7 dollars movie was real. Seeing the original in thearters made me so motion sick, i also thought it was a comedy lol . I feel old I like Jish from Blair Thumb better than Josh.
For the people that think that this movie is bullshit... How could be this a bad movie if without showing blood, jumpscares or creepy soundstracks STILL scare people. As a movie to imagine the end, for me there is not witch at all, there is something wrong with the forest but the killer is a person

@@edgarlombera7066 its not false, its true. and their real names are the same as their characters
If you look around the Burkittsville Maryland area, you will see that the woods are along the ridge just to the west. The woods are only about 3,000 feet wide, that is less than one mile thick. Plenty of open farmland and country roads on either side of the woods. Difficult to get lost.
Ohhhh there it is,thanks a lot man.
This is something I’ve been searching for a while
Just got finished watching whole movie and im freaked out
It's fake, they just had a amazing idea to go get crappy cameras and some movie equipment and make an amazing cliff hanger story. :)
+FEELTHEAWESOMENESS Avoid the sequel, it's not worth toilet paper.
+FEELTHEAWESOMENESS
Don't listen to these Debby Downers.
Too bad the second film went all out Hollywood but it is definitely worth the watch on a lazy day.
watch the recent blair witch. its fantastic. screw book of shadows tho
My dad told me it was real and when it was done filming he told me it was fake blow my mind so I had to rewatch it know it was fake.
The only thing that struck fear into me was Heather's screaming at the end. Never have I heard someone scream like that. If I ever heard that in real life I'd be shaking in my boots.
I'm not fucking scared. I'm just tired, I'm hungry, I'm fucking like.... I'm just fucking done man.
That was hard
😂 man
Right after this scene, Josh lies down and then gets up.
You need a GPS tracker to be 1000% responsible should you end up in the sheeet. GPS. Phones and maps won't compare.
"I gave you back the map, Heather!!!"
Their improvisation and character clashes makes this film so good and scary
thank god for google maps lol gps lol
Pretty sure if she can stick you in a supernatural time warp with no way out, she can fuck your phone up lol
xUnleadedx yeah there's something called out in nature and there's no service you'd need a map
It wouldn't work there anyways.

Literally the most realistic acting ever
1:08 That's genuine since they were fed less and less during filming
Fun fact at one point the crew was really lost
🤣nope
The scary thing is precisely not seeing anything on the screen. But we do hear voices, and footsteps and nobody knows who or what it is... Haven't you ever been on a camp trip with friends? Or in a park at night? Or even in a cemetery? Sometimes you hear things, you don't know what they are, and your fears start to take shape... The Blair Witch Project's success is due to that, the stress of being lost in an unsafe place which is really nerve-racking and the fear of dying not even knowing how...
Lmfao I’m not going into your pants to get your goddamn map, man!” Hilarious line!🤣
" that's all i want TO MAN" 🤣
I'm just wondering how their footage was discovered. Someone had to go into the haunted forest to get that.
They had a map

2:00 Mike do you have something to say?
All that yelling and Mike blaming Heather when he threw the map down the river wtf
That maapp was useless! that map was useless!! lmao!!!
I love Heather! She makes me laugh xD
I know man that's all I want to 😂
i'm the map i'm the map
yeah dude, a map would have change everything
If this movie doesn't scare you or make your skin crawl then why don't you go into those spooky woods in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT let's see if you have the balls!
Maryland time.
ive played the game and i would never go into those woods
Three potty-mouths in the thicket, XD.
It's not what popped up on the screen that made it scary, it's what didn't.
anyone here in 2020??! still freaked out bout their child hood??!! and thinking this was real??!!
One of my favorite movies of all time. Classic in every way for me. A defining horror movie.
Josh is the man!
Absolutely terrifying
People focus so much on the map or the fact they should have just kept following a creek or whatever. I think they made it pretty clear they were not getting out of there once they went in, no matter what they did. This is illustrated by the way they walked in the same direction for an entire day and somehow ended up back where they started.
In the 2016 sequel when James is in the house looking for Heather, just before he opens one of the doors, you can see the map from this film laying on the floor. It’s very quick, but it’s there.
One of the scariest parts of this movie is knowing that the map really *is* useless. Even if they did have it, they still would never have found their way out
The rocks were their only protection josh knocked it down which means the witches can hurt them now why u think he died first
whatever it is were obviously not wanted so lets get the hell out lmao!
"No I'm not fuckin scared alright I'm just fuckin tired I'm hungry I'm just like fuckin done man. I'm fuckin done!"
It seems like they aren’t even acting and there just talking like normal and how they actually would
1:07 Bullshit! He started all this by knocking over the pile of rocks.
I know the fear the 3 of those filmmakers would uncover was inevitable but the losing of the map has to be one of the WORST MISTAKES IN A HORROR MOVIE EVER
Did wish this was louder
Heather lowkey cute
It’s certainly not giant wooden effigies hanging from the trees surrounding the campsite, but a pile of rocks which counts for something I guess.
They've basically entered a alternate reality, where their footsteps go on forever, the woods were cursed
I remember thinking this movie was based on a true story. It seems so realistic.
I wish I could find people who can act this naturally
Great Movie.
There was a theory that heather was the witch and lured them to the sacrifice house
1:56 way more then even being the one to throw the map away, I fucken HATE the audacity to ask Heather if she is missing the map.
Hansel and Gretel. Haha.
(Thumbnail) When your friend says they forgot about the map.
Imagine if the gang from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia were lost in the woods with the Blair Witch after them.
Haha you would get frank blasting away the Blair witch or Dennis tryna swoon in on the witch! Unless the witch turned out be uncle jack since he likes little kids
This the scene where things start to go wrong
BEST AND SCARIER MOVIE EVER!, I feel so bad for the people that didn't even try to understand. Those rocks are their graves but yes... for some people is not scary to know, that someone at nigth put them there and you didn't even noticed it. If you didn't get it, Josh was taken away because he kicked one of those by accident in the burial
Watch in 0,25x speed and die laughing 😂
The Blair Witch is a made up plan to lure and scare Heather into the woods. Eventually for Josh and Mike to kill her.
But why would Mike want to kill her? They didn't even know each other until the he got in the car. Mike and Josh were friends (or at least knew each other) but I don't see myself going through that much to help a friend kill someone I don't have anything against...
Kinda makes you wonder if Heather was a trader and lured them to these woods, It was all a set up
This theory is completely ruined by a couple things. First...the tent shaking scene. Also, why go through all that trouble just to kill her? If they wanted to scare and kill her a couple nights at the most would have sufficed. Also, when they are going in circles it's because there is a hex put on them.
If you go down in the woods today you're in for a big surprise.
I Ike what
how do you travel in the woods in a circle? i never understood that
You need to watch the movie but I'll explain quickly. Heather did have a compass on her necklace. It didn't do them any good because the witch interfered with the compass, making it direct them in a large circle. They though they had been heading south away from the river where a huge log was. They came back to the log and realized the witch had tricked them into walking in a circle.
The witch
God, thank you for no pollution on the sabbath days In Jesus mighty name. Amen 🙏 🤍
Low key its real. I saw the ghost and dipped
*Boots from Dora voice* “where’s the map, where’s the map, where’s the map?”
I know this doesn't relate to the movie, but it seems young people in the late 90's aren't that different from the youngsters of today. These guys talk the same as the people in my age group. I think that's a good thing cause it means there's less of a generation gap, so older and younger generations can get along better than ever.
That's why you refer to them as youngsters XD
Batfreeze I'm 19
you kids talk like you think you know it all and that are "all grown up" just because you're not 10 anymore, but the reality is a 10 year old is much more mature than y'all, physical height means nothing
Regina Reece Hey guess what, I'm a 20 year old man, I am grown up.
sarcastian LOL! 20 year old "grown up man", you must ve joking, 20 year old kids are nowhere near "grown ups"....
perfect August movie
I gave you the map!
Take a shot for every time Josh says “at this point”
The witch was actually in this movie as a woman in a white dress but they missed it when filming which kinda worked for the better. They messed with the 3 people who thought it was a smart idea to not take a tripod pretty bad, I remember reading the contract so long ago when the internet wasnt what it was now and people though this stupid waste of 7 dollars movie was real.
Seeing the original in thearters made me so motion sick, i also thought it was a comedy lol . I feel old
I like Jish from Blair Thumb better than Josh.
The 3 piles of rocks mean they are in a time loop or trapped in the woods.
For the people that think that this movie is bullshit... How could be this a bad movie if without showing blood, jumpscares or creepy soundstracks STILL scare people. As a movie to imagine the end, for me there is not witch at all, there is something wrong with the forest but the killer is a person
She is so cute)
