Helena Williams: The melody in this composition is spiritual and its echo infiltrates one's soul. The melancholic thoughts on life are felt in the 'Prayer.' Extraordinary cellist...
Listening to this rendering, I have realized that my own performance of this piece (also on TH-cam) would have benefitted from a somewhat slower tempo than the one that my pianist and I adopted..
Because it's set originally for cello and piano by the composer Ernest Bloch. "Prayer" is part of the suite "From Jewish Life" from 1924. Many years later, the English composer Christopher Palmer arranged it for cello, string orchestra and harp.
Que alegría, mi padre era fan davosbmo cadalso, el tocaba el violín y sus paidanls violineros, no se como se hacían de data de psganinini, v.monti, un abrazo, cariños y bendiciones hernsnita te amo
how many time does it take to play like this ? and how many time of practice is neccesary to play this beautiful song? I swear I will start my studies of music, only to play this song !
The composition does a good job of reminding me of Jewish Prayer, specifically that of Yom Kippur. It was very beautiful, but she kept bending her finger backwards instead of keeping it curved. Besides that I think that this is very nice.
Beautiful redition. But I must correct you. Playing an entire piece, beginning to end is not Fair Use. It is piracy. Feel lucky that our government doesn't want to enforce copyright law except on behalf of the rich and powerful.
Anyone else notice how bad her form is as she passes 4th position? Those inwardly bent fingers? Her lack of thumb position? Could have more passionate vibrato I think :] Still an impressive performance for sure!
I think there's plenty of vibrato ... vibrato can too easily be over the top, especially in a piece in which there is so much pathos built in. As far as her form, close your eyes ... does the performance move you? That's it. That said, however, for my ears, no performance surpasses this one by Karen Kocharyan: th-cam.com/video/pNC0MqafuCM/w-d-xo.html
derodoes who ever you are whats your problem? your saying that just because your jealous that she can play so much better than you i bet you cant even play the simplest song. OK maybe I'm exaggerating a little to much but still that's so rude!!!
C'est la chance de Vous écouter maestra Gabetta !
Merci arte lounge !
Prefer this performance to most of the big names that I heard on TH-cam, very beautiful
From now on whenever i think about Napoli this masterpiece plays in my head grazie mille Sorrentino
I get goosebumps when I am listening to Sol's most sensitive interpretation of this wonderful piece of Jewish Music!
Not a well known piece. So beautifully played. Pathos.
Sol Gabetta remains my very favorite cellist. This was a beautiful piece, beautifully done.
That is such a powerful ,passionate and hypnotic piece
brings forth sad thoughts of historical events ; magnificently played
Apart from being beautiful music, it is nice to see young people appreciating it!

id say about 10 years of daily practice!
Izayoi Higurashi I'm playing this now and I'm in my 7th year of cello
That sounds about right.
About eight years, I'm playing it now and practicing a few hours a day.
Really? that long?
V’imru amein…
Mindblowing!!!
Yep
Bravo por la compatriota
💐🌾🌿🌵🎶
who is that wonderful cellist?!
Sol Gabetta
Qué bonito! Parece Jaquie!
For some reason I don't the slowed descending at places like 0:22 but otherwise it was awesome.
@mmbmbmbmb Very much so. Bloch retired to one of my favourite places on the Oregon Coast and composed incredible music.
Say walahi brother
Deine Melodie hat keine Herzstimme! Du spielst zu hart für ein sehr persönliches Thema.

From the hand of god movie
bravo.du bisch eini vo beschte cellomusikerin
Das stück muss viel einfühlsamer gespielt werden
so unbelievable moving playing.. with such accompaniment... what a pity

leave it cuz
jderoc I've noticed the same problem, I'm playing this piece right now and honestly this piece is so much easier in thumb position.
jderoc Sol Gabetta and Itzhak Perlman are living proof that "position" isn't everything.
jderoc dummheit stirbt nicht!musik auch nicht. i love her playing.

Sounds way better on a double bass
