You are a trooper! Not only the Crack fall, but your dog pooping in the car, and losing your battery charge! And you kept on going to the French River park! You won’t forget that trip! Glad you are safe.
Oh wow. Ok I just came across your channel and bc we did the LaCloche this year I wanted to watch your video. First thing is there was a comment “as a Canadian” from alexpartidge. This type of comment is not very Canadian and as a Canadian nurse There is nothing wrong with calling for help if you feel you need it. My first backpacking trip I fell and fractured my skull. I also still had a good time enjoying where I was hiking. You have a wonderful outlook and I hope you continue to hike. All the things working against you and you just made the best of it. Good for you!
Wow you are a tough girl! It is very commendable that you calmly helped yourself and and overcame the difficulties! A very beautiful area we live in, this Northern Ontario!
What a scary accident! You have a much better attitude about it than I would have! Take good care of yourself and thank you for sharing your 'adventure'.
Hey Grace, new to your channel and subd immediately when I read you were Canadian and hiking Killarney. I'm from Ottawa, and visited Killarney many years ago. It was so windy, but also very sunny. We didn't realize until we got home that we got the worst sun burn that we had ever experienced in our life. I ended up taking my husband to the ER as his burn looked so serious. Anyway, glad we were able to recover just fine and able to put that experience behind us. 👍😁
Hi Grace! I just found your channel and Subscribed. I’m sorry about your accident. You need to be careful, especially if you are hiking or camping alone. I would recommend you get a satellite communicator device like a Zoleo or Garmin InReach for emergencies when you don’t have cell service. Keep the great videos coming! 👏🏻😊
OMG!! That was quite a fall and lots of blood. Glad you did not break anything else. I know what it feels like to hurt your fingers. I was going to Women's College once and I tripped right at the street to cross to get to the hospital. My pinky bent all the way back and my whole hand was bruised and hurt for about a month. Hurt like a B****. Your dogs are super cute. It's been a long time since I have gone camping at Killarney. I actually went portaging with some friends. So Beautiful.
Hi Grace...sorry that happened to you..glad you recovered so fast... Just a correction...that highway is not Trans Canada's highway....it's highway 69 going to Barrie or north to sudbury
Thank you! Trans Canada highway consists of many highways across Canada from West coast to East coast. Highway 69 is part of trans Canada highway system.
First off! Great job keeping as calm as you could! It greatly helps emergency situations in so many ways. I am truly glad that you were able to get out and are okay. I personally have had this lace issue happen with me and laughed it off saying that it could have been worse.... I was on mostly flat ground. You have such a good doggo🥰
@GraceDogmom yes! Just luckily never on terrain like you were on 😳 I am now going to work on fixing this issue before I do more next year ❤️ hope you keep on trekking once you've healed
Ouchie, that looked really painful 🤕 The lace getting caught on the hook and tripping you is precisely why I now only wear trail runners! Youvalso might also want to consider a satellite emergency device of some sort like a Garmin or Zoleo, so SAR can immediately receive your location and come to you. I'm so glad you weren't more seriously injured and that you landed forward and not backward on your wee dog 😳
Dang that's a nasty place to fall. I hope your big trip wasn't impacted from your injuries'. I'd like to recommend looking at Lock Laces. They are elastic laces that replace regular shoe laces, and they sell a boot versions too. I've only used them on running shoes, And I love them. I used to undo my laces from stepping on them and I hated the sound and feeling of the laces flapping around. With the lock laces, It's faster to put my shoes on and off, I get the perfect tightness on my feet every time I put on shoes, there's no extra noise or bulk on my feet, in the rain I don't get wet lace ends I would need to touch. Sorry if this sounds like an ad, but I wish you had them because you wouldn't have gotten hurt if lock laces were more common. Stay strong and thank you for the video
You did amazing! I’m so sorry that happened. I was camping with my two dogs and boys and tripped over the guidelines of the tent and I broke my ankle and damaged all the tendons in my foot. I cried so much. Not because of the pain so much but I was so worried about how I was going to pack up and take care of everyone and everything and get home. We were 3 hrs away. You did amazing! I also have a big black dog and a tiny white dog! We should get together! ❤ hope you’re healing well.
Way to go Grace! Your name matches your attitude after the fall. Did you feel that the information at the trailhead gave you enough warning about the rugged terrain? Stay safe.
@GraceDogmom had a few cuts from the slate I was holding on too nbd ,it was scary tho! Like these two marks -/ are the profile of the roof and plank..saved by cat reflexes that day! Are you all healed up now?
Glad it wasn’t worse. Especially with both your pups. I recommend getting a Garmin In Reach for situations just like this. If you haven’t watched any Appalachian Thru Hiker vlogs, I highly recommend them. Some like Heather and Chuck & a channel called something like “I suck at hiking”. He Thru Hiked the AT with his dog this year. They have great ideas for gear & safety. Again though, 1st Aid Kit for both you AND both dogs and a must have is the Garmin In Reach Mini. Emergency Services would have had your coordinates with a touch of the button.
Thank you for the recommendation. I did have Garmin satellite GPS with me but because I got a hold of 911 dispatcher right away first, I didn’t use Garmin. Actually, a lot was going on that I couldn’t show. Even through bad reception, I was in contact with the dispatcher the whole time and was soooo lucky to be able to move again.
I have hiked the crack and it’s a challenging hike. I was hiking in Gros Morne a few years ago and fell flat on my face near the top of the mountain. I got a bump on my forehead the size of a goose egg, smacked my nose and twisted my knee. You have to be so aware when hiking.
Glad that you're ok and nothing more serious happened. I'm wondering if the lace hook is a good design. I'd been caught by the hook for few times when I was just normally walking.
Good for you, for sticking with it and not going home after your fall. Ouch, that looked like it really hurt. Hope you are feeling better. May I ask what time of year did you go?
The exact thing happened to me, luckily I landed ok, those hooks are dangerous I took mine off my boots right away and emailed the manufacturer of the flaw in the design of those hooks. I am happy to see you made it out out ok, take care and God bless.😇
Sorry this happened to you. Did you forget to tell people that you shouldn't be doing technical hikes with a dog leash in one hand and a selfie stick in the other? Especially a hike as technical as The Crack.
Wearing your dog on your back on a difficult hike made me nervous from the second I started this video. What if you had fallen backwards rather than forwards? Maybe best to leave the little one out of the harder routes?
