I am so glad you spend a good amount of time on traditional/slipjoint knives. I think that all too often these great pieces are lost in the modern competition of the latest and greatest in modern folders. It haa been a real joy of mine t9 “rediscovee” the beauty and craftmanship of traditional/slipjoint knives.

Those 77 single blade clip points are nice. I had one in ivory micarta. I went away from GEC and started putting my money in custom maker Todd Davison.

Nice! I had a custom slip. I ended up selling it, like most of my custom modern folders. They’re just not my thing. I have one custom left. A Jason Guthrie Scout.

My 44 (Ebony) is the only GEC I ever cut myself with - closed that snap without getting my hand out of the way! As you observe, it's such a well executed knife which packs a lot of utility for its size - it'd make it into my top 5 as well.

Got myself with my 77 clip point that was sharpened by ApostleP. Went right through the meat on my left index finger. Gotta be careful with the slip joints.

It’s very hard for me to argue with that 😂. The only knock I can see is the fact that it’s not stainless. I think rust is way way way overblown, but I know there are people with bad body chemistry and/or they want/need to work around water. Still very small groups, IMO.

Alchemy I’m not a fan of spyderco I prefer Swiss Army knives and traditional folders like rough rider and schrade Barlow pocket knives and Swiss Army knife are my favourite carry being here in uk 🇬🇧 your only legal if blades are under 3” and don’t lock So for whittling my pocket knives are razor sharp and hold edges very well you should try the Swiss Army knife especially ones with excellent saw like the camper or hiker greetings bro from the uk 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊

@@jackasswhiskyandpintobeans9344 Excellent! I wish they could have made more people happy. We need(ed) the competition in this sector of the market. Competition is good for all of the consumers. It pushes the manufacturers to step their game up and give us competitive product and competitive prices. Unfortunately, they weren’t up to the task and suffered the ultimate consequence.
I believe there was even talk about someone buying their factory/equipment, but they never panned out. I was hoping it would be GEC. It would have solved the capacity issues they seem to constantly face.

@@jackasswhiskyandpintobeans9344 I’ve had several, talked to lots of guys, and have read lots of reports. Seems very hit or miss. Better with the much older stuff, but still very iffy.
Heck, even one of their most noted knives was bad over several different runs. The Indian River Jack and those were supposed to be premium knives contracted my Derrick Bohn…RIP. Those are notorious for poor centering, gaps, etc.

Those are very cool. I’ve got 15 edc folders (most are Spydercos). Now you’ve got me interested in these. Any suggested links?

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Links to watch videos about GEC’s or buy them? I have a GEC playlist that has a decent number of videos showing different models and thoughts. I also have a video there that shows how to buy a GEC. There is a channel by the name of Knife Thoughts that has a lot of videos and good info too 👊

I hardly ever buy GEC's anymore. The PQR is just not there. I've been delving into older trads. You know what I've learned? Great Eastern Cutlery did not invent quality.
