Starfish being the only one interrupting the intended flow of the ocean song in part 3 seemingly represents how he's the only one that wasn't being puppeteered by demons. There are so many neat details in this series, I'm always revisiting it!
I like to believe that the reason that the two of them didn't notice the starfish or the time freezing randomly is because each assumed that the other was doing it.
And the fact Starfish yells and looks so terrified during the whole musical number is because he is trying to signal to Charlie "I am not a part of this, please get the hint. I just have to pretend I am or they'll notice me and eradicate me"
Upon revisit, I just noticed a fun detail: Charlie says in ep 3 that he believes maybe these two guys are just his eternal torment because maybe he happens to be dead. Blue eventually responds: "boy you're a real downer huh" in an almost irked tone. HE WAS SO CLOSE TO GUESSING THEIR NATURE.
The tone caught me off guard, they’re usually so.. upbeat? Is that the word I’m looking for? Not really. It was creepy to me, I had a feeling something was off with those two from the start.
@@BarryTheSeagullThey killed "a" Charlie the Unicorn. I'm pretty sure the old Charlie is completely different from our Charlie. The finale doesn't seem to say where Charlie came from, at least from what I can see, so the fact that he just happened to appear 10,000 years after the end of the world is more sheer happenstance than anything else.
The creepiest and most interesting the finale makes me realize is the way pink and blue walk. They are moved around like kids playing with dolls, making them “walk” by tipping them back and forth. After all, the corpses are just playthings to them
It's emphasized even more when we see the flashback to when they were still alive and e can see they walk normally (granted their legs are offscreen when they walk but you can still see the difference)
Question for everybody, you guys think Charlie the Wizard and Charlie here are somehow the same but different points in time? Since the demons killed the wizard maybe they went into the past or some alternate universe to torment a weaker version of the Wizard as revenge?
My headcannon on the scene at 44:00 when the pink unicorn’s head flew off is that it was not intentional, it just happened due to natural decay, the “goop” was the fluids in the corpse flowing out the dialog and the weird head growing out was them trying to play it off as normal and the reason the blue one told Charlie to close his eyes was to distract him while they patch up the corpse
That actually makes more sense. also considering the way Pink comes back is so random and doesn’t contribute to anything beforehand. almost as if they randomly came up with a reason for why pink was back to normal.
I love that the finale completely recontextualizes the musical segments. Specifically, the way that Pink & Blue cease all activity until the song is done. The Chaos Spirits have dropped them to use whatever other thing they want to sing.
I ended up analyzing all of their motions across episodes, including eye movements. It's very true, with only a few tiny exceptions here and there. Unfortunately, Jason confirmed directly that all of the creatures are dead, including the sea creatures passing by in the distance in the underwater episode, and my beloved Liopleurodon (everyone should try the official Charlie the Unicorn Dating Simulator if they haven't already). But I like to think otherwise. After all, unicorns are known for being magical, and horses aren't. So logically, narwhals should be twice as powerful. And maybe they couldn't save the rest of the world, but managed to maintain a stalemate and keep some aquatic societies going.
Also, that they kept trying to make Charlie happy the whole time, because ultimately what defeated the demons was Charlie just... staying depressed. Perhaps if he was actually happy, he wouldn't have been able to defeat them.
I also noticed when the pink one’s head fell off he was genuinely concerned. For all the flak he got for his negative attitude, he did actually care about the other two unicorns, despite them literally trying to kill him.
i cannot understate how much i love that the ending wasnt charlie being happy, but rather his stating in no uncertain terms that he isn't happy and that the problem isnt just "in his head"
I feel like it can be a great way of describing somebody who's finally ready to get help for depression or other mental health problems. He's considered a grump in a world where everyone around him is either living life in their own blissful delusion, or trying to make charlie feel a type of "happy" feeling that he isn't sure he should trust (before inevitably exploding into flames). There's something that isn't quite right about what they're tryna make him believe. It even gets to the point where he's following these girls and trusting them at his own expense, in a desperate attempt to escape all the chaos they bring into his life after they promised to leave him alone if he just did one more favor. But every time that trust is broken once more and he's miserable all over again with nobody there for him (except starfish it seems). Depression sucks (to say the least), but it's often a feeling you'll be battling forever. It may not seem like a big step, but simply acknowledging the problem and realizing there's more to it than simply being "broken" can change your life. Recovery isn't a destination, but a journey, and it's unfortunate to say it's a life-long one that will never truly end. And finding the root of the problem is a fairly important part of it. Charlie may never wake up one day and feel content for the rest of his days, there'll always be a bad day and another uncertain fear that something horrible will happen, but he's gotten to the point where he can now step back and acknowledge at least part of the issue. And that's a great place to start.
@@stellar__stevie I fully agree! I just have one nitpick (and I'm just going off what I've heard before, so maybe it changed or I was mistaken?) but I'm pretty sure the two other unicorns aren't really gendered
Now that I have discovered it, a decade after the first episode, I can definitely say that it's one of the things that helped Internet build its personality.
52:22 idk why but there's something unsettling about this part. Blue instantly realizing somethings wrong and getting concerned and scared just twists my heart.
The temple of the cats song is so sad when you really think about it. The song implies that it was once a sanctuary so remote that nobody ever put it on any map. The various creatures would seek it to escape the cubes. The things the cat says may be what the cat really said. “This is the temple of the cat and we’re glad you found your way. This is the temple of the cat and we hope that you can stay. Here at the temple of the cat you will always have a home. Here at the temple of the cat you will never be alone. “
Man, all those times pink and blue inflated, floated or wobbled their legs like noodles….we all had no idea it was two otherwise normal unicorns being warped and contorted from demonic possession…
Key words, "living creatures" vs. "phantom" (aka "dead") and "coat" (an article of clothing)... Im pretty sure the sea creatures are alive tho, and the cross dressing space millipede is too... You are all stupid...VIVA LA UNICORNS!!
What I love most about the finale is that Nyx is doing everything wrong. He's such a tragic character. - the demon gets released because he tells the weasels about the door - he can't warn anyone in time - his assumption of the tower being a weapon to face the demon is also wrong. It releases another demon instead, making everything even worse. But one thing I haven't seen in the comments yet is that even his assumption about entering the portal with magic is wrong. Charlie doesn't survive because of the mollusk or the foot, he survives because his name is Charlie and he is a unicorn. The security system of the tower portal is designed to let people with these properties pass. Nyx was completely wrong when it came to how to survive the portal. He has wasted 10 000 years trying to get through it and wasn't even close. Still, the magic he made Charlie absorb was needed to shut the "project" down, so while everything Nyx did was either completly wrong or didn't do what he hoped for, in the end he helped with getting the demons banned and his soul could finally let go of the world. I think Nyx En Why Ex might be my favorite character in this series.
Idk, the tower was a weapon (literally a military-grade, government-backed weapon, if we're to believe the being Charlie met in the portal), and the demon gets released because the weasels release it instead of allowing Nyx to study it. I'm also not sure that Charlie even survived tbh, literally every other episode ends with him being tricked by demons, and now he's wandering off in a world devoid of life and he *thinks* he knows what's happening, but it could just be another trick -- it always has been in the past.
Not only that, but he mimics the tragedy of Charlie's adventures Heads to a massive structure and heads into a cave that contains great horrors Proceeds to a far off land to find a great leader who can stop the darkness and sees a large banana that yields nothing Leaves to the sea and finds something stupid and pointless Meets space bugs Adventure ends at the portal
You know it really is tragic, throughout these adventures Charlie never really got to meet the creatures he encountered before the spirits possessed them and there seems to be the implication that Charlie is now well and truly the only living being left alive thanks to them
He’s not the only one left. The creator confirmed there’s more people out there. He referenced the end of ep. 4 when they wondered who was next after Charlie was thought to have died.
We've come a long way since Candy Mountain Cave. Rewatching the originals after seeing the finale is so freaky now that we know what the "unicorns" really are and how they're able to do everything. Such a satisfying conclusion after all these years.
I hope you enjoy this compilation of Charlie's many adventures. The first four episodes are now available in 1080p for the first time thanks to new exports and modern upscaling. The original Charlie the Unicorn was a 360p flash document, Charlie 2 & 3 were 360p video renders, and Charlie 4 was 720p. Now every episode has countless extra pixels. Pixels from nowhere, pixels from the void. Thank you, dear void, for the pixels. And thank you, dear viewer, for witnessing the pixels.
Imagine the endless joy those pixels experienced when they realized, when they came to being, that they were now a part of this series. Its an honour akin to being shaped into a glorious Saturn gon, I dare say
Hooray! The original plan is finally complete! First, 5 (planned to be 6) parts of the finale, and then a compilation of the entire series. -The Local Maniac (Viewer No. 727)
So, correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the musical numbers throughout the series were simply the demonic entities possessing the last surviving creatures and forcing them to sing and dance before making them explode, killing them (except for Starfish, I guess). Woah
All of the musical numbers besides the ghost weasel and coat numbers and Charlie's reprisal were dead and being puppeted by the cubes - the explosions were likely because said cubes were done playing with those toys. But otherwise this is correct
@@thatoneguy609 Nah you could tell the blue unicorn regained consciousness when the demon left. It's just seems like they prefer to kill everything immediately.
@@michaelbuckers i think this was a retelling of moment before the demons first met charlie. it doesn't begin exactly like the first episode but i belive the pink was possessed when he went to investigate then the demon in the letter y took over blue. then thats why they discussed taking y with them.
I dont think explosions is what demons do... they seem to be surprised by it. and they take charlie to the moon so he 'defeats' the millipede, presumably meaning somehow he is the cause of the explosion (bc ppl explode when they sing to him) Idk actual reason but demons exploding bodies doesn't seem right to me
i only just realized that every time there's someone singing, the two "horses" seemingly freeze. My guess is that they're controlling the people singing while also trying to keep the ponies from falling. Obviously, because they're dead. Everything makes way too much sense because of the last episode 😭
Theory: Charlie actually has inherent magic, and the demons want it, but the siphon doesn’t work right unless he’s thinking happy thoughts. They keep trying to “cheer him up” so they can siphon his magic but keep failing.
This is why it’s a metaphor for corporate entities trying to make people happy with quick fixes and reassurement so they can get their “magic” to help their profits.
HOLY SHIT. That actually works perfectly! I had a theory back in the day that Pink and Blue were trying to make Charlie happy, just via very sick and twisted methods, then take his body parts as punishment when it doesn't work (hence them only taking his stuff during episode 2, when he was almost halfway happy), but this theory builds on that and brings it all home! It fits perfectly with everything we see here! Except episode four…but I guess they DID say they were bored, maybe they just kinda gave up during that escapade - it would certainly explain why they were a lot less goofy and a lot more straightforward that episode.
yeah in that moment we sadly saw blue die. and I always wondered what would've happened if they didn't seeing how they walked in the direction where Charlie was, meaning they weren't actually that far off meeting Charlie when alive without the cubes. would've made me wonder what that would've been like. Would they want to befriend Charlie? Since Blue actually seemed like the scared type being more intimidated while Pink seemed to be more of the brave one. showing actual personality with the two before the cubes took over their minds. it really showed how the two would be like in situations where Blue would be too scared to move forward if something were to happen and Pink being the one to face it for him. So makes me wonder if Blue would either be a bit timid to talk to Charlie at first making the Pink one talk first or if they would've left him alone? I always wondered that.

50:33 that was one of the best moments in the series. After years of always screwing over Charlie and tormenting him, that one moment where they realized that they gave him a means to get back at them was one for the books.
This first came out when i was a teenager. This past spring i shared Charlie the Unicorn with my 11 yr old daughter and shes OBSESSED like i was. Thank you @filmcow for the more than precious laughs and memories ❤
I just showed my 11yo this today! 😂 But also my first time seeing 4 and 5... And just rewatching it all together so crazy ❤❤ started watching as a teen as well 🤣 still love this
This is the best commentary I have ever seen on the existential dread of supposed quick fixes for depression or other mental illnesses. Every spontaneous song telling charlie about some very simple solution to being miserable, and the idea that these things come from products of a corporate entity are all brilliant analyses of our culture's perspective on mental illness. The finale really pushes this message into the foreground of the story, but it was always there.
The first episode is about escapism, second is about importance/ material wealth, third is about people loving you, fourth is about finding love, and the last one is about finding your own way. I don't really know if any of these are right, but it's just what I can understand.
You can feel the cultural impact on this series from when it started in 2005 to where it ended in 2021. The evolution of early chaotic whimsy and adventure to despair derived from socioeconomic negligence and apathy. Blight and weasel cheeks, we all fall down.
Watching all of these episodes at once, it occurs to me that there's a hint something's not quite right in charlie's world from the very beginning. When each song is starting up or just before, Pink and Blue stop talking. I thought it was just a weird quirk they did, but the more I watched, the more I realized they would have been part of the chorus if they were so chaotically inclined. Watching the finale it hit me: If everyone up to nyx, coat and starfish were already flesh puppets, it means that the demons puppeteering Pink and Blue left the respective bodies and orchestrated the other creatures. What really gives it away now is the fact that during the songs, they're for the most part static or not present. Their eyes don't even move from the positions they were left in. Side note, the finale really ties together why Pink and Blue's shenanigans around charlie escalates, partly because he's a unicorn with the same name as their oppressor (father(?)). This series really comes back full circle.
I'm not convinced they harass him specifically because of his name. I think they just like to torment people. I think they deliberately left some people alive after their initial rampage to make sure there's always someone around to torment. Maybe they picked Charlie because of his name, maybe they picked him at random and chose to prolong his torment because of his name, or maybe it's all a coincidence and they're just doing what they always do.
Well it was basically as wrong as possible. He was one of the only things still alive in the world. It's just that the earth has become a Hell of its own.
@@tiffanybeck1806it’s pointing out that blue and pink can sense the pauses in time, and have been able to the whole time but were just pretending not to (for funzies I guess?)
@@asentientcactus Nah they didn't perceive anything while time was frozen. The 3rd time it happened, they just saw Charlie disappear from their perspective. That's why Blue only asked at that point.
@@greg77389 I interpreted it as they could sense time stopping and they both just assumed the other one was doing it, only realizing at the last stop that it wasn't them doing it.
@@ezralegum6236 its pretty easy - almost all 10,000 years ago scenes from 5 in order - All Fall Down/Furry Butt (confirmed to be several years after Nyx is killed) - demons kill pink - Charlie 1-4 in their entirety - all present day scenes from 5
Thinking realistic, it wont. Took years just for the first one to get 38+ million (not to mention the 68+ million it took for the one not on this channel)
I really love how not only can everyone watch the whole series from beginning to end now in one video, but it’s also the best version of all the videos. Hopefully this becomes the default way to watch the series now. It deserves to be experienced at its best.
Honestly, I grew out of enjoying the first four parts of the series. I liked them when I was younger and had a different sense of humor. Today I think it's all too brutal and too much based on shock. The finale though? That's amazing. Makes the rest of the series worth it again. Also makes it make sense, which is a big plus in my book.
Or... the magic they absorbed rewrote history across many realities (including yours) to make him a unicorn named Charlie in order to satisfy the conditions to let them through.
In retrospect it's kind of crazy how much damage only 2 demons did to the world. I mean one was really buffed on OG Charlie's magic but still, an entire army of them would be devastating.
What's interesting is we don't know which one killed Charlie the Sorcerer, all we know is one of the many did. I'm curious to know how they managed to reverse the siphon, the symbol wasn't reversed, it was only flipped up like to close.
@@Metametheus They didn't reverse the siphon. The siphon was always that way. Charlie wanted to sell them as superweapons to the military, they're designed to siphon the magic from others into themselves.
the fact that Charlie was truly alone this entire time and just accepted that these incredibly destructive unicorns were taking his organs Willy nilly and slowly stopped resisting their requests … phew…
I wonder how he lived his entire life without meeting anyone else that is actually alive. We haven't seen any in this series, and Charlie mentioned not having seen anyone in a long while when seeing Pink and Blue for the first time, so who did he see before??
@@billieroseaudette2455 I imagine the surviving creatures spread themselves out really thin to avoid attracting attention of the inescapable threat that annihilates them otherwise. They no longer remember what the threat is, since pretty much no one gets to see the cubes and live, but they know they gotta do it. So Charlie's father left before he was born, and his mother left shortly after he became able to survive on his own, because that seemed the safest.
The scary part is if Blue didn't make that little mistake he would've completely gaslit Charlie to the point where he wouldn't had worked with Nyx, he'd had believed he truly was dead and nothing was real. Thankfully the demons' whimsical natures betrayed them and they never even realized it, but it's scary just how close they were to breaking Charlie.
So the first escaped chaos spirit was the one that killed CEO sorcerer Charlie, took his magic and was locked behind the door the weasels opened, and the second came out because Nyx turned the wheel opening the portal, and that all happened 10000 years before so these demons have been around ever since and took their form as unicorns they killed (imaging their 'creator') before stumbling into Charlie they decided to misguide and torture like they did with others. The markings on the horn tower makes the top look like the seal on the chaos spirits that Charlie breaks using the mindscape realizer and sends back the chaos spirits to their realm with his magic, freeing startaur that was made part of the seal as a wheel by Charlie the CEO sourcerer. Surely didn't expect this kind of depth and only just found this to be existing. Hats off, this was absolutely great and tied everything together in one big ending, the songs were great as well.. I really loved the idea of a CEO sorcerer unicorn weaponizing chaos spirits dooming himself and the world because of profit projections, and Charlie the unicorn being the true one unicorn that would be able to mend it by being who he is and of course the devoted startaur being trapped in several states fueling him with unpleasant but necessary magic items to prepare and undo it all. This was extremely creative, so again, hats of to you and the team making it. Great work!
Listening to Banana song now, it felt like the demonic cubes wants Charlie to stay in denial of how bad the world can be as we saw now. And with the final song, it shows a valuable lesson that with how crazy and messed up our world is as of now: We can't force us into La-la land and we had to do something about it While it is valid to use positive stuff to calm your mentality, but we still have to remember this
It was crazy to realize the message that banana song had when i looked back at the lyrics after watching the finale. I always took it as nonsense for years but in conjunction with all the other episodes it really isnt
I love how you not only managed to make the entire series make complete sense, but also made the previous episodes retroactively creepier! Absolutely insane

Theory: The bat was actually protecting the gate because it knew the weasles was afraid of it so it stayed there the whole time and even if the demons was released, it continued to stay and guard the gate in case the demons has been recaptured already and behind the gate.
Beyond the storytelling and the moral of the whole series, this is without a doubt such a comedic masterpiece. It's insane how each joke and each gag work absolutely perfectly. I laughed my ass off at every attempt at humor. Nothing short of astounding and brilliant. You deserve all the love you get
Its been a hell of a ride, a ride many probably didnt believe would ever get finished. Thank you for all the hard work put into entetrtaining total strangers all over the world and good luck on your next big thing.
I'm frustrated there aren't more people talking about the finale. I will share this all I can, I even want to make fanart. What an unexpected and meaningful end. I didn't expect I'd come out of this feeling incredibly emotionally attached to Charlie and identifying with him. People accusing you of being a pessimist when you have good reason to feel the way you feel, and the morale that you shouldn't forge your happiness to satiate other people. A rare but wonderfully conveyed message that I didn't realize I needed to hear. I hope Charlie finds solace and real friends who understand him and care for him. Again, I never thought I'd feel seen by Charlie the Unicorn. Been through a lot of rough times and mourning people I've had to cut out of my life, who were bad for me yet convinced me I've been the problem the whole time...all in this past year, so this was incredibly timely to watch. Thank you FilmCow. Excellent work wrapping up a series as usual. This finale might be my favorite thing you've ever made.
I feel kinda sad There is no one left for Charlie This happened over a 10000 year time period in which every city person and space bug were turned into meat puppets or blood-splosions All the plant life and oceans were a chaos demon fuelled imagination (which probs explains why he was able to breath under water) All in all Charlie is what he’s wanted from epi 1 Alone
Even after the finale, 90% of tumblr posts tagged as charlie the unicorn is just the same first episode quotes tagged #nostalgiacore. The Finale deserves so much better for real. I bring it up to people whenever I can, and I hope I'll make some fan content in the future too.
It did sound a bit more playful to me, like they were letting the magic absorbing happen in the finale as part of their fun and allowing the previous time freezes just to see Nyx fail again(or maybe get another spirit to join in on their fun).
I know, right? It felt so.. "out of character" because it literally was. Charlie's not around, they have no reason to keep up character. All they know is Charlie's gone, they didn't do it, which I feel like would be pretty panicking if you've been nearly almighty your whole life.
Mine is just a bit down the line, when Charlie gets through the portal to Old Charlie's workshop. And fails to explode. And one demon goes "...Huh." You can feel that's absolutely out of anything they'd expected.
I love this series wholeheartedly. Sad that pink and blue were just demonic puppets messing with Charlie. It's still nice to imagine a "what if" scenario where they all meet and hang out as their actual selves to get to know how pink and blue actually are, not having been possessed by demons.
I love when they weren't possesed, the genuine concern you can see on Blue's face, right before his body is hijacked, and it falls down. we all fall down. also hopefully after defeating the cubes they're normal again? Or maybe they instantly turned to dust after so long.
sadly they were already dead when the cubes took over their bodies since if you remember the cube once saying "Hey I kiled your friend. I didn't even have to think about it!" meaning they don't have to do much just push their souls out without much of any hassle. sadly I believe their bodies probably crashed or turned to dust when the cubes went back in.
the last time charlie the unicorn was in my consciousness, i was a child and i didn't understand it. I just laughed at the absurdity. i am so happy to be watching it in its entirety on this very day, and to comprehend the sheer genius...a powerful commentary on existence, delivered with that unique aesthetic only Jason Steele could make. i wished this series was powerful enough to wake people up and fight the stupid system we're in, but alas...there were only 3 magic items, not 5
I was today years old when I realized I never finished this series. And also realizing I was EXTREMELY naive when I started watching this. 😅 Hard to believe it has been 17 years since the first episode.
I just realized that the things possessing the blue and red unicorns are essentially just really bored morbid godlike children. They’re basically just playing with Charlie, making up weird adventures with childlike with silly musical numbers. The moon happened only because they were bored of Charlie, and decided to do one last silly adventure with him to discard their sentient toy, however, Starfish had other plans, and so the godlike whatever thingies became entertained for yet another little moment.
I think the demons were their own downfall. Their magic is what kept Nyx around as a ghost. "I want you to watch it all fall apart." Once their influence is gone, nyx disappears too.
ive been following this series since the very beginning, i was still in elementary school! now im out of college. its crazy how this silly amazing show about demented unicorns was such a large staple in my life, and many others too. thank you so much filmcow for creating this amazing cultural phenomenon 💖
Same i was six the first time i watched this now im 22 its insane to think about. I wouldnt even know about the finale if i hadnt gotten randomly nostalgic and searched it up
I think I was in middle school when I watched the the first ones but I also just out of college. I have always loved this series but I never expected it to actually have a finale back in the beginning. This is quite bizarre.
Man, this was a trip. I absolutely loved Charlie the Unicorn as a kid, probably when I was around 5 or 6 onward. I would quote it until I drove people crazy and would draw pictures of the characters to hang on my grandma's fridge. I'm in my 20s now, getting my first proper job after graduating college and becoming fully independent. My grandmother, who's fridge the drawings would go on, is currently in hospice battling with pneumonia brought on by covid, struggling to talk and breathe; we're not sure how many more days we will have her for. Thinking of where I was when I first discovered Charlie the Unicorn vs where I am now, when this final part is posted, is having a strangely profound effect on me. Thank you for your work and the times I've been able to have with it. It'll always hold a special place in my heart.
As a zoomer who grew up only knowing about this series from random 2000s memes, I though this series was just going to be a byproduct of the "random=funny" type of humor that was popular back when I was a todler. Having just watched it, It's actually pretty funny and surreal on its own and, weirdly enough, very interpretable. Like, this series could be commentary on corporatism, bureaucracy, mental health, absurdism, all of those things simultaneusly or neither at the same time. It's super well-made and I curse myself for not having watched it earlier.
I remember starting Charlie the Unicorn: The Grand Finale. I thought, “Did I miss something? Am I supposed to know these people?” Nope, I was completely up to date after all these years. The series really just lay dormant for the better part of a decade.
This series is not just an integral part of my childhood, but the steady pace of development means its almost part of me as a person now. Thank you Jason for the amazingly weird and hilarious stories.

I can just remember the time my step-cousin would binge all the episodes with me in early 2012 and we both just quote them at random intervals to see the confused stares of our family. I don't know where she is nowadays, but I hope she also watches this and remembers those times...Really do miss them...
I was reading through comments while the video played in the background and as soon as I started on this one the Starfish started saying it, the timing could not have been more perfect
It's a nice little detail that during the musical numbers, Roffle and Lolz are almost entirely motionless. That's cuz they're using their energy to puppeteer the other creatures.
2:07 is one of the funniest scenes ever to me. something about how he just teleports all over the place and then to right back to where he began, idk why it makes me laugh so hard 🤣
I wonder if the reason why Charlie looks like a rotoscoped unicorn compared to the cartoony creatures and Charlie the Sorcerer is because in-universe, there’s not much magic left after Pink and Blue’s havoc so all the surviving creatures are just ‘normal’ creatures, with no more magic in them.
My sister played llamas with hats for me when I was really young, that’s what got me into all the animated TH-cam shows (HH,HB,metal family, murder drones) I love this ❤
With Llamas With Hats and Charlie the Unicorn completed, I'm hoping the next step is a continuation of Shadowstone Park. I liked the more serious tone that series had going for it. Ghost House is funny but kinda mindless. Spatula Madness is great but I feel like it wouldn't catch on as well, though I definitely wouldn't complain about a continuation of that either.
Because Shadowstone Park was a commissioned series, and only three episodes were commissioned, Jason couldn't do much with that series. However, on Reddit, he said something along the lines of finally being allowed to produce more episodes now that some legal bindings have expired. The only thing holding him back at this point is how expensive it would be to conclude the series.
@@gamergoku932 I always wondered why he never continued that series when it was clearly one of his strongest works. Now that all of that is out of the way, I hope he does choose to continue it, even if it'd be expensive to do so. I think it's the most deserving of his unfinished animations.
I appreciate the effort put into finishing what you started. The first episode felt like a sitcom while the finale tied everything up together so well! The music was amazing, the animations and design were unique in adding to the eerie and funny nature of the series. This was done with so much love, and I loved it too ❤️
Masterful! I love how it manages to make us feel sad and nostalgic for what is literally just a crazy mix of silly things. God, I love it. I am this series' starfish.
I have fond memories of going to school in 6th grade and my friend saying "hey have you seen Charlie the unicorn?" And showing me the first three. I think it was maybe a month or so later the fourth came out, and we were so excited. I'm glad to have been on this ride with Charlie, all these years
I remember smiling throughout the entire finale, and made a couple of references to my mother after watching it to what she did not get. I told her they were from the finale of Charlie the unicorn and she says oh I remember Charlie the unicorn with the pink and purple unicorns and the Candy Mountain song. I asked her if she seen the other ones and she said no! So we’re going to sit down tonight and watch them all! Its will be a blast!
52:01 if im understanding this right, these two- or at least just blue, isn't a corpse. They were allowed one moment of terrified clarity as the chaos spirit tried something new. Edit: no, wait, we just saw the moment they both died.
I feel so blessed to have grown up watching this series and then as a grown up being able to be a part of the filmcow/vgv fan community with you all. Congratulations again Jason! The up-scaling looks great.
So I know this is going to be a bit weird but. FilmCow thank you for making these, they brought me smiles and laughs when I needed them most as a teen, but now I thank you for helping my mostly non-verbal autistic toddler to repeat words and added new words for him. Thank you for everything.
Starfish being the only one interrupting the intended flow of the ocean song in part 3 seemingly represents how he's the only one that wasn't being puppeteered by demons.
There are so many neat details in this series, I'm always revisiting it!
WISH UPON ME MY LOVE
I like to believe that the reason that the two of them didn't notice the starfish or the time freezing randomly is because each assumed that the other was doing it.
@@kajsdhflkaSE probably you are right, they have acknowledged that once in the finale
And the fact Starfish yells and looks so terrified during the whole musical number is because he is trying to signal to Charlie "I am not a part of this, please get the hint. I just have to pretend I am or they'll notice me and eradicate me"
@@HalloTschuess omg that makes sense
Upon revisit, I just noticed a fun detail: Charlie says in ep 3 that he believes maybe these two guys are just his eternal torment because maybe he happens to be dead. Blue eventually responds: "boy you're a real downer huh" in an almost irked tone.
HE WAS SO CLOSE TO GUESSING THEIR NATURE.
The tone caught me off guard, they’re usually so.. upbeat? Is that the word I’m looking for? Not really. It was creepy to me, I had a feeling something was off with those two from the start.

Yeah i just now realize that
I mean, on technicallity, they did kill Charlie a long time ago
@@BarryTheSeagullThey killed "a" Charlie the Unicorn. I'm pretty sure the old Charlie is completely different from our Charlie. The finale doesn't seem to say where Charlie came from, at least from what I can see, so the fact that he just happened to appear 10,000 years after the end of the world is more sheer happenstance than anything else.
The creepiest and most interesting the finale makes me realize is the way pink and blue walk. They are moved around like kids playing with dolls, making them “walk” by tipping them back and forth. After all, the corpses are just playthings to them
Omg I never noticed that
wow
It's emphasized even more when we see the flashback to when they were still alive and e can see they walk normally (granted their legs are offscreen when they walk but you can still see the difference)
Question for everybody, you guys think Charlie the Wizard and Charlie here are somehow the same but different points in time? Since the demons killed the wizard maybe they went into the past or some alternate universe to torment a weaker version of the Wizard as revenge?
@@Floweramon when was tgat
My headcannon on the scene at 44:00 when the pink unicorn’s head flew off is that it was not intentional, it just happened due to natural decay, the “goop” was the fluids in the corpse flowing out the dialog and the weird head growing out was them trying to play it off as normal and the reason the blue one told Charlie to close his eyes was to distract him while they patch up the corpse
That actually makes more sense. also considering the way Pink comes back is so random and doesn’t contribute to anything beforehand. almost as if they randomly came up with a reason for why pink was back to normal.
That is literally so creepy but makes so much sense.
blue even sounds a bit nervouse and uneasy in that part too
I can't believe I've never considered this. It's gotta be true. Like they legit didn't know their heads could fall off while they were possessing.
That’s true though
Also, that they kept trying to make Charlie happy the whole time, because ultimately what defeated the demons was Charlie just... staying depressed. Perhaps if he was actually happy, he wouldn't have been able to defeat them.
"They're corpses.puppeted by demons." "Wow really? That's... That really upsets me"
I love this part. It's very sweet.
yea it's because nyx is probably one of the few genuine individuals charlie can actually hold an intelligent conversation with

Yeah he's not even happy he's just... Even more confused

I love how the first song sung by actual living creatures in this musical magical macabre series is a love song between a ghost weasel and a coat
The weasel was already a phantom.
The only completely alive song was Charlie's.
"living creatures" "ghost"
By alive they probably mean the first song not sung by a corpse puppeted by a corporate demon
Key words, "living creatures" vs. "phantom" (aka "dead") and "coat" (an article of clothing)... Im pretty sure the sea creatures are alive tho, and the cross dressing space millipede is too... You are all stupid...VIVA LA UNICORNS!!
🥗
What I love most about the finale is that Nyx is doing everything wrong. He's such a tragic character.
- the demon gets released because he tells the weasels about the door
- he can't warn anyone in time
- his assumption of the tower being a weapon to face the demon is also wrong.
Not only that, but he mimics the tragedy of Charlie's adventures
Heads to a massive structure and heads into a cave that contains great horrors
Proceeds to a far off land to find a great leader who can stop the darkness and sees a large banana that yields nothing
Leaves to the sea and finds something stupid and pointless
Meets space bugs
Adventure ends at the portal

@@bloodstoneore4630 Oh my god, you're right, I hadn't thought about that!

"Then you understand why it needs to be protected by an order of weasels?"
"... I understand why it requires protection, yes."

Sad that the original hosts of the “Unicorns” was just as normal as Charley but never got to live life the way they wanted. Sad indeed.
Thank you Jason for this wonderful series. It's been an incredible adventure! I look forward to what you have in stock in the future!

I’m pretty sure they were already dead; being taken control of by the demons kills you instantly.

I dont think explosions is what demons do... they seem to be surprised by it. and they take charlie to the moon so he 'defeats' the millipede, presumably meaning somehow he is the cause of the explosion (bc ppl explode when they sing to him)
Idk actual reason but demons exploding bodies doesn't seem right to me
Charlie: "I have a magical foot inside me... and some mucus"
Starfish: "And a mollusk!".
i only just realized that every time there's someone singing, the two "horses" seemingly freeze. My guess is that they're controlling the people singing while also trying to keep the ponies from falling. Obviously, because they're dead.

This is a really good comment. I looked at this entire movie with this in mind and yea, I completely see it. Insane to think.
The first episode is about escapism, second is about importance/ material wealth, third is about people loving you, fourth is about finding love, and the last one is about finding your own way. I don't really know if any of these are right, but it's just what I can understand.

Great work!
This is the magnum opus of all TH-cam story telling animation
Listening to Banana song now, it felt like the demonic cubes wants Charlie to stay in denial of how bad the world can be as we saw now. And with the final song, it shows a valuable lesson that with how crazy and messed up our world is as of now: We can't force us into La-la land and we had to do something about it
While it is valid to use positive stuff to calm your mentality, but we still have to remember this
It was crazy to realize the message that banana song had when i looked back at the lyrics after watching the finale. I always took it as nonsense for years but in conjunction with all the other episodes it really isnt
what
It was also the only time charlie smiled and got happy
But if they were trying to make him happy, why did they mess with him and steal his?
I love how you not only managed to make the entire series make complete sense, but also made the previous episodes retroactively creepier!

You deserve all the love you get
CHARLIE. YOURE A DREAM MACHINE
✨Dream Machine✨
Its been a hell of a ride, a ride many probably didnt believe would ever get finished. Thank you for all the hard work put into entetrtaining total strangers all over the world and good luck on your next big thing.
I cried to the upload of the ending and now I’m crying to the banana king
Anyone know why it took him so long to make the finale? Was he just bored of the concept?
@@ANIMAL.LOVERS.DONT.EAT.ANIMALS I know he took the loss of his cat hard, so he took a long break. She was the one from the credits, Luca.
Why is Bigfoot in your pfp
Now to wait for star citizen to be finished being made
I'm frustrated there aren't more people talking about the finale.
I feel kinda sad
There is no one left for Charlie
This happened over a 10000 year time period in which every city person and space bug were turned into meat puppets or blood-splosions
All the plant life and oceans were a chaos demon fuelled imagination (which probs explains why he was able to breath under water)
All in all Charlie is what he’s wanted from epi 1
Alone
Even after the finale, 90% of tumblr posts tagged as charlie the unicorn is just the same first episode quotes tagged #nostalgiacore. The Finale deserves so much better for real. I bring it up to people whenever I can, and I hope I'll make some fan content in the future too.
50:40 that would be an actually pretty decent melancholic song to listen to, if it weren't with the uh, coats lyrics.
There are versions on TH-cam without the coat and with only the coat

When my girlfriend first watched this, she said “this song actually isn’t bad. I kinda like it.”
The the coat came in. She spoke a little too soon.
@@vidblogger12 aye, that she did.
"Was that you?"
*mildly panicked* "No."
Hands down the best moment in this saga.
And one demon goes "...Huh."
You can feel that's absolutely out of anything they'd expected.
Having only seen the first 2 episodes previously… I didn’t realize how deeply this got fleshed out, damn
I love this series wholeheartedly. Sad that pink and blue were just demonic puppets messing with Charlie. It's still nice to imagine a "what if" scenario where they all meet and hang out as their actual selves to get to know how pink and blue actually are, not having been possessed by demons.
Yeah same :(
im mad at myself for reading this comment before i got to that twist
Yeah, that one scene where blue didn't have the demon in him he sounded really quite reasonable and less like a psychopath
I would like to see an epilogue where Charlie meets the ghosts of blue and pink and meets their real selves
500th like
I love when they weren't possesed, the genuine concern you can see on Blue's face, right before his body is hijacked, and it falls down. we all fall down. also hopefully after defeating the cubes they're normal again? Or maybe they instantly turned to dust after so long.
They were killed instantly when the demons possessed them, sadly. They're puppeteered corpses. So sad :(
They die instantly in the process of turning into a corpse puppet. The now lifeless corpses probably fell to the ground when the cubes were captured.
I'd assume they blew up into dust, given the blue and pink sparkles after theyre pulled back into the portal
sadly they were already dead when the cubes took over their bodies since if you remember the cube once saying "Hey I kiled your friend. I didn't even have to think about it!" meaning they don't have to do much just push their souls out without much of any hassle.
sadly I believe their bodies probably crashed or turned to dust when the cubes went back in.
@@SecretSwiftyI didn’t even think of that that’s actually really sad
the last time charlie the unicorn was in my consciousness, i was a child and i didn't understand it.
Hard to believe it has been 17 years since the first episode.
"I want you to watch it all fall apart."
Once their influence is gone, nyx disappears too.
I think it's more that Nyx had unfinished business in terms of stopping the demons, and once it was over he could move on.
Nah the AMA said that nyx had unfinished business so he basically took over while da weasel and coat moved on peacefully
ive been following this series since the very beginning, i was still in elementary school! now im out of college. its crazy how this silly amazing show about demented unicorns was such a large staple in my life, and many others too. thank you so much filmcow for creating this amazing cultural phenomenon 💖
Stay strong friend
As a zoomer who grew up only knowing about this series from random 2000s memes, I though this series was just going to be a byproduct of the "random=funny" type of humor that was popular back when I was a todler. Having just watched it, It's actually pretty funny and surreal on its own and, weirdly enough, very interpretable. Like, this series could be commentary on corporatism, bureaucracy, mental health, absurdism, all of those things simultaneusly or neither at the same time. It's super well-made and I curse myself for not having watched it earlier.
After 15 long years ... finally I have closure
I remember starting Charlie the Unicorn: The Grand Finale. I thought, “Did I miss something? Am I supposed to know these people?”
Nope, I was completely up to date after all these years. The series really just lay dormant for the better part of a decade.
This series is not just an integral part of my childhood, but the steady pace of development means its almost part of me as a person now. Thank you Jason for the amazingly weird and hilarious stories.
Starfish: Yeess, the (unicorn) is now part of you forever (rbesfe), you shall never be rid of it!
@11:50 it's funny how when Charlie mentions this, Blue drops the facade a little. Probably when they knew they had run out of fun with Charlie.
Holy shit
yea, their voice is a little deeper than usual, matching blue’s original voice from before they were possessed

Got to love the fact that combined length of Charlie the Unicorn episodes 1-4 are all shorter than Charlie the Unicorn Finale
The finale also added plot beyond these two unicorns fucking with Charlie.
It really did not feel like a Charlie the unicorn thing. Completely out of place nonsense that they just shoehorned the three horses and starfish in.
I love how his accent always changes from British to Bostonian to New York.

I was reading through comments while the video played in the background and as soon as I started on this one the Starfish started saying it, the timing could not have been more perfect
All the time Hearing starfish telling Charlie he loves him always makes me laugh
It's a nice little detail that during the musical numbers, Roffle and Lolz are almost entirely motionless. That's cuz they're using their energy to puppeteer the other creatures.

Wow now that it's in HD you can see all the details you missed before like Charlie's five o'clock shadow and his Rip Tolls tattoo.
is this a joke or am i missing something
I know right? It's like watching a completely different series! :O
I never noticed the duck boat crying tears of blood before, so yeah.
We need to know the deep and compelling lore behind Marshmellow People first. Oh and the cloak
Or we could get more Nintendo Stock Updates I would definitely invest in that
@@pacotaco1246 Funny enough I made the same joke on the original Part 4 video. But realistically please no lmfao that series does NOT need deep lore.
@@gamergoku932 I always wondered why he never continued that series when it was clearly one of his strongest works. Now that all of that is out of the way, I hope he does choose to continue it, even if it'd be expensive to do so. I think it's the most deserving of his unfinished animations.
I really, really need a Coat and Norwell spin-off.
🐈
We got one today
I have good news
I appreciate the effort put into finishing what you started. The first episode felt like a sitcom while the finale tied everything up together so well! The music was amazing, the animations and design were unique in adding to the eerie and funny nature of the series. This was done with so much love, and I loved it too ❤️

holy shit I just noticed he's technically right, after all the demons killed the original charlie and are just torturing the current one
13:05 THE FACT THAT THE BACKGROUND IS THE DESTROYED CITY FROM LLAMAS WITH HATS?!
Holy shit
And maybe also the city of the sea that nyx was in
Man im not gonna lie, this show made having the name charlie a living hell for like 15 years.
God, I still remember this stuff from grade school. Good on you for giving this classic series a well-deserved send off after all these years.
a fanfic between a weasel phantom and his husband that is a coat is definitely something i would read
The kidney part never fails to make me laugh and fill me with joy
So I know this is going to be a bit weird but. FilmCow thank you for making these, they brought me smiles and laughs when I needed them most as a teen, but now I thank you for helping my mostly non-verbal autistic toddler to repeat words and added new words for him. Thank you for everything.
