  • We get started modeling by taking a look at the THINGS in the world of our software system.
How do we specify them in a way that works the same for all platforms?
How do we dig into executable detail without specifying an implementation?
We get started testing our assumptions at the very beginning.
Actually, get started with these two videos first and this one will make a lot more sense!

Excellent start. Quickly gets to critical, essential characteristics of the method. Can't wait to see the next one!

Another excellent module from Leon. I have a lot to say, but I'll keep it brief. I've used this approach in many industries. Leon's examples so far have focused on physical entities, but I've also used this technique successfully in financial applications, where most of the entities are intangible (account, forex futures etc.). They are no less mission-critical because billions of dollars may ride on correct business solutions.
I've worked as a developer, a software designer and a business analyst. Modeling has helped me in all those roles. What Leon describes in this module is what I call "The Talking Model". As a business analyst, the models I create speak back to me, saying: "Bozo, here's something that's inconsistent; it doesn't make sense." Or "Bozo, here's a hole you need to fix by asking these specific questions of the subject-matter experts." When the model stops nagging me, I know I'm as close as I'm ever going to get to complete understanding.
