Black-backed Jackal (Canis mesomelas) Animal Call & Video | Kruger's Small Predators
The Black-backed Jackal (Canis mesomelas) is a favourite of ours. These small fox or dog-like carnivores are fairly common in the Kruger National Park, especially during the twilight and night hours.
We were lucky enough to see a pair hanging around a Lion Kill near Orpen rest Camp, approximately 7 kilometers from the Camp. Black-backed Jackals are always hard to photograph and video because they never seem to stop moving, so we made the best of the sighting as we could.
