Well...in the books Ciri was created and behave like a boy, the time she spent in kaer Morhen with other Witchers and training make her act like a boy, not even Triss despite the effort was able to make her behave like a lady, and... she spent a time with a gang called 'rats' and she had a girlfriend called Mistle in the book (Baptism of fire from 1996), remember her rose tattoo in her leg when she was in that sauna in skellige? Yes both Ciri and her lover made the same tattoo as a 'love pact'. And that's the fun part, some people who played the games never read the books or simply forgot, despite the games ins't canon they use pratically every reference from the books, and canon or not it still a sequel from the books, and problably and most certainly, devs will use Ciri's bissexuality during the 'caliente' parts, and the same people who complained about her ''ugliness'' will complain about her sexual orientation crying and saying ''That's not my Ciri''
I was just debating someone about this the other day. He said he refuses to buy the game because he's a man and he won't romance a man. I told him, good for you! Ciri is a bisexual! He proceeded to get mad and tell me that she in fact was not a bisexual, that they made her gay because the games are woke. Can't make this shit up. People are ridiculous with this woke nonsense. When I noticed the white braid and knew it was Ciri under the hood I did feel a bit of worry over how she would appear like given the current state of western game development but I was so pleasently surprised. She looks like a perfect mix of grit and beauty in my opinion, and yet I went online afterwards and people where STILL mad lmao ..

I've known this game since 2010, played Witcher 1 2 3 they even produced a game on Mobile Called Witcher Arena but was cancelled that one too is a good game on Android, and I must say after all those years the Witcher hasn't let me down it keeps getting better then part 3 came and it was a Masterpiece, sadly the ORIGINAL Core creator of the Witcher that built its foundation left CDPR. I Dont like the Trailer of this new part 4 the concept seems forced and generic and yes that new looks of Ciri really disappointed me. Been a fan of CDPR for 14 years now and after all that 7 years of waiting all I get is this lame trailer? Actually I wasn´t very happy that CIri plays the main role in Witcher 4, as I found her character very bland in Witcher 3. But the trailer surprised me, she looks more serious and real now. I like her older version.

I’m not gonna lie I used to like Endymion when his opinions were balanced but he has gone way beyond fair criticism, to the point his content caters to the lowest denominator of viewer. The movement appears to have completely lost its collective mind where we are comparing fucking skull shapes in 3rd party trailers. I don’t think that his personal beef with CDPR after a bunch of the devs called him out by name helps either. Seems like this is a one man war against the company and his viewers are along for the ride.

I have no problem with Ciri as a protagonist, all I want for her is not to walk with a bitter, pissed, bossy face all game long.I want CDPR to make Ciri acting as Ciri.She can be mean , bad Witcher when entering the fight or after drinking potions. That is all.
There are some lore and narrative traps the devs can fall into by making Ciri a fully mutated witcher, but there are inverviews where they say they've been preparing for this story for years now and besides the narrative team they have also a dedicated LORE team working on this game. They also say they're putting much care into making a game which is cohesive with established lore and that they don't want to make anything out of place regarding the witcher's world. I think there's a pretty good chance that we will get a really well fleshed out character and a cool grounded story with this one. We'll see. As to how she looks... It's adequate to what she has been through and what she has become. If someone is expecting that a mutated trained killer with a history of abuse, tragedy and physicall hardships will look like a model, then their parents should really take care and provide them with a game that is age-appropriate instead of one that is meant for adults. PS: Endymion unfortunately turned into a drama grifting content farmer some time ago now. I see that I'm doing myself a favor by ignoring his channel.
I had a friend parroting Endymion's take on The Witcher 4 trailer, and I asked what was so sanitized about it, and he couldn't tell. The anti-woke crowd became as rabid and offended as the ones they claim to fight. I guess that horseshoe theory thing was correct after all.

I am with you here, this trailer was awesome. I saw it as we've gone a few years into the future, Ciri's been doing witcher things and leading a rough life with some scars to show for it -- meanwhile Geralt is off unicorning around with Yen (or Triss in my playthru, but I'm just a sucker for a redhead). The whole trailer to me felt thematically like a natural progression of the story told in 3. With the way media has gone lately I can understand the fear of a company sacrificing story at the altar of inclusivity, but this didn't trigger that worry in me at all.

@@atlusavalon6745 I'd agree with you on the TV show, its a good example of sacrificing story for inclusivity. Ciri was always a main character and focus of the story. That said, there are many questions to answer here (like the trailer hinting she went thru the trial of the grasses, why is she using elemental magic instead of her elder powers, etc...). To me though, this seems like a natural progression of the current story from 3 where the white frost/elder blood arch gets resolved, Gealt 'retires', Ciri getting the silver sword at the end, etc. If the argument is it should have shifted to someone like Eskel; I think that might work better as a different parallel story, but not so much as a continuation of the current story. I'm cautiously optimistic here -- they've done a good job with the story historically, and this trailer hit a lot of the right beats for me to continue being optimistic.

Geralt and yen are more than a century old. By the witcher 3 ciri is a fully actualized person and character, the individual in the trailer is not ciri.
This along with Asmons take have been the most sane take ive seen post game awards. Exactly what I was thinking with endimions video. I seriously thought after that video he either hasnt played any of the witcher games or hes farming content. The trailer was solid, Ciris older, the biggest concern is lore and after watching some of the videos from the dev team im not very concerned about the lore.

Does she have her formal powers, if yes - then why go for mutations, if not - how did she lose them. I really don't wanna see some lazy writing akin to "Dany kinda forgot about the Iron Fleet" just so they can force the outcome of Ciri mutating so she can use potions, concoctions, mutagens and signs for gameplay purposes. Ciri grew up to be fighter since her childhood, the whole intro sequence of the Witcher 3 is her training in Kaer Morhen. There were even people thinking it was a boy back when the game released, because of her boyish attitude as a youngster, only to discover she's a girl later on 😂

for me, TW4 is a wait and see. With the trailer, the lighting and camera framed her face a bit odd but re watching it in other frames she looks fine. There are two factors to keep in mind. 1. Hair. Hair has a big impact on how a face looks. 2. Its a cinematic. so compared to ingame things can and will change (not to mention the new engine). But what I am skeptical about is her transformation into a Witcher. Vesemir was the last known Witcher with the knowledge about the trails of the grass (we know of). Geralt, Yen, Triss etc. would never let Ciri do this procedure. The trails of the grass is a extreme high risk, like only 20% of boys survived, girls and adults (if there where any) never. The common consensus amonst witchers that they hated to be witchers in the first place and they want the knowledge of the trials to be forever forgotten, so no one would ever need to endure what they have endured. So it goes against so much we know of the World making Ciri a true Witcher, but again, its wait and see. The only way I see to make it logical is that Ciri would otherwise die and the Trails are the only chance to save her. Since she is the child of providence, making her a Witcher could be a way of nerfing her (considering her gameplay in TW3) and also the only female and adult to have a chance to survive it.
She looks fine throughout the trailer, but her first reveal looks a little off….but what’s weird is it’s that ONE scene, everywhere else is fine. But her voice acting? Horrible. God awful. No conviction in her lines whatsoever. Redo every single one. Even with Geralt’s mutations, he had conviction in his words. Ciri sounded like she did a 1st take on the lines.

I started watching Endymion in like early 2022, For those 2 years i was mostly agreeing with all his takes, but with this one he got under my skin. I'm a polish dude. I have spent some time also in Slovakia. I visited multiple folk museums. In Poland we have whole literature epoch dedicated to folk fascination and if i had to describe new look of a Ciri in a single world it would be - archetype. She looks exactly like most beautiful folk woman you could find there on photos, paintings etc. Endymion pointed out her supposed to be different bone structure. I literally watched trailer 10 times pausing multiple times, comparing with tons of my screenshots from W3 and i found... nothing. Nothing in difference. She is just older, more hawk looking Slavic woman (she can either become a plump, but that's not an option for a witcher). In terms of her becoming witcher - is it against the lore? Yes. Is it against the will of Geralt? Yes. Is there any plot hole that CDPR could lever to make Ciri a Witcher? YES and surprisingly Endymion even mentioned it in his video! Hen Ichaer leaves a lot of space for discussion and creativity since we know so little about it. I see lot of people bringing only one quote to discussion "woman can't survive trial of grasses" - it's true, but Ciri is not an ordinary woman, she is an interdimensional anomaly capable od destroying worlds! So if they figure out convincible process and most importantly - WHY would she become a witcher - then i'm going to buy it. There is also a fuss what Witcher would she be since she is not that strong. We literally saw promise of her capabilities in the trailer. She will be a struggling one. She will struggle physically in fights with monsters, utilizing her cunning and making use of now controlled magical abilities, which should be superior to witchers, since they are not only sign, but real magic. We saw her DRAWING (dunno if thats the correct translation used in English version of the book) energy from water as any mage would do! Oh, wait, but she had that bloodlust in her eyes and probably killed all villagers at the end, like true independent, unaccountable GIRLPOWER! FFS, do you even know what a folk and other people did to her in the books? She could become ruthless as she was trained while being in Rats, but the Geralt, Yen and Dandelion was preventing this successfully, while she was searching her identity in W3, but did they succeed? We don't know. While we are talking about Rats - i won't be surprised if she get some gay relation in the game... because she already was in one in the books with Rats girl. She would be a perfect target for DEI agenda, but there is one problem with that - she is already a pinnacle of (good) DEI agenda! So if there is any DEI agency involved in that game, we will discover it quickly by downgrade of her character. The only bad vibe i get from materials published so far was a CDRP statement that they want to attract "new audience" - we all know what that means in DEI dictionary and i'm afraid it means non existing "modern audience", but it also can translated in corpo-language to "we became greedy, or we need to grow, because its what our investors would like us to do". Now take a look on the money. So far only fans were vocal about the game other large base audience are normies. They mostly buy games with their eyes, game premise and doesn't care much about lore. Imagine they are going to buy game with title Witcher 4 and instead playing with real witcher - using sword, potions and magic they are presented with girl that can slash through ANY enemy like a butter (due to space-time ripping Ciri learned in W3) without use of magic or alchemy. They would feel betrayed and would ditch the game. It would not be profitable at all for CDPR to make Ciri completely lore or even only W3 lore accurate. It was not a Concord or Failguard trailer where you could draw conclusions at the spot, so all we are going to do is: We will wait. We will see. We are going to buy the game or not. Fingers crossed for a good game.

You missed the point. It's not that people don't wana play the game because she is ugly. The fact is that the uglyfication of a female character is one of the pillars of wokenism, so people don't want to play a game that clearer went heavy woke. The fact that she got ugly is only a red flag.
Ciri looks fine lookswise. But her looks or playing Ciri is not my problem I have with the trailer. To be fair, I was hoping for a game, where we can make our own Witcher. And one set not in the present period of the Witcher world, but sometime in the past, so we don't get a definitive/canon version of the Witcher 3's storyline. Which is of course the implication of happening when Ciri is out witchering. My question is: Why does Ciri have to be a witcher? With a witcher's power set, to be more precise. Ciri has her own distinct powers and she was trained in magic. Sure, she can have the signs since that is just normal, simple magic taught to witchers. Although Ciri was too powerful in the past to water down the signs and almost burned a forest when trying to learn Ignii. But to be fair the magic shown does not exactly manifest like witcher signs. And Ciri did get some magic training throughout her childhood from various sources. So maybe she has her power levels under control now. So I am guessing that is her own magic at work. If Ciri keeps her powers and expands on them, I will take back much of that criticism. But the cat eyes? If she went through witcher mutations that clashes strongly with Witcher 3, in which Geralt and the others kept bringing up how horrific the trial of grasses is. And one of the big things established about the mutations is that they don't work on girls. And I can't remember if it is Triss or Yen in the books, who is horrified at the thought of what the Witcher trials would do to a female body. And if they helped Ciri go through this, it kind of goes back on a lot of stuff established in The Witcher 3 and the books. So my question is, since the witchers and sorcerersses all hate the trial of grasses, did they experiments on more children to make it safe for Ciri. And if the excuse is something cheap like, "Ciri has Elder Blood!", I would find that extremely lame. Ok. Now lets assume for a moment the cat eyes are an extension of her own powers. Some spell she knows. Why do they have to look like a witcher's eyes. If we aren't playing Geralt, or getting the chance to play our own witcher, I would prefer if Ciri was more of a distinct thing from a witcher. Does it make sense she emulates her Grandpa and Dad (Vesemir and Geralt), yes. But why not build her witcher stuff around her own powers. She should be just as capable at hunting monsters using and applying her magic and space/time powers. Even more so.

The answer is simple: CD Project has to continue their Witcher IP and can't really make a Witcher game without the witchering and all that. People expect them to stick to an established gameplay formula, so they either bring back Geralt (stale + retcons), create a new witcher MC (highly risky) or go with Ciri, an established and logical successor, albeit with a few retcons. Lesser evil yadda yadda

However 1- there’s this thing called pattern recognition: and my senses are kicking me in the head after the trailer on:DEI. #2: I got the ciri becoming a Witcher ending so I’m good with this. #3 elves (full blooded like Avlak live hundreds of years; ciri is at least half elf so she ages at minimum half what a human ages. Thus they gave her the DEI up age. #4 CDPR has gone on record to say they are all on board the DEI train. Synopsis: I love the Witcher series but I don’t have faith that CDPR will carry it through. Because, if you want the most accurate visualization of Ciri from W3 it is the young one. The older one is almost unanimously considered to be too glowed up by people that knew The Witcher and Ciri before games
I can underestand the pain that Intergalactic cause, but that talking about changing voice and face of Ciri is really weak. They saw a trailer. Geralt in trailers also looked different. And voice is good, more fitting for character than sweet, warm etc. I just want Ciri to be Ciri by character. So no girl-boss all the time but human following heart and always choosing the lesser evil if possible. In terms of her being Witcher, author Sapkowski said that Ciri passing Trail of the Grasses do not breaks the lore because it was never said she couldn't do it. And remember Ciri went to Wild Hunt dimension at the end of Witcher 3. She could also changed there or even find the formula for the Trial. If not there, maybe at newly found Lynx school (medallion stuff). So many possibiliteis and only one explanation on some mouths.
I agree with you on most of the stuff you said... just have one thing to point out... that technically Ciri being lesbian (or bisexual) wouldn't be lore breaking considering the events from books... although I think it would also make sense (or even more sense than any other) for her to be even asexual (not necessarily aromantic tho) as her encounters with s*x were all traumatic so it would makes sense if she would avoid physical contact like that.

I have read 2 times all the books in the original language, I have played all the games many times. I am a fanatic of this world. This is my favorite fictional universe. And I will tell you with 99% certainty that the W4 trailer is 100% compatible with the lore. Not 100% if we count solo game Gwent as canon. But who treats Gwent as canon? But even if we include Gwent in the canon, we can still explain some events. If anyone disagrees, please provide theses along with specific sources to confirm them.

That is why Ciri is the main character, she was one of the main characters in the books and in the third game, so she is the logical protagonist (Plus from financial point of view it is logical to, because people already familiar with her and she is step daughter of Geralt previous protagonist). She never used her Elder Blood powers in the trailer so for one reason or another she probably lost it. And I can say for sure no where, not in the games nor in the books it said that girls cannot become witchers. Plus who said we won’t travel to new locations as Ciri in the new game? As for why she's not using her Elder blood powers (I guess you're referring to teleportation), your guess is as good as anybody's at this point. Nobody knows anything about the story of TW4, nor between TW3 and 4. You'll have to wait for answers if she can, and if she can't, why? A good guess would be she tried to go against her fate, as the Bauk said in the trailer.

Ciri does look worse imo, i wouldn't say ugly, far from it. She shouldn't be able to be a Witcher based on what I personally know and read of the series. I agree completely. I'm also keeping in mind that the people writing the game are the same people that wrote the beautiful Cyberpunk 2077 and the dlc. So I'm cautiously optimistic.
To be fair, though, Veilguard showed a lot more of its tone and story from the getgo, teasers over the last few years excluded. It's different with Witcher 4. We know nothing about the story or how Ciri is going to be like. Her model may not even be final.

It feels to me like people saw all the DEI narrative at CDPR and decided what they were going to see in that trailer. It seemed weird to me at first that she looks completely different, but now Paulse points out how much she looks like Ciri as a kid, it's clear it's the 20 something year old Ciri in Witcher 3 that was wrong. This Witcher 4 version of Ciri is actually the correct one. But the comments about her being ugly or manly? I am sorry I thought Ciri in Witcher 3 looked like a waify teenage male metalhead, whereas in 4 she looks like a bold, confident, strong and frankly gorgeous woman who looks like she knows how to handle a sword. She was was more interesting in that trailer than she was in the whole of the Witcher 3. Also what I think a lot of people are missing is that most people don't care whether it's "woke" or not.... they care whether the writing is good or not. "woke" games aren't failing because they are "woke" they are failing because they are garbage. I think this game will be somewhat "woke" but it will be highly successful because it will be an absolute banger. And 99% of the people who though they had a problem with "woke" will realise they just had a problem with crap content.
A lot of people saw that CDPR was leaning into the DEI hiring and stuff earlier this year so that's probably why they tend to view everything with a jaded lens regarding them. They're expecting CDPR to show more signs of DEI corruption. This is going to have them jumping at shadows. My thoughts on the trailer was that it looked great. Ciri becoming a witcher was the fan favorite ending and they delivered us a sequel that follows up on it. I understand that there have been no female witchers before, but Ciri is unique in her heritage and not a normal human like everyone else so there's room to play around with idea of that making her able to survive the process. The side quests with Avallach lean into this idea as well. In regards to her looks, there's lots of explanations for the slightly different appearance. I think it's just the new engine/lighting and the way her face is morphing while making expressions. When she's at rest it looks just like an older version of Ciri. I think it's a nice blend of her innate good looks and the grizzled veteran vibe, which is what they were going for. We dont know how old she is supposed to be in this either, so that could be playing a factor. We also dont know what physical effects the process had on her either. Hell, we dont even know if she went through the traditional method of witcher creation yet, the Trial of the Grasses. So yeah, I think everyone is jumping the gun on this one for sure. About the complaints of her moving "like a man", this is a non-issue that people arent painting in the correct context. Martial arts moves were predominately created by men, so naturally most martial movements are visually associated with being masculine. If you're doing/emulating the actions correctly as a woman, you're going to look like a man; it's just the nature of the art. The same way a man dancing ballet (which we generally associate with femenine movements) will look like a woman if they're doing the maneuvers correctly. It'd be a different issue if she was walking around grabbing at her junk for no reason, lol.
Honesty most of the people complaining about the W4 trailer probably do have their mind bent towards negativity. I looked at the past videos and content they made and for the most almost everything they post is negative. I looked back through months and month of content to find something positive they had to say. Im not saying someone has to pretend to like something but I do start to question why someone is interested in gaming when they seem to hate everything about it 🤷♂️

I have no problem with the idea of female Witchers existing My problem is that Ciri of all people was able to do it and decided to do it. Here's why: All of the sorcerers and alchemists that know how to do the trial of the grasses are dead. Yennifer learned a part of it from some notes they found to help Uma not enough to make a Witcher. Several of the mutagens and potions used to make Witchers require rare ingredients from monsters and plants that are either near extinction or even are just straight up extinct. Adults chances of surviving The Trial of The Grasses are even lower than the 70% chance of death We already had with teenagers. Ciri is in her early 20's at the end of Witcher 3. None of her friends, family, and mentors wanted her to undergo The Trial of The Grasses because They're risky and she was already unbelievably powerful without it. If They removed her elder blood powers and just made her a copy of Geralt They removed much of what made her character unique. She was cool to Me because she had none of the mutations and was still kicking as much ass as Geralt. I would've enjoyed a character creator more than playing Ciri stripped of her powers and just given mutations. I was surprised how much fun I had making custom Witcher themed characters using Geralt's fighting style on Soul Calibur 6. Her potential with her elder blood powers already exceeded any Witcher. So why would Ciri go through the trouble of: Collecting extremely rare materials, finding alchemists and sorcerers who know enough about the trials to do them or the elusive knowledge lost to time on how to do the trials, just to risk nearly certain death, disrespect the wishes of Geralt and Yennifer her mother and father figures, the immense amounts of pain and trauma witchers get from the trials, and being looked down on even more by the world for being a mutant just to get powers she doesn't need? From My point of view there's no redeeming this choice I don't see any non-lore breaking way to make this make sense. My worry is that They'll continue to make choices that ruin the worldbuilding.
I like how she looks. Her jaw and cheekbones are okay, I have similar features (woman). Her desing for this cinematic is powerful and memorable. I can understand issues with female protagonist in Intergalactic. She's very bland in my opinion. But Ciri is fine. I don't see a problem. Lol

On top of the existing trauma, stress and pain would probably take a toll on her.
I agree with everything you say, I enjoyed Endymion's content and point of views until his take on Witcher 4, she is not uglified, there was action and atmosphere in the trailer, and it was 6 minutes of 100+ hours of gameplay that will have a chance to explain the new lore, the lore ended BEFORE Witcher 1, the books ended and then CDPR takes over the lore from Witcher 1 which was over 17 years ago. 100% agree with your opening statment - I'm hearing criticism and think: am I crazy or blind because I don't see what they see. But I came across much larcher number of positive receptions - people are excited and happy. I watched people crying while watching the trailer. I liked trailer, liked how Ciri looks, hints about new fight mechanics and the music, frickin MUSIC! I'm looking forward to new promo material and getting ready for long wait for the game.
I think it's obvious that TW4 Ciri is intentionally less pretty than TW3 Ciri. Totally makes sense with her aging and having survived the trial of grasses (apparently), and it just works for the setting. I also don't think it's overdone. While witchers are social outcasts and not meant to be handsome, she still isn't hard to look at - and we haven't even seen her in-game face. There's nothing to complain about.

As an all things Witcher enthusiast I think you and most your viewers just don’t get it. Ciris story ended when Geralts did. Ciri is not a Witcher, she could never be a Witcher “but she’s half…” Elves have tried to take the Trial in the past and none lived. Zero. Third, in the books she refused to undergo the trial and took her own path. That’s literally why Ciri is the way she is. It’s noncanon, end of. This was a chance to make a prequel hundreds even thousands of years in the past to the time when Witchers were plenty and all the schools were open. Perhaps even have character creation. CDPR should’ve hired me if they just wanted a fanfic game, at least I’d make it canon. Ciris story is over and should’ve been retired.

Well...in the books Ciri was created and behave like a boy, the time she spent in kaer Morhen with other Witchers and training make her act like a boy, not even Triss despite the effort was able to make her behave like a lady, and... she spent a time with a gang called 'rats' and she had a girlfriend called Mistle in the book (Baptism of fire from 1996), remember her rose tattoo in her leg when she was in that sauna in skellige? Yes both Ciri and her lover made the same tattoo as a 'love pact'.
And that's the fun part, some people who played the games never read the books or simply forgot, despite the games ins't canon they use pratically every reference from the books, and canon or not it still a sequel from the books, and problably and most certainly, devs will use Ciri's bissexuality during the 'caliente' parts, and the same people who complained about her ''ugliness'' will complain about her sexual orientation crying and saying ''That's not my Ciri''

In this case it's simple. They've changed her skull structure to a less attractive one, which doesn't happen accidentally or via incompetence. The rest of the animation is so good that this can't be a mistake. Detroit Become Human had realistic beautiful women. When I noticed the white braid and knew it was Ciri under the hood I did feel a bit of worry over how she would appear like given the current state of western game development but I was so pleasently surprised. I've known this game since 2010, played Witcher 1 2 3 they even produced a game on Mobile Called Witcher Arena but was cancelled that one too is a good game on Android, and I must say after all those years the Witcher hasn't let me down it keeps getting better then part 3 came and it was a Masterpiece, sadly the ORIGINAL Core creator of the Witcher that built its foundation left CDPR. I Dont like the Trailer of this new part 4 the concept seems forced and generic and yes that new looks of Ciri really disappointed me. Been a fan of CDPR for 14 years now and after all that 7 years of waiting all I get is this lame trailer? Actually I wasn´t very happy that CIri plays the main role in Witcher 4, as I found her character very bland in Witcher 3. But the trailer surprised me, she looks more serious and real now. I like her older version.

I’m in agreement here I thought the trailer was fine. I’m cautiously optimistic about the game, just a little concerned how they will justify Ciri going through the trail of the grasses.

People who think in American culture terms have no idea what path did the concept of 'woke' take in Poland and don't know that we actually had the dei conversation 5 years before the West.

I have no problem with Ciri as a protagonist, all I want for her is not to walk with a bitter, pissed, bossy face all game long.I want CDPR to make Ciri acting as Ciri.She can be mean , bad Witcher when entering the fight or after drinking potions. That is all.
There are some lore and narrative traps the devs can fall into by making Ciri a fully mutated witcher, but there are inverviews where they say they've been preparing for this story for years now and besides the narrative team they have also a dedicated LORE team working on this game. They also say they're putting much care into making a game which is cohesive with established lore and that they don't want to make anything out of place regarding the witcher's world.
I think there's a pretty good chance that we will get a really well fleshed out character and a cool grounded story with this one. We'll see.
As to how she looks... It's adequate to what she has been through and what she has become. If someone is expecting that a mutated trained killer with a history of abuse, tragedy and physicall hardships will look like a model, then their parents should really take care and provide them with a game that is age-appropriate instead of one that is meant for adults.

I am with you here, this trailer was awesome. I saw it as we've gone a few years into the future, Ciri's been doing witcher things and leading a rough life with some scars to show for it -- meanwhile Geralt is off unicorning around with Yen (or Triss in my playthru, but I'm just a sucker for a redhead). The whole trailer to me felt thematically like a natural progression of the story told in 3. With the way media has gone lately I can understand the fear of a company sacrificing story at the altar of inclusivity, but this didn't trigger that worry in me at all.

Ciri was always a main character and focus of the story. That said, there are many questions to answer here (like the trailer hinting she went thru the trial of the grasses, why is she using elemental magic instead of her elder powers, etc...). To me though, this seems like a natural progression of the current story from 3 where the white frost/elder blood arch gets resolved, Gealt 'retires', Ciri getting the silver sword at the end, etc. If the argument is it should have shifted to someone like Eskel; I think that might work better as a different parallel story, but not so much as a continuation of the current story.
I'm cautiously optimistic here -- they've done a good job with the story historically, and this trailer hit a lot of the right beats for me to continue being optimistic.

My concern is how will the plot justify Ciri undergoing the Trial, why was it successful, considering how it's a precedent for an adult woman to do it? Does she have her formal powers, if yes - then why go for mutations, if not - how did she lose them. I really don't wanna see some lazy writing akin to "Dany kinda forgot about the Iron Fleet" just so they can force the outcome of Ciri mutating so she can use potions, concoctions, mutagens and signs for gameplay purposes. That should be a far bigger concern than her jawline imo.

The co founder, and most of the developers that made Witcher 3 have been chased off including the co founder. They started their own studio called Rebel Wolves. In fact the co founder was chased off with accusations of "bullying" which turned out to be lies. Its such typical woke behavior.
Ciri grew up to be fighter since her childhood, the whole intro sequence of the Witcher 3 is her training in Kaer Morhen.

for me, TW4 is a wait and see. With the trailer, the lighting and camera framed her face a bit odd but re watching it in other frames she looks fine. There are two factors to keep in mind. 1. Hair. Hair has a big impact on how a face looks. 2. Its a cinematic. so compared to ingame things can and will change (not to mention the new engine).
But what I am skeptical about is her transformation into a Witcher. Vesemir was the last known Witcher with the knowledge about the trails of the grass (we know of). Geralt, Yen, Triss etc. would never let Ciri do this procedure. The trails of the grass is a extreme high risk, like only 20% of boys survived, girls and adults (if there where any) never.
The common consensus amonst witchers that they hated to be witchers in the first place and they want the knowledge of the trials to be forever forgotten, so no one would ever need to endure what they have endured.
So it goes against so much we know of the World making Ciri a true Witcher, but again, its wait and see.
The only way I see to make it logical is that Ciri would otherwise die and the Trails are the only chance to save her.
Since she is the child of providence, making her a Witcher could be a way of nerfing her (considering her gameplay in TW3) and also the only female and adult to have a chance to survive it.

I have a preference for games where you can create your own protagonist. Having the choice to physically shape your own Ciri would have been fun.
She looks fine throughout the trailer, but her first reveal looks a little off….but what’s weird is it’s that ONE scene, everywhere else is fine. But her voice acting? Horrible. God awful. No conviction in her lines whatsoever. Redo every single one. Even with Geralt’s mutations, he had conviction in his words. Ciri sounded like she did a 1st take on the lines.

I started watching Endymion in like early 2022, For those 2 years i was mostly agreeing with all his takes, but with this one he got under my skin.
I'm a polish dude. I have spent some time also in Slovakia. I visited multiple folk museums. In Poland we have whole literature epoch dedicated to folk fascination and if i had to describe new look of a Ciri in a single world it would be - archetype. She looks exactly like most beautiful folk woman you could find there on photos, paintings etc. Endymion pointed out her supposed to be different bone structure. I literally watched trailer 10 times pausing multiple times, comparing with tons of my screenshots from W3 and i found... nothing. Nothing in difference.
She is just older, more hawk looking Slavic woman (she can either become a plump, but that's not an option for a witcher).
In terms of her becoming witcher - is it against the lore? Yes. Is it against the will of Geralt? Yes. Is there any plot hole that CDPR could lever to make Ciri a Witcher? YES and surprisingly Endymion even mentioned it in his video! Hen Ichaer leaves a lot of space for discussion and creativity since we know so little about it. I see lot of people bringing only one quote to discussion "woman can't survive trial of grasses" - it's true, but Ciri is not an ordinary woman, she is an interdimensional anomaly capable od destroying worlds! So if they figure out convincible process and most importantly - WHY would she become a witcher - then i'm going to buy it.
There is also a fuss what Witcher would she be since she is not that strong. We literally saw promise of her capabilities in the trailer. She will be a struggling one. She will struggle physically in fights with monsters, utilizing her cunning and making use of now controlled magical abilities, which should be superior to witchers, since they are not only sign, but real magic. We saw her DRAWING (dunno if thats the correct translation used in English version of the book) energy from water as any mage would do!
Oh, wait, but she had that bloodlust in her eyes and probably killed all villagers at the end, like true independent, unaccountable GIRLPOWER!
FFS, do you even know what a folk and other people did to her in the books? She could become ruthless as she was trained while being in Rats, but the Geralt, Yen and Dandelion was preventing this successfully, while she was searching her identity in W3, but did they succeed? We don't know.
While we are talking about Rats - i won't be surprised if she get some gay relation in the game... because she already was in one in the books with Rats girl.
She would be a perfect target for DEI agenda, but there is one problem with that - she is already a pinnacle of (good) DEI agenda!
So if there is any DEI agency involved in that game, we will discover it quickly by downgrade of her character.
The only bad vibe i get from materials published so far was a CDRP statement that they want to attract "new audience" - we all know what that means in DEI dictionary and i'm afraid it means non existing "modern audience", but it also can translated in corpo-language to "we became greedy, or we need to grow, because its what our investors would like us to do".
Now take a look on the money. So far only fans were vocal about the game other large base audience are normies. They mostly buy games with their eyes, game premise and doesn't care much about lore.
Imagine they are going to buy game with title Witcher 4 and instead playing with real witcher - using sword, potions and magic they are presented with girl that can slash through ANY enemy like a butter (due to space-time ripping Ciri learned in W3) without use of magic or alchemy. They would feel betrayed and would ditch the game. It would not be profitable at all for CDPR to make Ciri completely lore or even only W3 lore accurate.
It was not a Concord or Failguard trailer where you could draw conclusions at the spot, so all we are going to do is:
We will wait.
We will see.
We are going to buy the game or not.

Witcher 4 got an new actress and because of that Ciri looks different and in Witcher 3 they said and show that she will be the next protagonist.
Ciri looks fine lookswise. But her looks or playing Ciri is not my problem I have with the trailer. To be fair, I was hoping for a game, where we can make our own Witcher. And one set not in the present period of the Witcher world, but sometime in the past, so we don't get a definitive/canon version of the Witcher 3's storyline. Which is of course the implication of happening when Ciri is out witchering.
My question is: Why does Ciri have to be a witcher? With a witcher's power set, to be more precise.
Ciri has her own distinct powers and she was trained in magic. Sure, she can have the signs since that is just normal, simple magic taught to witchers. Although Ciri was too powerful in the past to water down the signs and almost burned a forest when trying to learn Ignii. But to be fair the magic shown does not exactly manifest like witcher signs. And Ciri did get some magic training throughout her childhood from various sources. So maybe she has her power levels under control now. So I am guessing that is her own magic at work. If Ciri keeps her powers and expands on them, I will take back much of that criticism.
But the cat eyes? If she went through witcher mutations that clashes strongly with Witcher 3, in which Geralt and the others kept bringing up how horrific the trial of grasses is. And one of the big things established about the mutations is that they don't work on girls. And I can't remember if it is Triss or Yen in the books, who is horrified at the thought of what the Witcher trials would do to a female body. And if they helped Ciri go through this, it kind of goes back on a lot of stuff established in The Witcher 3 and the books.
So my question is, since the witchers and sorcerersses all hate the trial of grasses, did they experiments on more children to make it safe for Ciri. And if the excuse is something cheap like, "Ciri has Elder Blood!", I would find that extremely lame.
Ok. Now lets assume for a moment the cat eyes are an extension of her own powers. Some spell she knows. Why do they have to look like a witcher's eyes. If we aren't playing Geralt, or getting the chance to play our own witcher, I would prefer if Ciri was more of a distinct thing from a witcher. Does it make sense she emulates her Grandpa and Dad (Vesemir and Geralt), yes. But why not build her witcher stuff around her own powers. She should be just as capable at hunting monsters using and applying her magic and space/time powers. Even more so.

The answer is simple: CD Project has to continue their Witcher IP and can't really make a Witcher game without the witchering and all that. People expect them to stick to an established gameplay formula, so they either bring back Geralt (stale + retcons), create a new witcher MC (highly risky) or go with Ciri, an established and logical successor, albeit with a few retcons.

Because, if you want the most accurate visualization of Ciri from W3 it is the young one. The older one is almost unanimously considered to be too glowed up by people that knew The Witcher and Ciri before games
I can underestand the pain that Intergalactic cause, but that talking about changing voice and face of Ciri is really weak. They saw a trailer. Geralt in trailers also looked different. And voice is good, more fitting for character than sweet, warm etc. I just want Ciri to be Ciri by character. So no girl-boss all the time but human following heart and always choosing the lesser evil if possible. In terms of her being Witcher, author Sapkowski said that Ciri passing Trail of the Grasses do not breaks the lore because it was never said she couldn't do it. And remember Ciri went to Wild Hunt dimension at the end of Witcher 3. She could also changed there or even find the formula for the Trial. If not there, maybe at newly found Lynx school (medallion stuff). So many possibiliteis and only one explanation on some mouths.
I agree with you on most of the stuff you said... just have one thing to point out... that technically Ciri being lesbian (or bisexual) wouldn't be lore breaking considering the events from books... although I think it would also make sense (or even more sense than any other) for her to be even asexual (not necessarily aromantic tho) as her encounters with s*x were all traumatic so it would makes sense if she would avoid physical contact like that.

I have read 2 times all the books in the original language, I have played all the games many times. I am a fanatic of this world. This is my favorite fictional universe. And I will tell you with 99% certainty that the W4 trailer is 100% compatible with the lore. Not 100% if we count solo game Gwent as canon. But who treats Gwent as canon? But even if we include Gwent in the canon, we can still explain some events. If anyone disagrees, please provide theses along with specific sources to confirm them.

That is why Ciri is the main character, she was one of the main characters in the books and in the third game, so she is the logical protagonist (Plus from financial point of view it is logical to, because people already familiar with her and she is step daughter of Geralt previous protagonist). She never used her Elder Blood powers in the trailer so for one reason or another she probably lost it. And I can say for sure no where, not in the games nor in the books it said that girls cannot become witchers. Plus who said we won’t travel to new locations as Ciri in the new game? Ciri does look worse imo, i wouldn't say ugly, far from it. She shouldn't be able to be a Witcher based on what I personally know and read of the series. It feels to me like people saw all the DEI narrative at CDPR and decided what they were going to see in that trailer.
It seemed weird to me at first that she looks completely different, but now Paulse points out how much she looks like Ciri as a kid, it's clear it's the 20 something year old Ciri in Witcher 3 that was wrong. This Witcher 4 version of Ciri is actually the correct one.
But the comments about her being ugly or manly? I am sorry I thought Ciri in Witcher 3 looked like a waify teenage male metalhead, whereas in 4 she looks like a bold, confident, strong and frankly gorgeous woman who looks like she knows how to handle a sword. She was was more interesting in that trailer than she was in the whole of the Witcher 3.
Also what I think a lot of people are missing is that most people don't care whether it's "woke" or not.... they care whether the writing is good or not. "woke" games aren't failing because they are "woke" they are failing because they are garbage.
I think this game will be somewhat "woke" but it will be highly successful because it will be an absolute banger. And 99% of the people who though they had a problem with "woke" will realise they just had a problem with crap content.
A lot of people saw that CDPR was leaning into the DEI hiring and stuff earlier this year so that's probably why they tend to view everything with a jaded lens regarding them. They're expecting CDPR to show more signs of DEI corruption. This is going to have them jumping at shadows.
My thoughts on the trailer was that it looked great. Ciri becoming a witcher was the fan favorite ending and they delivered us a sequel that follows up on it. I understand that there have been no female witchers before, but Ciri is unique in her heritage and not a normal human like everyone else so there's room to play around with idea of that making her able to survive the process. The side quests with Avallach lean into this idea as well.
In regards to her looks, there's lots of explanations for the slightly different appearance. I think it's just the new engine/lighting and the way her face is morphing while making expressions. When she's at rest it looks just like an older version of Ciri. I think it's a nice blend of her innate good looks and the grizzled veteran vibe, which is what they were going for. We dont know how old she is supposed to be in this either, so that could be playing a factor. We also dont know what physical effects the process had on her either. Hell, we dont even know if she went through the traditional method of witcher creation yet, the Trial of the Grasses. So yeah, I think everyone is jumping the gun on this one for sure.
About the complaints of her moving "like a man", this is a non-issue that people arent painting in the correct context. Martial arts moves were predominately created by men, so naturally most martial movements are visually associated with being masculine. If you're doing/emulating the actions correctly as a woman, you're going to look like a man; it's just the nature of the art. The same way a man dancing ballet (which we generally associate with femenine movements) will look like a woman if they're doing the maneuvers correctly. It'd be a different issue if she was walking around grabbing at her junk for no reason, lol.
Agreed especially on why her face might look different. It's literally an entirely different engine from the one used for Witcher 3.

I looked at the past videos and content they made and for the most almost everything they post is negative. I looked back through months and month of content to find something positive they had to say. What I don't like is that she did The Trial of The Grasses. I have no problem with the idea of female Witchers existing My problem is that Ciri of all people was able to do it and decided to do it. Here's why:
All of the sorcerers and alchemists that know how to do the trial of the grasses are dead. Yennifer learned a part of it from some notes they found to help Uma not enough to make a Witcher.
Several of the mutagens and potions used to make Witchers require rare ingredients from monsters and plants that are either near extinction or even are just straight up extinct.
Adults chances of surviving The Trial of The Grasses are even lower than the 70% chance of death We already had with teenagers. Ciri is in her early 20's at the end of Witcher 3.
None of her friends, family, and mentors wanted her to undergo The Trial of The Grasses because They're risky and she was already unbelievably powerful without it.
If They removed her elder blood powers and just made her a copy of Geralt They removed much of what made her character unique. She was cool to Me because she had none of the mutations and was still kicking as much ass as Geralt. I would've enjoyed a character creator more than playing Ciri stripped of her powers and just given mutations. I was surprised how much fun I had making custom Witcher themed characters using Geralt's fighting style on Soul Calibur 6.
Her potential with her elder blood powers already exceeded any Witcher.
So why would Ciri go through the trouble of: Collecting extremely rare materials, finding alchemists and sorcerers who know enough about the trials to do them or the elusive knowledge lost to time on how to do the trials, just to risk nearly certain death, disrespect the wishes of Geralt and Yennifer her mother and father figures, the immense amounts of pain and trauma witchers get from the trials, and being looked down on even more by the world for being a mutant just to get powers she doesn't need? From My point of view there's no redeeming this choice I don't see any non-lore breaking way to make this make sense. My worry is that They'll continue to make choices that ruin the worldbuilding.

@@PaulseTV Being a Witcher is no glamorous lifestyle and both the books and games reflect that, Geralt and other Witchers trudge through muddy swamps, smelly caves, marshes and other dirty environments all the time to which they often hated it. On top of the existing trauma, stress and pain would probably take a toll on her.

I agree with everything you say, I enjoyed Endymion's content and point of views until his take on Witcher 4, she is not uglified, there was action and atmosphere in the trailer, and it was 6 minutes of 100+ hours of gameplay that will have a chance to explain the new lore, the lore ended BEFORE Witcher 1, the books ended and then CDPR takes over the lore from Witcher 1 which was over 17 years ago.

100% agree with your opening statment - I'm hearing criticism and think: am I crazy or blind because I don't see what they see. But I came across much larcher number of positive receptions - people are excited and happy. I watched people crying while watching the trailer.

I think it's obvious that TW4 Ciri is intentionally less pretty than TW3 Ciri. Totally makes sense with her aging and having survived the trial of grasses (apparently), and it just works for the setting. I also don't think it's overdone. While witchers are social outcasts and not meant to be handsome, she still isn't hard to look at - and we haven't even seen her in-game face.

As an all things Witcher enthusiast I think you and most your viewers just don’t get it. Ciris story ended when Geralts did. Ciri is not a Witcher, she could never be a Witcher “but she’s half…” Elves have tried to take the Trial in the past and none lived. Zero. Third, in the books she refused to undergo the trial and took her own path. That’s literally why Ciri is the way she is. It’s noncanon, end of.
