  • This is a special one. This is a gift from Sword Friend Ian and a bit from Adam at Landsknect as well. It is a mix of the things I liked from the Gunther and Gustave blades. The blade is a Guther but the hilt is closer to the Gustave in proportion. It has the knucklebow of the Gustav and the CC2 pommel is a nice addition too. Adam did a bit of extra file work on the hilt to give it some extra zazz.

I couldn't choose between Gunter and Gustav. I didn't even think of combining both! I asked for antler on Gustav and CC2 pommel on Gunter. You put it all in one!!!

Such an awesome messer! Love the antler slabs and the extra filework. Well worth the extra 500 bucks!

The antler was an unexpected like for me. I did not realize that it would feel have some many pros. This one feels comfortable but secure. It also blends well with the overall look. Experiencing something new and liking it has been a treat.

    Great looking messer. Amazing gift!
But the base messer is 270 and the few added grooves 400... Seems a bit much. I guess there was more attention to detail elsewhere but still.

I understand that more than 2x the cost for some extra detail seems crazy but I don't think so. $400 for that kind of work is very reasonable, $270 for the base model is just a really amazing price.

Hi there, Adam here. I can understand why it might seem strange, but our pricing is based on time spent. Assembling/filing/finetuning on this took about four times more than on a "normal" Günther with a cc2 pommel. Also, that 400 wasn't paid by anybody - putting in that work was my gift to Matthew to honour Ian's gesture. It's not an option available for order normally, because as you pointed it out, it's very much in diminishing returns territory for many.

@@adambodorics2903 Thanks for clearing that up. Great gift from you also! And as I said earlier great looking messer. 👍
Edit. I actually just realised that the pommel was completely different from the normal cc2. I get it would take hours and hours to do that.

Thank you Ian! Your gift is appreciated. Though this is a little more than a simple sword. Taking the time to understand the features I enjoy in two different swords and working with Adam to combine and improve them is really a special kind of generosity. I really think this is a special piece and I hope Landsknect Emporium makes more!

Stunning weapon, I love my Landsknecht Emporium Falke Kriegsmesser to bits and maybe it would be a good idea to go a bit spiffy...hmm..
I really love the antler handle scales, they just add so much to this.
And what a gesture from Ian!🤘
    Best regards

Sometimes you can see a kind of short Messer still worn in Germany. During huntsmens ceremonies, some elderly tradition keeping huntsmen still carry a ,Hirschfänger' as unsharpened ceremonial weapon.

That's really cool man. Landsknetch is definitely killing it. I am getting a little worried about that injury though dude its been awhile now. Sometimes playing through the pain isn't a good idea man just saying maybe take it easy for a while or go to a doctor or something you never know man I don't wanna jinx it but it could be more serious than you think. A lot of the time you just kinda get used to the pain or you're pain tolerance is high to begin with. I broke my ribs one time and I didn't really consider it painful but my girlfriend insisted I go in and yup i had 2 broken ribs. I love your videos and I wanna keep enjoying them for years to come. And I'm sure you don't want to be unable to wield. Even the mightiest warriors need to recoup sometimes. Like I said most people consider broken ribs extremely painful the doctors were like "it doesn't really hurt you have 2 broken ribs wtf!?!" Just because you can wince and carry on doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Good point about taking it easy. Might be a good time to switch to left hand, at least until things are sorted out. Seeing the look of pain during some of the cuts was disconcerting.
Also, very nice gift from Swordfriend Ian. Well-deserved.

This one leans into what they do well and it is a great showcase. Complex fullering, sturdy but not overbuilt, strong sense of how a sword should handle. It still has imperfections but my eye does not gravitate to them as much.

Compared to my off the shelf günther the grinding on this one seems to be more precise making for a better defined fuller. I have a Kriegsmesser/Hand and a Half messer made by Adam and the finish while still being rough is better than on the mentioned günther. Looks like theyy put a little bit more care in their customs.

Hey Matt, would you consider using a Landsknecht Emporium messer for destructive testing sometime in the future? Obviously not this one lol, but I'm just curious as to how durable their steel is against wood and other steels. Those Ronin Katana Euro destruction tests really left an impression on me I have to admit. Almost like the sword community equivalent to JOEX here on TH-cam for knives.

I would be happy to do that but I don't get the vibe they have enough of them to send me one to break.
