This has to be be one of the best love songs of all times, music and words are so haunting and meaningful, best arrangement of this song I have ever heard.
When they begin the beguine It brings back the sound of music so tender, It brings back a night of tropical splendor, It brings back a memory ever green. I'm with you once more under the stars, And down by the shore an orchestra's playing And even the palms seem to be swaying When they begin the beguine. To live it again is past all endeavor, Except when that tune clutches my heart, And there we are, swearing to love forever, And promising never, never to part. What moments divine, what rapture serene, Till clouds came along to disperse the joys we had tasted, And now when I hear people curse the chance that was wasted, I know but too well what they mean; So don't let them begin the beguine Let the love that was once a fire remain an ember; Let it sleep like the dead desire I only remember When they begin the beguine. Oh yes, let them begin the beguine, make them play Till the stars that were there before return above you, Till you whisper to me once more, Darling, I love you! And we suddenly know What heaven we're in, When they begin the beguine
rejectomorph Actually this is the original version - i heard from a friend of mine close the the Cole Porter Estate it was a printing error that made it a major key and it became popular in the major key, and it was too late to do anything about it.
Every other performance of this song plays it hot, and this is the ultimate song of regret and longing. Sheryl Crow has captured it perfectly. And I can't believe no one before her really listened to the lyrics before arranging it. It's hers now, AFAIAC.
This song and rendition by Sheryl Crowe is filled with such passion and beauty it takes my breath away . Two daughters'' weddings and at each this song brought my joy to new heights.
Beautiful and haunting. Crowe has laid down a definitive version of this classic. No mean feat because her predecessors were singers like Sinatra and Ella. Good stuff.
You really have to actually know how to sing, to sing this and quiet a few other Cole Porter songs. It’s not enough to have a beautiful voice, you also have to have breath control and the ability to draw out a note, raise or lower just half a note ect! Wonderful song beautifully sung!
I understand why they changed the song to fit the script at that point, but I don't like the version..........though it grows on me, withing the context of the moment. Listen to Johnny Mathis's version. FUN !!!
Possibly the best rendition of this song (and I’ve listened to all of them). The minor key finally expresses the melancholy meaning of the lyrics. And Sheryl’s vocal interpretation evokes the meaning perfectly. Andy Williams version is the only other one that comes close.
It is purposely being sung in a minor key with a bossa nova beat -- not what we are used to hearing (Artie Shaw's arrangement), but much closer to composer Cole Porter's original. Do some homework before criticizing.
So beautiful, so haunting, it touches one’s heart so deeply.
Best version of this song EVER.
Sheryl nails this. Beautiful and haunting PLUS a great arrangement. WOW.
This has to be be one of the best love songs of all times, music and words are so haunting and meaningful, best arrangement of this song I have ever heard.
Just fantastic. One of the best versions. Sheryl Crow is magnificent. Passionate.the beat is so sexy. Love it.

The minor key arrangement makes this the most haunting rendition of this song I've ever heard. I think Porter would have loved it.
rejectomorph I looooove it !!!
Agreed

@@DennisCrowMusic -- That's fascinating to know! I had never heard that before. Perhaps the musical arranger for this movie knew that story.

The genius of Cole Porter, the voice of Sheryl Crow. Pure Magic. 🤗❤

Best rendition of this song out of the scores I have heard.
Best performance of this song. The slow pace translates the tenderness perfectly.
Bewitching. The best of any recording of this song.
I love this .This reminds me of a romantic night under the stars dancing on a cruise ship...💝
This song and rendition by Sheryl Crowe is filled with such passion and beauty it takes my breath away .

Nunca antes habìa hecho un mal comentario pero esta señora ha destrozado mi mi mùsica favorita
No one will ever beat Ella Fitzgerald's rendition of any song including this one!
Ella is great all the time, this rendition is just exceptional !
Love triumphs in the end and the couple's joy is never-ending. The morbid tone of this recording is completely wrong.
Guess you haven't seen the film...
I understand why they changed the song to fit the script at that point, but I don't like the version..........though it grows on me, withing the context of the moment. Listen to Johnny Mathis's version. FUN !!!
Possibly the worst rendition of many versions of this song.

Agree to Disagree, beautiful Interpretation of Cole Porter 💕
absolutely out of tune - almost irrecognizable - nightmarish
Are you nuts???

Go have your ears checked!
Are you tone deaf ??
