      Fantastic stuff . It can be heart wrenching when you only have enough paint for the job and can't waste or make any mistakes 👍

    Hi and thanks for a clear and direct explanation on this difficult subject of met silver.
    I have the exact same job to do, same paint code (have had the fuel lid matched) on a vw Lupo bonnet.
    I have been advised that a mid grey primer colour will be fine.
    Would you agree? Others have advised black or dark grey.
    Many thanks, hope you can help.

      We would always suggest checking our color software to see what is recommended regarding an undercoat color. Having looked I can see that FC2 is indicated which is grey or light grey filler.

    What tip do you use for a metallic base and a high solids glamour clear I have a 1.7, 1.3, and 1.4 tip lvlp spray gun. And a 1.8 hvlp still I think I use a small air compressor about 26 gallon 5 hp about 5.4-5.6 cfm. I have the Rongpeng professional spray gun that what will be using now.

      Hi, we are afraid we are not familiar with the equipment you mention but for your information our technician used a 1.2 for waterborne basecoats and depending on this type and viscosity of the clearcoat, he used either a 1.2 or 1.3 set up in a compliant spraygun.

    You said if your last coat is already flashed off, then it is to late for a control coat. But what happens if you do put a control coat on a already flashed coat?

    • @StandoxOnline
      @StandoxOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your question. Applying a control coat over a dried/flashed off surface will cause a cange in colour and effect pigment laydown, creating a coarser efect. It may also lead to die back of the clear coat due to an increase in surface roughness.

    I do have a question why not do the whole hood instead of one half at a time ?

    • @StandoxOnline
      @StandoxOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking this question. By following this process you will be able to master the application also under more sever climate condition, e.g. higher temperature or low humidity. If spraying the whole bonnet at once and depending on the size of the object and local climate conditions it can be that your first coat might start to flash off before you finish your effect coat.

    Wish my shop had panels coming to me in that good of condition. I'm constantly fighting 320 scratches when painting metallics. Of course it's my problem if they show through so I either have to use more paint or waste time priming and sanding doing the panel beaters jobs for them.

      Sorry to hear that, good preparation akes all the difference to the final job and the amount of effort involved. Good luck.
