Matt Conaway - The Adventure Begins! (Command) Grade 2.5

The opening syncopated ostinato sets the stage for the uplifting character of this work. A floating melody set against big open chords and syncopated 8th note figures with light percussion gives this work a soaring feel with a hint of western sound, before it gradually fades away. A wonderful choice as an optional contest piece, The Adventure Begins is perfect for developing articulation and 8th note rhythm reading.

I played this years ago during a concert. I forgot about it, but the song always kept coming back up in my head unconsciously. I tried to figure out what it was, but no luck. years later, an upperclassmen said to his friends "remember this song?" and started to play this song. I asked him what it was, he told me the name of the song. After that, I spend a good 15 minutes trying to find it somewhere. I am so happy I was able to hear it again after all this time. Thank you.

This was the first piece we learned for 8th grade band, the last year of middle school. And we never were able to play due to Covid, so our band played this piece for our teacher by emailing soundbites lol. It was really sad though 😢
